Looking in and Looking out.

1258 Words
I walked along the footpath, on my way to post my letter. I knew it was my day off, still I decided to drop in to the bookshop after. I headed into the post office, a young girl was behind the counter, she smiled warmly. I approached her handing her my letter, she stamped it before placing it in the basket beside her. Then I filled out a form, signing up for a post box, on my letter I’d put C/O post office, next time I could put a post box number now. I paid the rental amount for 6 months $36.50, cheap. Then stepped outside heading towards the bookshop, I stop at the café on the way grabbing two coffees. I opened the door, the bell chimed. “Calm down Gina! Hold on there’s a customer!”  The stairs above me creak, I looked up to Mr Walsh and the troublesome young woman, a deer in headlights looking down. Smiling, I nod to them then head into the office to wait. I’d barely sat down, when Mr Walsh came in, the customer slammed the door on her way out. “Good morning Ivy? Got nothing better to do hey?” He forced a smile, but I could see he was troubled. “Nup, nothing to do, posted a letter and that’s it, so I thought I’d bring you a coffee, since the kettle I ordered hasn’t arrived.” I smiled. He nods thanking me, as he clasps the paper cup, his hands large and scarred. “Hows it been today?” I ask lightly. We go on to chat for a few hours in between customers, about the news, the weather, his wife, my schooling. He avoided the werewolf topic and I didn’t ask about the conversation him and the young woman had been having when I entered.   Gina POV Why wouldn’t he listen? She was the one they were searching for! Gina had seen the photo of her, that the young Alpha a few towns over was showing everyone. She didn’t know why she was important to him, but he was a bloodhound on the girls tail. But the old man wouldn’t turn her in for the reward. As for the other Alpha, she was sure he was also looking for the location of this girl, that was the one she wanted to turn the girl in too, but only out of fear. The stories of his cruelty, strength and temper were true. Gina had only met him once, but when that girl had growled at her, the way her eyes flashed, the waves of power that rolled off her. She was sure, she had to be his daughter. But Mr Walsh wouldn’t listen, or he didn’t want to accept it, if the young Alpha took her the danger was gone, if the older Alpha found her, she feared the dangers of not turning her over. Shaking her head, she pushed the door to the bar open she needed a drink or 5.     Garrett POV He’d met a blonde she-wolf today and he couldn’t shake the feeling she knew something. I hadn’t caught a name or where she was from, she had sat down next to him, ordering breakfast. She eyed him curiously, finally deciding to ask. “You’re not from around here?” “No I’m not.” I answered curtly. “What are you doing trespassing on another packs territory?” She pryed “Not trespassing within town limits.” I retorted in a bad mood from my lack information on Ivy’s whereabouts. “You know the rules don’t you, Then what are you chasing here?” She tried again. “A girl, or she-wolf.” I pulled the picture from my pocket sliding it across to her. At first I didn’t look at her, but when she didn’t say anything, I turned she studied the photo, then slid it back to me. “Do you know her?” I breath, watching her closely, she hesitates. “I thought I did, but no. She just reminds me of a wolf I met long ago, Sorry.” She shrugs, as her breakfast arrives, she digs in. The disappointment is like punch in the gut. “All good, I’ll keep looking, if you do see her, tell her Garrett’s looking for her.” I pay for my coffee and her breakfast, then stand and leave. I could feel her eyes follow me out the door. Now he was wishing he’d pressed her further, instead he went to the nearest bar and got smashed, only to have his mates find him and drag him back to the motel. Where were you Ivy?   Ivy's POV Ivy stopped in the supermarket on the way home, she found the microwave isle, grabbing the butter chicken and rice, she turned to see a woman staring at her, she looked as old as Mr Walsh, despite her age she look fit not fragile. She turned using her walking stick to hobble to where Ivy stood. “Hello Miss, you must be Ivy?” She smiled. “Yes I am.” I smiled back. “I’m Mrs Walsh, George’s Wife, I put the add in the paper.” She explained. “Of course, and thank you for doing so, I love working at the bookshop.” I grinned. “I’m so glad to hear it, stubborn George wouldn’t even consider keeping a worker but it seems you’ve changed his mind. He had been telling me all about the changes you’ve made at the store. So I’ve just been to have a look for myself, book worms aside the lavender has given a pleasant scent when you walk in the door now, as well as the smell of furniture oil on the shelves.” She smiled. “He tells me now, he wished he’d found you sooner, the old boy has a new lease on life and the ideas he’s coming up with for the store.” She shakes her head smiling. “Well you just watch out.” She winks. “Thank you for you kind words Mrs Walsh, I appreciate them immensely, I grown to really love the job.” I smile. “Surprised a polite she-wolf like yourself hasn’t found a pack or mate yet.” She remarks. My mouths gaps, before I realise she’s waiting for an answer. “Ah no, I was never apart of a pack, never had an opportunity to join one. I had a boyfriend but he wasn’t my mate, so I was forced to leave him.” I finish quietly. Mrs Walsh’s eyes soften, she reaches for my free hand. “I’m sure you’ll find a pack and your mate in no time, you’re a beautiful woman.” She cradles my cheek gently. “Thank you, can I ask… Are you and Mr Walsh, the same as me?” I hope I haven’t over stepped, as I wait for her to answer. “Yes dear, a lot older, too old to shift now, but yes, though don’t tell him I told you, he’s a lot more cloak and dagger then I am, I can’t lie.” She winks. Patting my hand again, she bids me farewell, expressing how nice it was to meet me and heads off. After I get a few more items and pay for them, jog the last hundred meters to the motel, the sky’s still light but the suns descents turned it orange, I know I’ve cut it fine tonight.
