Jordan's POV
“Yoh!” I hear Ryan’s voice a few seconds after I hear the gym door swing open.
I turn giving him a quick glance before I let the ball bounce in the floor once more. Ryan is already dressed in his school uniform.
“You need to get changed before you are late for class.” He says as he approaches me. His sleeves are rolled up to the elbows and both his hands are in his pockets.
“The head boy is not wearing his uniform correctly.” I say and he chuckles.
“It’s a wonder I was chosen head boy when I never follow the school rules.” he says.
It’s actually a wonder to everyone.
From 10th grade Ryan has been breaking rules at Cali high and yet they still picked him as head boy towards the end of 11th grade. Perhaps they wanted him to change and become better. He has changed a little because his mom nags him whenever he miss behaves. Both his mother and mine are on the school board. Although mine doesn’t participate as much as his does.
Nothing is as annoying as having a parent on the school board. They get to know and hear about anything and everything you’re doing in school. I for one have not given my mother a hard time, I am always good, and she never gets any bad report. Ryan’s mother on the other hand has had enough reports concerning her dear son Ryan.
“Mmmmh.” Is all I say.
“Was the dinner that bad?” he asks when he stops right I front of me.
“He wants me to quit basketball and take up the business class again.” I explain to him.
His face changes to a very un-amused one. “You know my parents could still adopt you before you turn 18.” He says which makes me chuckle.
“Let me hit the shower.” I say while walking passed him.
“You know I am serious right? You and I can be brothers.” he says following right behind me.
“Aren’t we already close enough? You want us to be brothers?” I stop and ask him.
He just shrugs his shoulders, “We are best friends now and we could be best of brothers.” He gives me a wide grins.
I swear if this guy didn’t like girls the way he does, I would think he is gay.
“Emily would not like that though.” I point out then Proceed towards the locker room where I plan to take a shower.
“True but then she would stop asking her new brother out.”
His little sister Emily has a huge crush on me, she’s had one since she turned 12 and confessed it to me on my 15th birthday. Honestly I was stunned. I have always considered her as my little sister since I have no siblings of my own. Emily telling me she likes me and hopes to marry me one day was very creepy. We have practically seen each other grow.
“She might stop and give you space.” Ryan says.
I open my locker and pull a towel and my shower gel out before proceeding to the shower stall. I open the tap and let the cool water run before I step under the shower head.
Ryan of course stays there talking to me and making me forget the reason why I came to school as early as 05am. Every time my father upsets me, I can’t stand being under the same roof as him, so I leave the house as early as possible and come to school to practice some shoots in the basketball gym.
Although my game this morning was very bad. No matter how hard I tried to get my head in the game and forget the miserable relationship I share with my father, I couldn’t focus.
“What plans do you have after class?” Ryan asks me as we walk towards our classes. I am fresh and all changed into a clean pair of my school uniform.
“I want to catch up in Math, I know Mr Brown will be giving us a quiz any day next week.” I say.
“Luckily I didn’t get Brown this year, he was killing me last year.” Ryan comments.
Ryan and I are in different classes. We have always been in different classes since we started high school and yet we are so close. We spend time together in the gym playing basketball and at each other’s homes hangout whenever we can.
“Good morning, Jordan and Ryan.” Two junior girls greet us.
I wave at them while Ryan of course winks and flashes them his signature smile. He knows the girls love seeing him smile and he uses it to his advantage.
“There you are.” I hear our head girl's voice coming from behind us.
Both Ryan and I turn around to face Blair.
“Ryan.” She bitterly says his name.
“Blair.” He does the same thing.
These two still want to bite each other’s head off even after it’s been over a year since they broke up.
“Good morning Jordan.” Blair smiles at me. Saying my name as easy as breathing.
“Morning.” I keep it short.
“Everyone is waiting for us in the meeting room.” She says.
“After you.” Ryan gestures at her, she rolls her eyes at him before leading the way to the meeting room.
I hate Tuesday meetings.
Ryan only ever agreed to be the school head boy if I was part of the student council so that he drags me along to these kinds of boring meetings. Aside from the head boy and girl, the council has an accountant Gwen, publicity Sara, Secretary Matthew, and me as the chairperson.
We have a fundraising day in a week or two that we need to start planning and organizing.

“Jordan I need to see you after business class to go over the plans for the Fundraising day.” Blair says to me as I turn into my class.
The anger of attending business class erupts. I hate the damn class my father is making me take. I have had two years of it, and I am very confident I can ace the class without having to attend another year of it, but the stubborn man insists.
“Sure.” I say to her then walk into the already full class.
Everyone is chatting away as I make my way to my desk. A few girls of course stealing glancing of me as I make my way through.
Mary-Kate seems to be engaged in a conversation with Billy. The moment I take my seat and pull out a notebook, she turns around to face me.
“Good morning Jordan.” She greets me with a small smile.
I look up at her and something changes on her features. The smiles disappears which is now replaced with confusion. I do nothing but stare at her then look away, at this moment I am afraid of saying anything to her, I am still angry about business class. She seems like a nice girl and being mean to her won’t be a good idea.
She turns around and I hear Billy whisper something to her before the teacher greets us and the lesson commences.

