Adella woke up not being able to see anything. She blinked her eyes several times hoping her eyes would adjust, but she could only make out a fire in the center of room not too far away from her. She saw a figure sitting at a table just past the fire. She could make out his wide shoulders from the light that danced off him from the fire. She shifted her weight and his head turned around looking at her.
His eyes bore into hers and her heart began to beat in her chest so loud she was sure he would hear it. Was she excited? Afraid? She wasn’t sure. She only knew she could not pull her eyes away from his.
“Hello.” He said simply even tho he was feeling a million different feelings.
She smiled at him, she suddenly felt very shy and she started to blush and looked away “Hello. Where am I, might I inquire?” She likes hearing the sound of his voice.
“In my home. I saved you from the s*******r the men that had you.” She slightly remembered something happening outside her tent. She thought it was the men from the night before.
“Oh.” She closed her eyes and started to pray for Tatius, he was kind to her. “Why did you take me?”
“Because you are my mate and I protect my mate.” His voice sounded gruff this time, almost scary.
“Mate? What does that mean?” He got up and walked the short distance over to her, doing his best to contain his wolf. He kneeled on the ground next to where she lay.
Adella felt breathless with him so close.
“Let us start again.” He smiled “I am Baron. Your name is?”
“Adella.” She said in a whisper.
“Adella, that is almost as beautiful as you are.” He paused looking at her not really sure what to say next. “Are you hungry? I made some stew.”
“It does smell good.” She sat up, her long hair falling around her shoulders. She saw his hands were shaking as he reached for a bowl for her. “Thank you.” She said and took it from him. It was delicious to her. He still had not said anything more to her. “So what happens now? Are you to take me to the Emperor?”
“No! We are going the opposite way.” His voice was back to being gruff and deep, she even thought his eyes changed to black. She shied away from him instantly.
“I….I” She didn’t feel afraid, she felt something totally different. He closed the space between them and soon his hot breath was in her ear. It made her quiver inside.
“Have no fear. I am here to protect you, you are not going to the Emperor. I wish you to stay here with me, at your own free will.” He whispered softly and then pulled back and looked deep in her eyes and then closed the distance between their lips. Heat surged between them leaving her breathless as he pulled away from her.
“Stay.” Was all she could say as everything went black again.
The next time she woke up she could see light shining in the door and a figure outside seemingly working on something. Sitting up on the edge of the bed the memory of the their kiss heated up her cheeks making them bright pink. She took a deep breath and stood up, noticing she was still in her night gown.
She walked to the door and opened it. Baron turned around and stepped back a bit smiling “Hello.”
“Hello, Baron.” Saying his name made her heart jump.
“Are you thirsty?” He handed a cup with goats milk in it.
“Thank you.” She took it and leaned against the door.
He thought her hair was long but it was much longer than he thought. This wasn’t great. He needed to hide her, people would be looking for her eventually. He knew Rome would not quit. They needed to leave this place. As much as he loved it here. “So, we need to hide your hair. I have been working on a dye that will change its color for a while. I also feel like we should disguise the length of it as well.” He was afraid to touch her, it seemed as if he got to close she closed down.
Something deep down inside her trusted this man standing in front of her. His blue eyes made her feel comfortable and safe. Her eyes made their way from his face to his chest, full of muscles that made a lean waist. He was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. Maybe he was the only man she had ever seen in this light. “Okay.” She smiled at him.
“Ahhh…good…okay.” He looked around for some place to go. He had the mixture in his bucket.
“Maybe over here?” She moved to a spot that would be easy to cover up.
“Sure.” As they got there she took her hair and started pushing into the bucket. It looked like her hair was going to be black. She liked being close to him, she like hearing him breathing. Maybe she made him just as nervous and he made her. She noticed his hands were shaking again.
“Okay, now we need to get the top. Are you going to pass out if I touch you?” He wanted to be ready.
“No, I am ready.” She felt his hand make its way through her hair. She closed her eyes and made a few clicks. She wanted him to touch her.
“What was that?” He asked almost done.
“What?”
“That clicking sound?” He was making sure to get it around her ears. “It sort of sounded like what a dolphin sounds like.”
She was suddenly embarrassed “I didn’t know I made that sound. I am sorry.” Her cheeks turned red.
“It was beautiful. Maybe I bring out something new in you as you do to me?” He smiled at her as he made one last check. “Okay, now we head to the creek to wash it off.” He wanted to take her hand then she slid her hand around his arm. The heat burned him from the inside. His wolf was going crazy with her touch.
In a comfortable silence they walked toward the creek. She looked around at all the beautiful things around her. Her hand on his arm was burning in pleasure and pain. She wondered what this was? She knew she hadn’t met very many men but nothing made her feel these things.
“I wonder if you will still want me to stay when I change my hair?” She asked because she wanted to make sure it wasn’t a dream that he said that.
He laughed “I would want you to stay if you had no hair.” He pointed to her hand on his arm “Don’t you feel that?”
She nodded.
“That feeling means we are meant to be. I am just afraid to touch you because you keep passing out. I don’t want to hurt you. I would never hurt you.” Silence returned and then they were at the creek.
Baron stepped in first and held out his hand for Adella who suddenly looked very hesitant and terrified. She pulled away from him and shook her head refusing to get in the water. Baron came back to the bank. “I am right here. Whatever you are afraid of I will protect you.”
She sat on the edge of the bank and told him how the girls found her, basically washed up on shore and severely injured. She told him about her nightmares of being in the water, under the water and feeling so out of control. She started crying thinking of her nightmares.
“Hey, hey hey” he sat closer to her feeling very protective over her. “You can trust me. I am not going to let you go. In fact you can hold me around my neck and I will wash your hair.” She sat for a while watching the creek slowly go by and for whatever reason she was going to trust him.
She nodded and stood up closing her eyes. He stood in front of her and pulled her arms around his neck and slowly lowered into the water. Her legs went between his legs as he bent over and rinsed her hair out.
The cool fresh water swirled around her ears and she hugged him tight. She felt so safe with him as he gently washed her hair out. When he was done he picked her up and carried back to his cabin.
“Baron.”
“Yes?” He could barely get the word out he was having a hard time controlling his wolf.
“What color is my hair?”
“Very dark brown. I don’t think we missed any.”
“Is it okay?” He looked down at her eyes and finally got a good look at them, they were silver and teal with flakes of white shimmer.
“Well, it makes your eyes even brighter than they already were. Like I said, I will think you are beautiful no matter what.” He took a chance and kissed her forehead.
She smiled up at him “Humm…I didn’t pass out.” It still felt crazy to her but she was getting used to it.
“Humm….you didn’t.” Baron looked down at her one eyebrow c****d with an inquisitive look.
