Chapter 3: The Search

1139 Words
Reciprocating its constrained force, the wolf sprang from the tile bed. With my limpid sight, its muscle appeared rippling in anticipation. I'm about to become someone's breakfast. The wolf's bellowing sound disarrayed my instincts. I barely even thought of fight or flight. But just in time, I was able to duck. From above, I could feel its svelte fur pass through my nape. Grabbing the opportunity, I rushed back to the kitchen, closing the door upon my entrance. The bat blathered after the loud banging. Shoot! I forgot the bat outside! From the insides, I could hear clamor echoing through my halls. Seemingly, the destruction resonated a few meters away from the kitchen. What is that animal up to? Bit by bit, the brawling began to fade. Instead of causing me ease, my heart pounded twice as hard. The eerie silence played like suspenseful music in my ears. Once more, I gulped in fear. Pulling away from the wooden door, I hurriedly grabbed my knives. Holding both on each hand, I pointed it trembling. My grip tightened, even my breathing exasperated. I've waited, but only silence could be heard. Is the monster gone? My heart began to pipe down and my panting slowed. And just like in typical horror movies, I gathered my deterred energy after the heinous chase. Cautiously, I tiptoed to reach the knob. My hands shivered as I twist it open, and the crackling sound of the door spite my senses attentive. Consternated to see the beast, I partly closed my eyes. But to my surprise, the grotesque figure vanished into thin air. Not a single broken window or door could aid its escapade. How could the beast gone out of nowhere? To satisfy my curiosity, I navigated my way to every corner of the living room. “Here doggie,” I playfully called out, “I got treats for you.” Moments after, a strange whisper in the air took form. The destruction where the wolf had been was spurred by a shimmer into thin air. Wavering and flickering in a mirage, its form began to shift. Wait, into something humane?! I tried to blink my eyes, checking if I might just be dreaming again. Crap, I'm not! I walked backwards, trying to escape whatever mythical creature might emerge. Please tell me it's not a dragon. The limbs, flesh, and skin, they're all to real. For no reason, it hitched my breathing aggressively. It resembled my dream. Terrified, but I couldn't take my eyes off the emerging figure. Just seconds after, the dismembered tallness appeared complete. “Where can I find the Grim Oracle?” The man blurted humorlessly. His features struck with familiarity, but I knew what I saw in my sleep. He's not the man. I continued to back off, trying to reach the kitchen knob behind my back. This time, the man anticipated my actions. His movements were slick and smooth as butter. If I was lucky enough to escape the wolf, this time, I won't be. Eventfully waiting for his skin to touch mine, I closed my eyes in defeat. “I'm no good as someone's breakfast. Shoo!” Silence fell once more after those words. Did my appeal to pity stopped the beast? I waited for a few more seconds but not a slap, neither a kick came. This killer is so weird. Tempted to open my eyes, I glinted narrowly to peek. In the same moment where my eyes bursted open, another man came falling off my ceiling. Shoot! I can't even handle one, now there's two! His unexpected coming caught the first one off guard, causing them to both fall and lose balance. While they were still stacked, I stormed towards the door. My heart was racing, while my sight constricted towards the shiny knob. I have to get out of here. Determined to escape, I bolted like a marathoner. But seems like fate has other things in mind. As my squirmy legs ran, I trampled onto the bat that I left earlier. Now, I believe that everything happens for a reason. The toppling motion appeared picturesque before my eyes. In slow motion, I anticipated my fall. With eyes expanded wide and arms flapping rigorously, I looked like a bird. My ears waited for the cracking sound of my skull, but neither my nape nor head touched the cold floor. In total opposite, a fleetly figure grabbed me by the waist. The warmth of its touch tingled the remaining sensitivity on my skin. It purged through my thin clothes, tempting me to indulge with the sensation. Everything's happening so fast. After the blur settled, and the silhouette appeared limpid. It was a man, humane body and features. Our eyes met for a gaze, his eyes pierced through mine. Even his electrifying stare caught me paralyzed. He's more handsome than the first one. Thin lips, creamy face, tall nose, and slightly freckled cheeks, this can't be. I can't accept this. My chest tightened, I can feel my ribs collapsing against my heart. This is far worse than my breath hitching. For a second, even my lungs were suffocated in grievances. He's the man from my dream. Before I could even reckon the prophecy, a black out ate me. *** “Tyron,” a masculine voice lectured, “I told you not to scare the mortal.” “I tried, but she provoked me,” the other protested. A small shimmer of light peeked through my closed eyelids. Am I still in my room? Loud footsteps marched back and forth, rattling my hearing. Slowly, I opened my eyes. What a sign of relief, I have no broken bones, my clothes are still complete and I'm safe. A soft sigh escaped through my throat. Oops... My eyes widened as I saw them move from my peripheral vision. If these men are werewolves, they have heightened sense of hearing. After they realized I'm awake, the second Adonis commanded me. “Sit.” He ordered humorlessly. My back acted with its own mind. I pulled myself off the cushion, sitting up to face them. In a closer and more serene view, I can't help but to notice their looks. Stop it Aria, you can't fantasize about them. They might be serial killers who are actually models, strange though. But just to get this done and over with, I led the interrogation. “What do you need from me?” I tried to remain ice-cold, but when the man from my dream stepped forward, my eyes constricted again. “It's not you that we need,” he plainly replied, “tell us where the Grim Oracle is.” So I was right, he's here to save his life. But how did he know about his Grim prophecy? Worse, how did he know about me?