Mary-Kate’s POV
Jordan seemed to have been in a bad mood all day. When we had our first break, he stormed out just as the bell rung. He has not once looked, smiled, or said a thing to me all morning. It’s lunch time now and I hope to get a chance to speak to him, but before I can even think of what to say, Billy drags me out of our class to the cafeteria. Good thing I don’t get to have lunch on my own.
“So since we have two free periods after lunch. I want us to go shopping.” He says before taking a bite of his food.
I chew and swallow the mouthwatering lasagna in my mouth before giving him an answer. The food at Cali High is amazing. Billy suggested we have steamed vegetables with lasagna which I must admit was an incredible suggestion.
“I thought we have business class after lunch.”
“No darling, the teacher had an emergency and will not be attending the lesson.” He says.
“What are we initially supposed to be doing if we have a free period?” I ask.
He exhales before opening his mouth to give me an answer. “Well, we are supposed to stay in class and study, but we all know that is not possible. So that’s why we are going shopping.” He says the last part with a smile.
“Oh, could we use that time to study instead?”
“What! Girl you must be crazy.” He says looking away.
“C’mon Billy even just an hour.” I try my best to convince him.
“It’s too early to be studying.”
“Not for me, I need to catch up in business because I am taking it for the first time.”
“It’s fairly easily you don’t need to study.”
“That might be true, but I need to have to determine that first.” I say.
“Fine, I will help you study but only for half an hour then I am out.” He says in defeat.
“Yeayyy, thanks BFF.” I smile at him.
“Only this once but next time I get to choose how we spend our free period.” He says rolling his eyes skywards.
My best friend is very dramatic but his fun.

Jordan’s POV
“So in business you need to know that there are three main players. The manufacturer, distributor and consumer.....”
I thought the library was meant to be quiet but hey people are even worse discussing the subject I currently despise the most, Business.
Billy and Mary-Kate are seated at a nearby table from where I am, they are discussing the main players of the subject. What Billy is currently explaining to Mary-Kate is part of the first module of the three that exist. Why are they discussing things from the first module when we are currently on the third?
“Go ahead and study that, I have to go now, or I will miss my appointment.” I hear Billy say.
“C’mon Billy it’s only been twenty minutes.” Mary-Kate complains.
“I know, but I am confident in you. Study and text me whatever questions you have.”
Next thing I hear is a chair being pushed back. Billy must be leaving.
“My phone’s dead.” Mary-Kate responds.
“Then write them down and I can help you tomorrow.”
“Fine.” Mary-Kate sounds defeated. “See you tomorrow.”
“Stop frowning or you will get wrinkles by the age 30 darling.” Billy tells her making me laugh a little, wrinkles by 30. “I will get you something cute. kisses.” He says then I hear the sound of his shoes hitting the floor until it is totally quiet again.
“Arrgggg why did I have to take this subject.” I hear Mary-Kate complain to herself.
Perhaps I should help her, I was jerk earlier when she was only trying to be nice. I push my chair back and collect all my things in my arms then go round the shelf fully stacked with books that are in between my table and hers.
“I can help you with one or two things if you like.” I say when I am standing in front of her.
Her head is hanging low looking at her notes before she looks up at me with a confused face.
“Jordan.” She says with disbelief. “Hi.”
“Hi, do you need help understanding your business notes?”
“Ahhh....” she looks down at her notes then back at me. “I do but you don’t have too...” she starts to say before I cut her short.
“Yes I do, I am sorry about earlier.” I say then take the empty seat right opposite her.
The air around her feels soothing, before I was feeling like my lungs were not functioning properly but after taking the seat in front of her, I feel better and relaxed.
“I was being a jerk and I am sorry for that.” I apologize and she looks stunned. I know people can be mean around Cali high and not care but I ain’t one of them.
“It’s okay. We all get bad mornings or something.” She says in the sweetest voice making my wrongdoing sound like no trouble at all.
“So why business module one?” I ask with a raised eyebrows.
“Well, I have never taken this subject, so I have to learn the subject from the very beginning.” She explains.
“Oh, I sell. Well, you’re in luck.” I smile.
“How am I in luck?”
“I am a prodigy in this subject even though my father doesn’t believe it.” I whisper the last part. “I can help you in Billy’s absence.”
“No no no.” She shakes her head, “I don’t want to bother you with that “
“It’s okay.” I stretch my hand and hold hers in mine.
The moment my hand touches her, I feel a soft wave pass through my entire body. A calming wave. Exactly what I needed.
I can’t help but notice how soft and smooth her skin feels.
“It’s no big deal.” I say to her.
“Alright.” She whispers as her face brightens up. Her chicks turn into a bright rosy pink. She pulls her hand back and looks down at her notes.
Fuck, she’s so pretty.
