Chapter 4: Ms. Melly and Lies

His question hung an uncanny truth inside my head. A pang of the past splashed cold water to my pretentious spirit. With the both of them staring at me, my frets worsened. If he's here to save himself, this man can't know. None of them can. My hands shivered and trembled, the so-called Tyron gazed at it with empathy. I assume he's the wolf who scared me. “We won't hurt you,” Tyron assured, “just tell us.” His voice mellowed and softly tamed my banging heart. Complimented by his humane features, every woman will do anything just to get him, especially Ms. Melly. Ms. Melly... These men doesn't need the truth, maybe a lie is what can save me and themselves. “The landlady of this apartment,” I murmured, “she's the Grim Oracle.” I gulped after fabricating that lie. Glancing once more at their well chiseled body, I don't have to ask Ms. Melly to ride on with this gimmick. Tyron immediately thanked me, even smiling sweetly. “We appreciate your cooperation.” I couldn't help but to smile back. His demeanor pranced like rainbows and cupcakes, a total contrary to his companion's stare. From my peripheral vision, I could his eyes glaring and scrutinizing my posture and face. It was as if he's doubting what I said. Keep it together Aria, you have to be a good actress. Seconds passed and his eyes remained fixated. What is this man up to? My legs crippled in suspense, and my neck couldn't stop itself from moving. I shifted my gaze to him, “Do you have any questions?” But instead of answering, he just raised an eyebrow. Oh this little nameless brat! He has an attitude worse than my neighbor. “You should be nice to me,” I spat. They wrecked my kitchen and living room, for a broke immortal, I can't fix that dump. I presume that they can. My lips curved into a smirk with that thought. The malevolent Adonis noticed my peculiarity, causing him to throw another question. “You're lying, aren't you?” His voice shook life out of me. He's worse than a lie detector test! I can't spoil this, keep lying Aria. To cloak my nervousness, I stood up and boldly crossed my arms. No one's fighting fire with water. “Why should I?” My tone was marked brassy, but he started it. The man was about to open his mouth but Tyron immediately interceded. “Alpha Nexus, we should refrain from causing anymore trouble.” He calmly responded. So that's his name, Alpha Nexus... If he's called alpha, it can only mean one thing. I'm facing head on with werewolves. Worse, I'm even about to get into a fight with their Alpha. This tangled situation made my insides chuckle, but in the motion of this comedic event, the tragedy slipped in like cold. The prophecy is unfolding. “Fine,” Nexus angrily exclaimed. Tyron's word seem to mollify his rudeness, but his stare did not leave mine. It was clear that he doesn't trust me. I couldn't blame him. I'm a total stranger, and so are they. Although good looking, they've caused me enough trouble. I glanced again at ruins in my living room. Broken vases, smashed furniture and scratched walls, they've finely autographed my place. Tyron immediately discerned my concern, “We're so sorry for the damage. We'll help you fix everything.” He stretched a disarming smile again. As much as I want trouble to leave my wing, I can't let them leave unaccountable. Besides, Ms. Melly will kill me. With simple nod, I agreed. Tyron stepped closer, unexpectedly kissing my hand. As expected, Nexus hissed from behind. “We'll be back, I left a kiss as a collateral.” Followed by a wink, he surely made me giggle. Tyron's effortless casualty truly adds complexity to his nature. How can this man be a beast and prince simultaneously? After the kiss, Nexus and his companion hurriedly exit my apartment. The loud thuds of footsteps closed out. Finally, I can sigh and act paranoid. With fingers running across my hair, I shambled its curly locks. What have I gotten myself into? Werewolves reached my apartment looking for me. This time, I was lucky enough to fool them, but till when? Surely, they'll realize Ms. Melly's mortality. As my breathing suppressed the tension, my eyelids draped close. Total darkness ate me, revealing another heinous chase after life and death. But it wasn't my story, neither Nexus'. It belonged to my father. As the reminiscent dove deeper, a Grim Reaper's scream of agony perpetuated across the air. There, an apparent figure blazed gushing with blood. His eyes blurted in black ink. Scratches scattered all over his face, but before my sight, as one emerge, the latter heals. People could wish for immortality, and they're ignorant of what eternity means. In our lineage, the duties of a Grim Reaper was passed on for centuries. We harvest dying souls, send them to the underworld, and scare troublesome mortals who couldn't accept their fate. But my father, he was different. He showed pity for those who couldn't live, granting them second chances, even third ones. It didn't please the god of the underworld. In his havoc, he granted our lineage a curse, a curse of life... Like Prometheus, I will never die. I can see how and when people will die, but to help them was never an option. If I do, eternity might never cease. I, I am Aria, last Grim Oracle of the underworld. Join me as we watch mortals, dragons, and paranormal creatures die...
