Prolog - Two Hearts, Two Destinies
Harold
Prince Harold and Jassmena alone in the woods, the sun light danced all around them as they kissed passionately. Her long wildly curly black hair flowing all around her, her brown eyes filled with desire. Their bodies calling for each other, burning from the inside. He had just come of age to marry.
“I am going to make you my wife.” He promised her, he wanted her so badly. They had been seeing each other for over a year and their relationship had been building to this. He pulled her dress up above her waist and she let him in between her legs. It was both their first time and passion does what it is so good at, tempting people. “I cannot wait have you.” He did not see her as some peasant he could just take advantage of. He honestly loved her at that moment. Her beauty easily surpassed any princess he had ever met.
“Then take me.” She wanted nothing more than him. She never cared about his status as prince, they were destined to be together. She felt him enter her and she caught her breath and pain melted into passionate pleasure. He was hers forever more. They spent the afternoon together, making love and making plans for the future. “I must go, I am going to tell my parents that we are to be married.” He kissed her passionately good-bye.
On his way through the streets of the market that day a scent danced into his nose. Lush lilac and apple blossoms, his eyes dilated. He could not stop himself. He followed the scent like an animal. His blue eyes turning bright hazel as he entered the blacksmiths home. Surprised to see a very tall, large man but the scent was so heavy it was unmistakable that this was the place. The place is where his mate lives.
“Who is it Daddy?” A small but musical voice said. It rang in his ears, so pure and sweet. Then he saw her peak out from behind her father, she knew she was looking at her mate. Their eyes locked and she dropped the bowl she was holding. He could barely control himself standing in the front door.
“Mine.” Came out of his clenched mouth.
To her he smelled of the ocean, salty and sharp. She also smelled another mingled with his. Her wolf howling inside her, she stepped forward and looked him in the eye putting her hands on her hips she tilted her head to the side, her golden brown hair whisps clinging to her dirty sweaty face. “Mine, and no other ever again.”
She was full of sparks and he suddenly the feeling of guilt for being with another swirled in his stomach. His wolf had told him, told him how meeting his mate would be and to be patient. He suddenly could not even remember her name. She had never meant anything to him compared to this. He reached out and took her hand and went down on one knee. “Never, I promise. I only see you. My mate.”
“Please come with me. I cannot be without you.” He held on to her hand and she smiled shyly and walked out of the house with him, glancing back at her father who just smiled at her. He knew this day was coming soon, his heart ached a bit but she would be cared for he was sure of it.
She had no idea he was the prince, she had no idea what she was in for. They took her, scrubbed her raw almost, dressed her in some fancy suffocating dress and presented her to the King and Queen. They were to be married the next day in front of the whole kingdom with fan fare and lots of food.
Deep in the woods
Jassmena took her time walking back to her cottage with a smile on her face, thinking of the day she had had with Harold and how much she loved him. She placed her hand on her stomach and thought that she could already be carrying his child. She was going to have to tell her mother right away. It had always just been them, she did not know anything about her father. She secretly hoped that she would move to the castle with her. It was almost dusk when she reached her cottage. She had her herbs and flowers she picked for drying. As the sun set she heard her mother make her way in the cottage, carrying an entire bag full of food from the market.
“Mother, let me help you.” Jassmena reached for her bag. They were mirror images of each other. Black curly hair, dark brown eyes with fair skin and freckles.
“Yes, girly.” She smiled at her.
As they put away all the items. Jassmena was quiet, wondering how to say what she needed to say. Then she decided to say it.
“Mother, I am getting married.”
“What, to whom?” She was surprised. She did not even know her daughter knew a boy.
“Prince Harold. We have been meeting in the woods outside of the market for 1 summer now. He proposed today. He is telling his parents tonight. I so hope you will move to the castle with me.”
She could see the excitement in her daughter’s eyes. She only wanted her daughter to be happy. “If they will allow me, I will come with you.”
The next day……
The kingdom was buzzing with excitement with the young prince’s nuptials later that day. Jassmena and her mother made their way to the market to meet Harold as promised. Jassmena was full of excitement and could not stop smiling. As they made their way through the market they could tell something was different. Lots of people were in a hurry.
“What is all the hurry?” She asked a passer-by.
“Oh, Prince Harold, is getting married today. She’s one of us you know.”
Super excited, Jassmena did not want to hold anything up and she rushed the door of the castle.
The guard stopped her from entering “What is your business here?”
“I am to marry the prince today.” She curtseyed.
The guard nodded to the other guard and let her and her mother pass.
Inside the walls of the castle everything was a buzz and then she saw Harold.
“Harold, Harold.” She called out for him, waving, and he turned and saw her, he promptly turned away and disappeared into the a door.
An older man came out of the door and quickly took her by arm and began dragging her back to the entrance. “You are not allowed here. The prince is to marry his mate today, and that is not you. He asked to have you removed from the castle.”
“Wait, I am the one he wants to marry. It is I that he lay with just yesterday.” Tears began to fall from her eyes as the pinching in her elbow became even stronger.
He pushed her to the ground outside the gate. “Do not come back here, the Prince found his mate and that is enough.” The guards who initially let her in blocked the doorway and were sort of laughing at her.
Her mother wrapped her in her arms and helped her to her feet, she looked over her shoulder, anger swelling in her heart.
She was silent all the way home, tears flowing down her cheeks from her broken heart. The pain of the betrayal from him burned so deep, she went to her bed and did not come out for a week. Her mother tried all the potions she knew to help her but nothing could help her.
I was almost a month after Harold and Iris were married that Jassmena stood on the edge of the cliff, her hand on her stomach knowing she was carrying his child. She couldn’t be a single mother, not after what she had seen her own mother endure. “Jassmena!” She heard her mother’s desperate screams behind her and her running foot steps. “No, my love. STOP!” Her fingertips just barely brushed the hem of her skirt as she jumped over the cliff. She watched as her daughter’s body hit the cliff wall time and time again and landing lifeless at the bottom of the cliff. She felt her soul die with her daughter as she took in the sight; she would relive everyday for the rest of her life.
She made her way quickly to the bottom of the cliff and found her daughter; bloody and lifeless still clenching her stomach and then she knew, she knew her daughter carried his child. An indescribable scream made its way out of her body, in the empty place her daughter’s life had lived now filled with anger and rage. “I swear on my life that your life will be meaningless and void. That I will do all that I can to ensure, starting with the princess.”
A blackness took over her heart, rage and the need for revenge consumed her as her daughter’s lifeless body hung in her arms, her blood stained her cloths. She vowed to the Gods above that Harold would pay for what he had done to her daughter, he would pay with his happiness. She cursed him right there that he would never be allowed to have children, not while she was alive.
