Chapter 2

“You will just work as a secretary, not on the farm,” Alena reminded Elissa. Elissa shared with Alena, about the job she found in Cariaga. She was worried about bumping into her ex-husband. What if the man was still working on the farm? “You’re right,” Elissa agreed to Alena. The man must be married now to the woman she saw. And maybe her ex-husband was already rich. Judging by the woman, she must be loaded. That’s what Elissa was thinking. “And maybe he’s not there anymore,” Elissa said. Alena nodded. “Just try applying for that job, it could be a great help for Katarina’s future,” Alena advised her. The next day Elissa traveled, going to Cariaga. The trip would take three hours to reach Cariaga Province. If Elissa was lucky to get the job, she'd have to moved back to Cariaga. Her salary would be enough to get Katarina a nanny. While on the way, Elissa was already praying that she could get the job. Upon arriving in the Cariaga Province, Elissa went straight to the SBN farm. The largest farm in Cariaga, own by the family of Sebaniez, the richest family in that province, and in the country. Elissa reached the huge gate of the farm. Memories flashed through her mind. That was the farm where her ex-husband, Alejandro, used to work or was still working. She didn’t know. She had never heard anything about the man after their divorce. “Are you one of the applicants?” A male guard asked Elissa. Elissa nodded. “Yes, I have an interview scheduled today,” she answered the guard. The guard opened the smaller gate, to let Elissa entered. Elissa entered, and the guard gave her the directions to go to the office where the interview would take place. She would just follow the small pathway made for the office employees. Elissa walked along the pathway, and reached the front of a two-storey building. That was the SBN farm office. As she entered the front door, a long line of female applicants welcomed her. That didn’t surprise her, the salary was eye-catching, so she expected that a lot of people would be interested in applying. But what Elissa didn’t know was, the applicants were more into the man behind the SBN farm. The boss on that farm. Elissa waited for two hours until her name was called. “Elissa Castillo?” The woman assisting the applicants called her name. She immediately stood up upon hearing her name. She caressed the back of her skirt, just in case there was a fold because of the long time she was sitting. “That’s me,” Elissa said and walked towards the woman. “You can go inside,” the woman said. Elissa twisted the knob, and pushed the door. She went in, and closed the door again. She walked towards the man who was now scanning the paper on his table. Probably, her resume, she felt a bit nervous. The man was wearing glasses and looking down. That’s why Elissa couldn’t see his face. Elissa went near to the man’s table, and waited for him to say that she could sit down. “You may sit down,” the man said. The man’s voice was a mix of cold and authoritative. But somehow, that voice was familiar to Elissa. The woman was trying to take a glimpse of the man’s face, when he suddenly looked at her. Elissa’s eyes grew wider as he recognized the man. Alejandro was tired of interviewing every woman applicant. He wanted to stop the interview as he couldn’t find one that was suitable for the job. All of them just wanted to get close to him. He knows that. The body language of every woman he interviewed says it all. He loves playing with a woman, but he does not want to do that at work. He was about to tell Sari, one of his employee to stop the interview when the resume of the next applicant caught his attention. Elissa Castillo The name of his ex-wife was on the resume. He starred at the paper for a few minutes, making sure that he was not dreaming. The pain and anger within his heart had awakened. The woman who left him years ago was applying to be his secretary. Does she know that it’s me? Alejandro thought. Maybe the woman had discovered that he was rich, and she was approaching him to seduce him. Maybe the woman wanted him back because of his money. Those were the thoughts that were running through his mind. A gold digger, huh? He called Sari to call the next applicant. He heard the door knob twist. He pretended to be busy reading the resume, but the truth was his heart was beating so loud. Maybe because of anger. That’s what he thought. “You may sit down,” he said when he noticed that Elissa was still standing. The woman sat down. He could feel her gaze, she was trying to take a peek at his face. A lot had changed about him, and maybe the woman wanted to see how handsome he was now. He raised his face and looked at her. He saw how the woman was shocked. Her eyes went wide upon seeing him, upon recognizing him. He smirked, arrogantly. “It’s been a long time, Elissa,” Alejandro said. “A-Alejandro?” Elissa stuttered as he called the man’s name. She couldn’t believe that she was seeing her ex-husband right now. And that he was sitting in front of her. It’s been five long years since the last time she saw him. The man was poor back then, but look at him now. He looked so successful and rich. Elissa immediately wanted to leave the room, she wanted to run away, but her feet betrayed her. They couldn’t move. She was there looking at him, her mouth was a bit open, and her eyes were widened. While on the other hand, the man was smirking at him, acting so proud. “You probably missed me, right?” Alejandro said. Those words awakened Elissa. This bastard! If she only knew that he would be her boss, she would not dare to apply as a secretary, never! “In your dreams!” Elissa said, and stood up. “I didn’t know that it was you! If I only knew, I wouldn’t step my foot in this place!” Elissa said angrily. She marched towards the door and was ready to leave, when Alejandro spoke. “You’re hired.”
