Repair Work Begins

Eli and Vasi spent several hours in one of the main research labs, trying to find the files they needed when she finally got an idea. She knew that she had written many of the books that detailed the designs and knowledge of these particular systems, as she had been the foremost expert on Stellar Plasma Drives. She searched for any of the books or papers she had written, and ran smack into the one thing she had been hoping to avoid. It also explained why her crew had never actually been rescued. “What is that?” Rodney asked seeing the seal for the first time. Vasi sighed as Eli looked at it as well. “That gentlemen, is the Lantean Council Seal.” She said as she looked at Rodney. “You haven’t cracked the seal?” “No, we have not managed to c***k the Council Seal.” He answered her. Vasi looked at a few things when a formula appeared on the screen and Eli snorted. “What?” she asked him. “You haven’t ever seen that formula?” Eli asked her and Rodney shook his head. Vasi looked at it, and shook her head as well. “No, it will be difficult to c***k, it is in code isn’t it?” she asked him. “Well we are fortunate than.” Eli said as he stepped up and entered the code into the console and pressed enter. “That is the same code that was used to lock the bridge of Destiny.” He said as it turned green and the files of the council were opened now. He opened the file on the Destiny, and found the blueprints for upgrades to many of the systems on Destiny. “Well, this is nice. It seems that they decided to leave us there by order of the Clans.” Vasi said as all three of them used the consoles to look through different parts of files. “Eli, what was that code you used?” Eli asked. “4623879.” Eli answered. “It’s a code based off of the ATA gene.” He told them as Rodney nodded. “Thank you Eli, I think you just unlocked the full access to the Atlantis database. Including the manufacturing facilities above the engine room.” Rodney said as he ran from the room as Jonas entered followed by Jack. “Commander Vasi, can we speak?” Jonas asked her. “What is it Mr. Quinn?” she asked not taking her eyes off of the console as she looked at the data flashed past quickly. “Could we discuss the proposal of using Langera as a supply line to Destiny?” he asked her making her turn and look at him. “It is ironic that you arrived just now, as we just unlocked the full Lantean Database. What would you like to discuss about it?” she asked turning to look at him. “Do you think it is actually possible to teach us what we need to know in order to adequately assess the risks of dialing Destiny?” Jonas asked her. “Mr. Quinn, I have taught many people things much more complicated than power generation and modulation in much less time than 6 weeks. You are looking at a picture that is too large, and are allowing factors that should not effect the results do so. I am under the impression you actually understand the results of what you read this morning?” she asked him and he nodded. “What is your assessment of the dialing of Destiny using the parameters as set forth?” she asked him. Jonas looked at her, and nodded. “Without considering other factors, dialing Destiny does not pose an appreciable risk.” “So why would even more of your people need to be brought up to speed than?” Vasi asked him. “Because not all of them trust me, and I have been encountering issues if I do not moderate my beliefs and understanding of more complex sciences than they are currently experts of.” Jonas answered honestly. “Than we have an issue Mr. Quinn, as what you will actually be learning things far more advanced than what this represents. Those of you who come to Destiny will be learning about the ships systems and assisting with repairs. If they will not work to their full potential, there is no point in them coming. I expect it of everyone I work with, and accept nothing less. So Jonas Quinn, if you wish to discuss the agreement with me, let us do so open and Honestly.” Vasi told him bluntly as Jack listened to the words. “We would be learning about Destiny?” Jonas asked. “You will work specifically with Irnas on the Power Storage, Generation, and Conversion systems aboard Destiny. They are far more complex systems than what will be required of you to dial Destiny.” Vasi answered. Jonas was surprised, as it was exactly what they would be working with to dial Destiny. “How long will they have with you?” he asked. “We will need Jota for atleast 3 weeks aboard Destiny. Wether it is one person, or several over the time allotted, will be up to you. But that also means Jota will be spending those 3 weeks here, and he will be teaching as many of your people as can observe and learn as they work with him.” Vasi said as Jonas nodded. “Than I shall be the one who switches with Jota. I know of a dozen scientists that the council would trust, that will also be essential to the construction of the