Devyn POV
Thank goddess that lunch went smoother than the questioning of Bruna. I knew she was a firecracker but wasn’t prepared for her to attack Attorney Nellows. Honestly, I loved it! On a professional level, it was highly inappropriate.
Jori sits beside of me during lunch. She has Duran on the other side of her.
“Hey Jori, can you pass me the rolls? I think I need more carbs for the afternoon session.”
She laughs knowing I’m referring the outburst from Bruna. “So, Dev, what’s up with you? I know you were upset yesterday about something. I’m deeply sorry I couldn’t give you my full attention. This mate of mine is demanding.” She finishes snickering.
“I found my mate, Jori.”
Jori exclaims, “WHAT? HERE? WHO IS IT? Oh goddess, please don’t tell me you rejected him!”
“Calm down! The whole table jumped. Yeah, but it’s not good.”
Jori, “What do you mean not good? Finding your mate is the most magnificent thing any wolf can experience. It fulfills your innermost self.”
I listen and wish it were true for me, “It could be, I’m certain. Jori, it’s Tegan. Dr. Tegan Moss.”
Her face looks like a kid being told Santa Claus doesn’t exist. She goes pale. I start patting her making sure I don’t send her into labor. She should be home resting, but she is stubborn and has insisted on attending with Duran.
“Jori, come on now, snap out of it. Duran!” I scream getting his attention.
Soon he is attending to Jori who says she feels faint. I had no idea that my information would cause reaction. The next thing I know there is a splatter. Well f**k, I just caused my Luna to go into labor. Duran is going to kill me.
Duran orders the pack guards to get the car asap. He wants to get her to the hospital inside our pack if possible. Duran keeps yelling that we need a doctor. Jori keeps telling him to calm down and that there is time.
The next few minutes seem like eternity. Tegan hears the commotion and runs over to see if he can help. Duran growls at him. I growl at Duran and immediately apologize. Duran is looking at me like I’ve lost my damn mind. Luckily, he shifts his attention back to Jori.
A guard arrives. Duran picks Jori up and rushes her to the car instruction the rest of the non-essential pack at the trial to follow them. I’m left here with 3 staff members and my investigators. In reality, I should be fine. I normally like having the support system there in case something goes south but I’ll make do.
It’s then that I feel sparks moving throughout my body starting at my elbow.
Tegan, “I know you don’t want to hear from me, but I can sense your worry for your Luna. She’ll be fine. It’s normally some time for the actual birth after her water breaks.”
I turn to him wanting nothing more than to wrap my arms around his neck and nuzzle in breathing his scent to calm me down. Obviously, I’m not in a position to do such a move.
“Thank you, Dr. Moss. I assume you know what you’re talking about. Now, if you will excuse me.” I say those words realizing what a b***h I am. There is no way that I can lower my guard. I keep telling myself that he may have murdered my client’s daughter and pack member.
The guard bellows, “Court will resume in 5 minutes.”
Thank goddess I was saved. My wolf was crying in my mind. She wants his wolf with every fiber she possesses. I’ve never seen or heard this side of her before. In fact, she has begged me until she passed out. She then cursed me like a sailor. Then, back to begging. I’m not certain how much more I’m going to be able to take. I’m hoping something in the trial turns her against him as well.
I make my way into the court. I turn to Alamand, “Is Elmondo in the waiting room for us?”
Alamand, “He is but has implored us to leave him out of this trial, if possible. Devyn, he is falling for Monet. I think he loves her.”
I take a deep breath, “He knew the risk. I won’t jeopardize this trial for his indiscretions. However, I won’t bring him into it unless I’m pressed.” Alamand just smiles at me. He knows I’m a softy with a hard exterior.
Elder Bevis enters, “Let’s get this started. Devyn, you’re up.”
Devyn, “Guards, please bring Monet Primrose.”
The guards brought Ms. Primrose into the court. I eyed her with hatred knowing that she had touched my mate. In fact, she’s touched him in ways I may never touch him. I had to control myself from growling and attacking the b***h.
Elder Bevis goes through the standard speech making certain that Ms. Primrose knew the penalty of lying. Internally I would like to see her lie because the penalty is death. That thought makes me smile. I know that is extreme but those are my emotions, and I can have those thoughts if I want.
“Ms. Primrose. What is your title?”
Monet, “I’m Dr. Moss’s administrative assistant.”
“For how long?”
Monet, “It was 3 years last month.”
“During those 3 years, have you seen Dr. Moss do anything unethical or unbecoming of a doctor?”
Monet, “No ma’am. Dr. Moss is the most respected doctor in the hospital. He cares for each of his patients and tries his best to correct any illness or injury his patients have obtained.” I notice that she glances over to Tegan and gives him a sweet smile in which he returns.
“Did you help him with his report on this case?”
Monet, “I did. He dictated the details. I then looked it over so I could get clarification in case something important was missing. It was handled as we normally do with cases.”
“Are you in a relationship with Dr. Moss?”
I know this question just threw her into panic mode. “I’m his administrative assistant so I value him and have developed a friendship. I’m not certain what else you could be referring.”
It’s then that I turn to Alamand and motion for him to hand me the picture. Just looking at them has me ready to rip her f*****g head from her shoulders. First, I walk up and hand them to Elder Bevis. He takes a double look at her deep throating Tegan. I guess he should have closed the curtains.
Elder Bevis motions for me to continue. I walk over to the table where Tegan is sitting with Attorney Nellows. I have a death glare in my eyes. I want to rip his d**k off so no other she-wolf or human can give him pleasure. I slap the pictures on the table and watch as Nellows eyes widen, and he glares at Tegan.
“Ms. Primrose, last chance. Are you in a relationship with Dr. Moss?”
I know she knows the pictures hold some type of proof of their encounters. She lowers her head, “Dr. Moss and I are both unmated. We found comfort with one another. I’m not certain what this has to do with the case.”
“It shows that you might have something to cover up for your lover. What are you hiding?”
Monet, “He’s not my lover. Yes, we have had s*x. I wanted it to be more at one point. I’ve found someone who I believe will be my chosen mate. I’m telling you – Dr. Moss is a good man and wolf. He tried his best to save Ms. Garnets.”
Well s**t. That was convincing. I thought I would throw her off guard. “What do you know about his personal life outside of work?”
Monet, “Very little. I would meet as his home; we would share dinner and the evening together. I never stayed the night.”
“Ms. Primrose, please don’t make me press. Tell me what you know about his outside escapades.” I say this looking at Alamand. I truly hate to use Elmondo, but she is keeping the information from me.
Monet, “I’ve told you what I know.”
I motion for Alamand to go get Elmondo. “Elder Bevis, I have another witness who will share some information given to him by Ms. Primrose.” I say this and Monet looks shocked. She looks at Tegan with question like she hasn’t a clue what I’m talking about.
Within a minute, Alamand walks in with Elmondo. Monet cries out. Tears stream down her face. If I weren’t so pissed that she slept with Tegan, I’d feel sorry for her.
Monet to Elmondo, “I trusted you! I may have even been falling in love with you. How could you? How could you betray me? Oh, my goddess, Tegan I’m so sorry! I told him that you would go to that sleezy club. I had no idea he was using me.”
Elmondo, “It started out that way. I fell in love with you.”
Monet, “SHUT UP! I never want to see you again. You used me! You make Tegan look like he’s hiding something. That’s not it.” She turns to me, “I didn’t mention it because you’ll turn this all around. He meets his best friends from high school there. They have a few drinks. It’s innocent.”
“Attorney Nellows, it’s your turn.” I say turning on my heel heading back to my seat.
I look up to see Elmondo in tears as well. He looks devastated.
