Chapter 3: The Missing Gem

1062 Words
The sun had barely risen over the Lupine Royal Pack's territory, but Kael was already pacing in his office, his mind racing with thoughts of the missing gem. He had called an emergency meeting with his top advisors, including his beta, Marcus, and his head of security, Janice. "Alright, let's get down to business," Kael said, his voice firm and commanding. "The gem has gone missing, and I want it found. I want to know who took it, how they took it, and where it is now." Marcus nodded, his eyes scanning the room. "I'll lead the investigation, Alpha. We'll find out who did this and bring them to justice." Janice spoke up, her voice calm and measured. "Alpha, we should consider the possibility that this was an inside job. Someone outside this pack can't just take the gem away ." Kael's eyes narrowed. "I agree. Let's review the security footage and interview the pack members who were last seen near the oak tree." "But I thought the gem can't be removed from the oak tree. That place is a temple, goodness sake," Marcus said. "That is what we all thought but now the gem is missing and a revolt against the throne has started already" "Not surprised this is a good opportunity for Jared and his crew of rats" " The council is asking questions" "What is Clarice saying now? She was supposed to be at the temple 24/7 as a sorceress and priestess of the Moon Goddesses she moves a lot" "She is also a suspect to me" " Common Janice. Clarice is too pure for that" "Nobody is too Pure not to crave power Alpha. Think about it nobody has the power to take that gem. The only person I can think of is Clarice" " I suggest we should keep our minds open and think of other threats" " Ok. Alpha" As the meeting concluded, Marcus and Janice set to work on the investigation. They reviewed the security footage, which showed a figure in a black cloak entering the temple around midnight. The figure was skilled at avoiding detection, but Marcus and Janice were able to enhance the footage and get a glimpse of the figure's face. "It's one of our own," Marcus growled, his eyes flashing with anger. "That's Elara, one of the pack's younger members." Janice's expression was grim. "I'll go talk to her. See if she'll tell us what she knows." " I will go with you" " Marcus I can handle this" " She is your cousin Janice and Alpha gave us both the assignment to do" " She is my cousin but I am also the Pack Head of security and top Warrior. The pack comes first for me" " Janice- no Marcus trust me if she is involved I will remove her heart and head myself" " ok. but we need to talk abt- Marcus please not now" "Not now? You are my mate for goodness' sake" " Marcus please " "Please? Please? Kael is not your mate Janice. I am but I have to watch you every day lose yourself while watching him " Janice walks away. " I am talking to you and you are walking away !!!" "Get a grip on yourself, Marcus. We have a thief to catch" As Janice left to interview Elara, Marcus began to dig deeper into the pack's records, looking for any signs of disloyalty or suspicious behavior. He discovered that Elara had been struggling financially and had been in deep debt to some shady characters. Meanwhile, Janice found Elara in her quarters, looking nervous and on edge. "Elara, what do you know about the missing gem?" Janice asked, her voice firm but controlled. "Nothing Jan" "Nothing?" "Nothing cousin" " You better speak up, Elara, because footage of you in the temple was seen. You and I know you don't go to the temple except during festivals. If you don't speak out now, immediately leave the Alpha will order your arrest" Elara hesitated before speaking. "I didn't take the gem, Janice. I swear it. But I did see something. I saw two people lurking around the temple that night. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I'm not so sure." Janice's eyes narrowed. "Who did you see?" Elara took a deep breath before answering. "It was...it was .... I don't really know whether it was male or female ... I couldn't see their face they wore a mask" "Mask?" "You still draw right ?" "Yeah. Why? " "You have to come with me to Alpha's office - no no no I can't" "Yes, for your safety, you have to. What you have said is going to help us to a reasonable extent" " Jan you know how Kael is ... he might kill me - he won't you are a witness and a suspect ..yes you might end up locked up but not killed " Janice's expression turned thoughtful. "Promise?" " promise" As Janice and Elara left Elara's quarters, she couldn't help but wonder if Ryker was indeed involved in the theft. She knew that Ryker had always been a bit of a wild card, and his loyalty to the pack had been questionable in the past. She also wanted to review the pack's security measures to see if any weaknesses could be exploited. Furthermore, she needed to verify Elara's alibi to determine if she was telling the truth. The investigation was heating up, and Marcus and Janice were getting closer to uncovering the truth. But as they dug deeper, they began to realize that nothing was as it seemed, and the truth might be more complicated than they had initially thought. "What the hell!!!!" " this s**t is deep." "No one in this Pack has the gem. Clarice has tried to feel the energy of the gem here but responds" "This whole thing is tricky" "We have to look at this from a picture" "You are meaning outside the pack Alpha ?" " Yes" "mmmmm" "Bring to me every warrior that was on patrol that week" " ok Alpha" As the sun set over the Lupine Royal Pack's territory, Kael sat in his office, his eyes fixed on the wall. He was determined to find the gem and bring the perpetrator to justice. The pack's future depended on it.