systems. That way we can all benefit the most from this exchange.” Jonas said as he looked at her and Eli. “Are you saying you were given the authority to finalize the negotiations for us to establish a supply line?” Vasi asked him. “Yes, I was given that authority. If you will abide by the terms laid out in the proposal, we will accept it.” Jonas said to her. “I have a few conditions to add before you do that, now that we are being honest with each other. First, no matter what your colleagues believe, never withhold what you know from your superiors again. Second, you will be the Chief Scientist representing your planet, and driving those below you to learn the materials quickly. Third, over time I will assist you in developing other technologies, however the supply line to Destiny takes first priority. I expect that your people will learn to make the parts we need, in exchange for a copy of the database aboard Destiny. It contains all of the knowledge of my people, and will give you a good starting point to advance yourselves too.” Vasi told him. “Agreed.” Jonas said extending his hand so Vasi could shake it. Which she did after Eli whispered what it meant in her ear. Vasi and Eli returned to Destiny a few hours later, and went straight back to work where the Engineers had been working. Vasi smiled as she saw that the first module had been taken offline, and disassembled to the point she could easily diagnose the issues this one was having. She went to work replacing the burnt out and damaged modules, knowing that once she restored the module and brought it back online, she would be able to disconnect atleast another 2 at a time. She checked on the Robot, and knew it would be another 2 days before it moved the new module into place. She sighed as she grabbed the parts she needed, and let herself become absorbed in the work. Eli meanwhile was working on the weapons, and was glad that Morna had showed him where the crates of spare parts for the weapons were located. It was making the repairs go quickly, the biggest draw back would be the power conduits to them were severely damaged. The robots would repair them, but it would take weeks for all of them to be back online. It would take him another 2 weeks to finish the repairs to the weapons, and he was enjoying the ability to focus on one task for more than a few minutes. It was 12 hours later when Eli walked into the hydroponics bay, and saw Vasi doing the same thing he had planned while Morna, Irnas and Jota slept. "How goes the repairs to weapons?" Vasi asked him. "The systems themselves will be repaired inside of a week, the conduits however will take the robots several more weeks. It seems 6 weeks is about perfect for the dialing from Langera, as most of our critical repairs should be complete by than." Eli said as she heated water for both of their MREs. "Well let us hope that everything goes according to plan. It seems all of the plans I have made recently blew up spectacularly." Vasi said making Eli chuckle as he considered what he knew of her past. "It's not all bad is it?" he asked her as she looked at him. "No, there are a few benefits of being here." she admitted looking at him curiously. "Can I ask a personal question?" she asked him. Eli looked at her, and nodded as he poured the hot water into each of their pouches. "If I can ask you one in return." Vasi laughed as he said that, and nodded. "Are you involved with anyone?" she asked him. "The complicated question, short answer is no. Longer answer is that her consciousness was uploaded into the computer, and had to be quarantined in order to save Dr. Rush." Eli told her as Vasi opened her eyes shocked. "How long were you married? And was it one of the ones with you?" he asked her. She laughed as she took the ring off and looked at it. "Outside of stasis, about 12 years. He was the one in the stasis pod who did not survive." she answered feeling the loss again. "Apologies, I did not realize it would have been so recent for you." he said making her laugh. "My people rarely marry for love, and Horgath and I were no different. We did however work closely together for many years, and became close. We were both set to begin working on the first of the Atlantis Class Ships, when this tragedy occurred." Vasi said as she slipped the ring onto a necklace around her neck. "Can I ask another question?" she asked him nervously. "You know my terms." Eli said smiling as he realized he was drawn to her personality. Vasi smiled as she did indeed know his terms. She knew it would also be a question along the lines of what she asked. "Do you ever wish you had someone you know you could always count on being there?" she asked him. Eli thought about it for a moment as he looked at her. "Over the last 2 years, yes I have considered it. Many times actually. It doesn't help when there are limited options aboard the ship. Maybe that will change