(Jace)
Slowly, the dust clears, and I don’t believe it! Samuel is kneeling over Lux. He has his knees keeping Lux’s arms down, his body sitting over Lux’s chest and his hands are choking Lux. “Give up! He calls over the choking sounds coming from Lux. “Give up NOW!” Lux continues to struggle, refusing to give up. I see Lux falling unconscious.
“Stop!” I call out in my Alpha voice. Samuel gets up from Lux and looks at me. Just like his last Brwydro, he lays covered in blood with a swollen face and determination in his eyes. Damnit! He looks incredible right now. “The Brwydro is over. Congratulations, Gamma Samuel. You have shown your worthiness, endurance, determination and dedication to our pack. Wolves, you are dismissed for the night. Gamma,” He looks at me with pride from calling my Pup- well, he’s no longer a pup- Samuel a Gamma. “Wash yourself off and meet me in my office in 5 minutes.”
(Samuel)
I did it! I defeated Lux. I am a Gamma of the pack. I can’t believe it. I wash myself off from the blood and go to meet Jace. I wonder what he wants.
I walk into the office. He smiles at me. He has taken off the Alpha clothing and the face paint, but now, he just sits shirtless at his office desk. “I am really proud of you. You showed a lot of strength out there. Also, your dad would be proud of you.” I look down at the ground.
"Thanks, I just wish he was here to see it.”
“He was there with you, and I promise he is proud of you.” Jace lifts my head so I look at him. “I promise he’s here with us.” I pull back away from him. Tears form at the corners of my eyes.
“How do you know?” I ask, knowing he doesn’t have an actual answer but is only telling me what I need to hear.
“That same Alpha regalia that I wear was worn by all the Alphas before me for generations. That includes your father.”
“My father? That clothing was also worn by my father.” I can tell how happy I look. I have a gigantic smile spread across my face from ear to ear.
“Yes, they say that the spirit of each Alpha stays in these artifacts after their death. The crown connects me to each of them. I can sense him.” I reach across the Alpha garments, now laying back in the wardrobe. Each tiny silver decoration connects me to the man who I can barely remember.
I can’t contain myself. I leap for him and hug him tightly. He responds to my hug and squeezes me tight. His hug warms my body. I feel myself healing faster just from holding him and his muscles. I feel every single back muscle I saw before. They feel incredible. My abs rubbing against his, fitting in between each other like puzzle pieces. After what feels like minutes, he pulls away, but I don’t want him to. When I realize how we hugged though, I back up from him. “Right, so,” he says, clearing his throat.
“So,” I respond.
“In a few nights, there is a full moon. During full moons, our powers are elevated. When a wolf finishes their initiation into our Pack, all of the wolves assemble for it and celebrate The moonlighting is our final ceremony. Will you join us?” I smile at him again. “We can’t celebrate without you.”
“That sounds incredible.”
I can’t wait for a moonlight right through the night. I will finally be a full-fledged member of the Pack and a proud Gamma. The air gets stiff around us. I can’t stop staring in Jace’s eyes. Every time I see them, they become more and more mesmerizing. Maybe those feelings I felt for him are real. Maybe I wasn’t making it up earlier.
