“Uh...I said thank you, Your Majesty,” Cristal answered.
“No, after that.”
“Oh, I said...Col? What did I say?” she asked.
“I know what you said. You said mate, and I’m kind of freaking out over here.” I said before Cole could say anything. “I understand that we’re Col and I are mates, what I don’t understand is how. One of us would have to be a werewolf, and I know that I definitely am not.”
“Col definitely is,” Cristal butted in. Col glared at her, as if to say, I will kill you. I thought that him pushing her was bad. My mate’s a werewolf. And I’m not even dressed.
“I’m sorry to hit you with all of this information, and I know you’ll need to process it, but-”
“I’ve processed it. Or, at least I think I have. I think I just need a little time to adjust to, you know, constantly wanting to be around you.” He smiled.
His smile faded. “You should get dressed. I don’t want any other male-I mean people to see you like this.” My turn to smile. Was he already being possessive? How endearing, I think.
“Okay, fine. I’ll get dressed,” I slipped into my closet.
What to wear, what to wear. I was training with the guards again today, so I need squatting space. I picked a pair of light blue leggings and a white flowy crop-top. “Alright I’m ready,” I said as I came out of the room I call a closet but everyone else would call another master bedroom. (not flexing, I swear) Again, Cristal had disappeared. Dang, that girl is like a wraith.
“What are you wearing?” My mate all but growled, bringing my attention back to him. Pfft, like it had ever left, my inner voice scoffed.
“Clothes?” I stated. But then my sass fixed my hesitation. “I mean, I’m not in indecent pajamas, and I’m not naked, so stop complaining. I could have done so much worse.” I mentally patted myself on the back with that little quip.
Col just stormed out of my room growling. Men, the inner voice who I like to call Serafina, or Sera for short, snorted. Agreed.
DOWNSTAIRS
As I descended the stairs, everyone’s heads rotated towards me. Well, duh. You’re gorgeous and their queen, Sera refuted. I mentally rolled my eyes. We are so different. As I came to the bottom of the staircase, Cristal caught my eye and winked. I knew we would be friends, that or she would be my next stalker. I caught her and Col’s eyes, silently communing that I had some “stuff” to tell them, and soon.
Addressing the whole room, “Hello everyone. Sorry to keep all of you waiting, but even a queen needs her beauty sleep.” Cue group laughs, I thought. Dork. Sera joked. “If everyone has received their uniforms and the assignments attached to them, then find your Captain, and have a great first day.” Phew, that went well. As everyone filed out of the main hall, only Cristal, Col, and I were the only ones left. I signaled for them to follow me and learn secrets my parents might have died to protect.