if we could find a way home, but I am not hopeful that will be in my lifetime." he admitted to her. "It is hard to know what life holds for you, but I hope you find someone that can be that for you." she said. Eli smiled as he opened his MRE and began eating. "Would you be interested perhaps?" he asked her slyly between bites making her blush as soon as he asked the question. "How could you tell?" she asked blushing even deeper. "Not fair answering a question with a question." he said raising his eyebrows. Vasi blushed even deeper as she looked at him. "Fine, yes, I would be. Now, how could you tell?" she asked him. Eli smiled as he confirmed it for himself. "Maybe I was hoping it was more than just my imagination." Eli said blushing himself. "I however think I came to a realization over the last few days, and know that I need to pursue what I want now." Vasi nodded as she took another bite of her food. "Not a bad practice, and one I have tried to live recently as well. So, next question?" she asked as he nodded. "How does courting work nowadays?" she asked making him blush. "Not something I honestly have a lot of experience with. I generally like to get to know someone first." Eli admitted as he looked at her. "My husband was selected by my parents at 3 years old, and I met him all of twice before we were married. I have absolutely no experience with courting. What would you like to know?" she asked him as they kept eating. The next morning Irnas, Morna and Eli all went into the Plasma Storage Room, and all began working on cleaning out the tank of the solidified debris that had built up from cooling plasma. All of the storage pods had this build up on it, and it took plasma level temperatures to cut it out in chunks. Eli threw one of the chunks into the mineral processor, and was surprised by the level of rare minerals in it. By the time they took a break 4 hours later, they had cleared the first of the large tanks of the build up. There was 500 pounds of it laying on the deck in chunks that could be recycled. "One down, 30 to go." Irnas said with a smile. They had a week before Jonas switched with Jota, and they all wanted this part finished so that they could teach him what he needed to learn. Vasi finished rebuilding the second engine module before her day was half over, and found herself wondering how Eli was holding up with the work they had to do. Cleaning the tanks wasn't a task that was glamorous, but it had to be mostly done before they could recharge the system properly. She ran the diagnostic on the module before she reconnected it to the system, and began disconnecting the next module as the computer worked. By the time it finished the diagnostic she had begun the diagnostic on this module, as it had been identified as one of the weaker ones by the computer. The second module showed that it would be operating at 85 percent efficency, and she was satisfied with it knowing there would be no way to get more out of it. She however was upgrading them to hyperspace drives while she rebuilt them, glad that they were easily converted for this portion. That evening Vasi was walking past the bridge when she saw Eli looking at the sensors. She watched him for a few minutes, as she remembered just how fast the time seemed to go while she thought about him. He was looking at the Command Ships, and she knew he was worried about being found by them. "When we encounter them again, it will be a far different outcome than what they are used too." Vasi said making him jump while she chuckled as he turned to look at her. "I know, the shields alone will be much stronger than they have ever encountered." Eli said as he looked at her. "How was your day?" he asked her. "Finished upgrading the third module this evening, might finish the others in a couple weeks. The module you all removed should be replaced tomorrow, and I hope to have it upgraded tomorrow as well." she said as she walked in. Eli commanded the door closed as he pulled out two MREs, and deployed the bridge up so they could look out the windows. "What kind of speed upgrade are we looking at once the upgrades are complete?" "From the review of recent logs, the drives were on their last leg. It left Alterranus capable of speeds up to 20 light years per hour. Now it has been lucky to maintain 5 light years per hour. With all 16 modules upgraded, I am hoping for speeds of 3200 light years per hour. If the map from Atlantis was accurate, we are about 25 billion light years from the Milky Way. It won't get us home in our lifetimes still, but this is the only upgrade I can do on short notice with the parts we have on hand. The upgrade I will be able to build with more supplies from Langera and Earth, we should be able to get to speeds of 500,000 light years per hour. If we can, than our trip will only take 6 years." Vasi said as they ate their dinners and looked at the distant stars.
