Chapter 2: Mortal Realm

1049 Words
Aria's POV “Help me! Help!” A timid voice echoed in the depths of the forest. Followed by a low growl, and a ferocious howl, I trembled beneath the wooden oak. What could that be? Wolves aren't known to hunt in this area. And if it was, how come it can talk? In the deadness of the night, air crisped in suspense. It trickled my body hair to rose like a honeysuckle bore in rich soil. Even my eyes constricted, turning my pale blue eyes into something lucid like the sea. Someone's about to die... Helplessly, my limbs wept with frailty, trembling in woe. I can't do anything, my vision can only see how people will die. Apart from that, nothing fortunate comes after the nightmare the gods have given. “Please, anyone!” Another hoarse call pleaded. From a distant, the reverberation harkened even closer. Multiple shrieks rippled through my eardrums. I tried to look around, but only the dark shadow of trees filled my rear. Not until a virulent creature glinted after I blinked my eyes. It was a wolf! With its limbs slightly shifting into human flesh? Before my eyes, I watched as the beast turned into a handsome man. Adonis like, tall nose, thin lips, creamy face and slightly freckled cheeks. He's out of this world, and I've never seen anyone quite like him. Although aggravated with hesitation, I jolted forward to gawk at another lifeless body. A dagger was buried deep onto his chest. Wait, that looks familiar. To my surprise, it came about where I saw it. Stones engraved through the handle, with a gem slightly tilted on top to form the fern, that belongs to my father. Mixture of different emotions slammed inside my heart. I can finally end my very own nightmare! But just as I was about to pull the dagger out, the man's eyes rolled open. “Help me...” he murmured. Then, that was the last thing I saw. A loud knock brought me to my senses. Sunlight hinted through my window pane, how long have I been asleep? I took my gaze around, assuring if I'm still on the same place where I slept. Thank heavens, I'm nowhere near supernatural creatures. “Aria! You little girl, open the door!” Ms. Melly's voice cried out ballistic. Sighing, I forced myself off bed. My legs are still lightly numb from the agile intensity of my dream, but with Ms. Melly enraged, I managed to reach the door. Twisting the knob, the cheesed off face of my landlady burst open next. Her cheeks popping red from amateur make-up and lips pouting thick; she's following the trend. Or should I say, she failed to. Noticing my stare, she snapped her fingers in front of my eyes. “I told you several times already, segregate your trash!” I wanted to object, saying that I did, but I'm too tired to argue. With a simple nod, I responded, but she just rolled her eyes like a teenager nagging at her boyfriend. Ms. Melly seem to be repulsed and agitated. Curious about the cause, I asked. “Ms. Melly,” I addressed calmly, “what's with the get up? You're to meet your boyfriend, isn't it?” For the second time around, she just rolled her eyes. My patience is about to max out for this bitter gourd. She hissed, “It's none of your business.” I've watched her grow up, and she never liked meddlers. So to avoid morning grumpiness, I just shrugged my shoulders. “Have fun then, in the very least.” She murmured a whisper I couldn't hear, then just stormed off the hall. That's our Ms. Melly, there isn't a day where she isn't grumpy. The stumps of her heels began to fade, leaving me with desolate silence. It clung to my ear, causing the remnants of my dream to flash vividly. “Someone's about to die,” I mumbled whilst leaning towards the wooden door. Each time I close my eyes, the ferocious animal glints in my vision. I'm supernatural, but I have never seen such in my entire life. Much terrifying, the dagger... Auntie have drawn a sketch before, showing my last shot to end this nightmare. But immediately, that hope was taken away. Gods took the dagger in their haven to leave out possible destruction. Destruction, or my hope? A sigh escaped my breath, and while pushing my eyelids downward, a loud crash trampled my kitchen. “It's probably the cat again.” But just to make sure, I tiptoed for a glance. Carrying my baseball bat, I positioned myself for any possible intruder. A stab won't kill me, but it'll be painful as a dragon's bite. I hid against the wall, peeking for a cat, or a raccoon. But nothing was there, only the spilled soy sauce and broken porcelain plate is what I saw. Moments passed, and I patiently waited for something to come out. This is giving me cramps. Silence deafened me, and briefly brought chills to my spine. Finally, a growl emerged from the bottom sink. I gulped in anxiousness and fear, it resembled the one from my dream. This can't be... “Come out! Whoever you are!” I threatened boldly. Expecting the worse, I gripped the bat tight. The growl persisted and resonated even more menacing. I could feel my heart banging inside my chest. This whole thing is about to give me a micro heart attack. Suddenly, a familiar glow appeared beneath the sink. A pair of bright red eyes constricted towards my direction. Noticing my inanimate actions, it moved away from its dim position. I trembled, and the tile floor made me realize how terrified was I. Noticing my shaking motion, the wolf snarled and coiled itself like a spring. “Don't hurt me, whoever you are,” I pleaded in a timid voice. My breathing continued to hitch and it seemed to please the beast. It's teeth gnashed. Allied with sharp claws, it partly scratched the tile floor. “No! Not the floor!” I screamed, “Ms. Melly is gonna kill me.” Realizing the foolishness of my actions, I gulped. This is not a comedic show, Aria. I'll start running now.
