Shelby peeled her eyes open to the sound of her alarm clock. She groaned as she searched her bed covers for her phone, sliding her hands underneath the pillow and moving herself to the side to find that she was laying on it the whole time. She pressed the off button and checked the time.
4:30pm.
Her eyes suddenly widened as she jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom after gathering up her work clothes. She stripped her clothes off she was wearing from the bar last night which was a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a blue crop top. She got into the tub with running hot water, taking a quick shower before she slathered her body down with lotion and put on her work clothes. She walked into her and Kyler's room, sitting on the bed and slipping her black converse on.
"Are you running late?" Kyler asked her, rolling onto his right side from his left to look at her. He was watching YouTube gamers on his phone which she hadn't noticed until now.
"Almost." She replied, plainly, her voice a little raspy like she was still waking up.
"You're pretty hung over, huh?" Kyler asked, snickering at her. She sent him a glare before he stood up and pulled her into a kiss. She sank into his soft lips against hers before pulling away from him, her hands still placed on the sides of his face.
"I have to go." Shelby smiled up at him. She grabbed her phone off of the bed from behind him before heading for the door which he followed. He came up and gave her a nice slap to the ass, making her squeal and glare at him again.
"I love you." He told her, lovingly.
"I love you, too." She smiled, warmly.
She closed the door and ran over to her car, hopping in and starting it. Thankfully, her work wasn't too far so it only took about 5 minutes to get there. She actually arrived early.
After parking behind the Pizza Parlor, she got out and started walking towards the door, rubbing her temples. Once she got to the big red door, she reached out a hand to enter the pass code so she could get in, still rubbing her left temple as she did so. Suddenly, without warning, a loud honk came from next to her, making her migraine so much worse. She angrily turned and looked over to see an old red car that belonged to no other than Dillon Westfall.
Shelby has known Dillon since they worked that summer job together with Bre a few years back. The 3 of them became friends pretty quickly, but Bre and Dillon grew closer than Shelby did with him. Dillon has a big heart, but he doesn't take any s**t from people. He can be a cuddly grizzly bear one second, and turn into the raging green Hulk the next. He is a big intimidating guy to those who don't personally know him, but Shelby knows what kind of person he is which most of the time is a sarcastic asshole but she finds it hilarious because she can be, too. Dillon is the type of guy to do anything for his friends and especially his family; he will go to the ends of the earth for you if he has to, but he also knows when enough is enough. Dillon is a 3 strikes kind of guy and knows when he should take someone out of his life because they could be toxic for himself or people around him. Regardless of the walls and precautions Dillon has built up around him, you couldn't find a more loyal friend.
Dillon was sitting in his car, a smirk across his face. Without any hesitation at all, Shelby held up both hands and flipped him off, mouthing 'f**k you' to him. He laughed at her and rolled down his window.
"Wanna get on my sexy beast car? Or on THIS sexy beast?" Dillon asked her, biting his bottom lip with wide eyes, making Shelby scoff and roll her eyes at him.
"Save your pickup lines for Bre." Shelby lightly chuckled, walking to the passenger side and getting in.
Dillon handed the vape to her after she shut the door which she gladly took and inhaled.
"How are you feeling after your fun night out with Bre?" Dillon asked, getting a look from Shelby.
She exhaled the vapor in a straight line, letting it hit the windshield and disperse across it before handing the vape back to Dillon.
"I feel like s**t. How about you?" Shelby asked with a forced smile. He inhaled the vape as she spoke and blew it towards the windshield.
"I'm good." He nodded.
"That's good." Shelby smiled.
"How did you like that last D-n-D game?" He asked, curiously.
"I really enjoyed it up until I almost died from the cave ceiling crashing on top of me." Shelby replied with a chuckle.
"Okay, so basically, none of it." Dillon said, laughing once Shelby glared at him.
"Oh, you are funny." Shelby scoffed.
"I think I am." Dillon told her with a nod.
Shelby looked passed his head, seeing Dave walking up to the red door. She let out a sigh and looked down. Dillon followed her gaze, looking over at Dave just as he was going inside.
"Something going on between you guys?" Dillon asked her.
"No. He's just been acting weird recently. He won't talk to me about anything." Shelby sighed.
"You've been acting strange recently as well." Dillon pointed out.
"How so?" She asked, curiously, watching him intently.
"You've been more moody and paranoid. Like how that bear attacked the car, Kyler said you freaked out and thought it was a person." Dillon explained to her.
"I never said it was a person." Shelby said in a hushed voice.
"Then what do you think it was?" He asked her. She looked up at him, making intense eye contact for a minute.
"I don't know," She sighed. She checked the time on her phone seeing that she needed to head into work. "I gotta get going but I'll see you later."
"Sounds good." Dillon said, handing her the vape so she could take another puff which she gladly accepted. She took one long inhale from it and said, "Thank you," which came out like a deep man voice before she handed it back and closed the door.
