CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE Sheriff Doug Harrison heard the explosion and saw the black smoke erupt from over the tree line. He put his foot on the gas and drove toward the mine as quickly as he dared. Harrison had no idea what had happened, who or what caused it. As Harrison pulled onto the track that led to the mine, he noticed Jordan’s police vehicle parked behind a black SUV. Harrison slammed on the breaks, and the Yukon skidded to a halt, just missing the rear of Jordan’s vehicle. He jumped out of the police vehicle and ran toward the mine entrance. A blanket of gray dust hung in the air, and Harrison covered his mouth with his ballcap. He looked over at a pile of huge boulders, twisted metal, and fallen trees. It would take days to get anyone out of there with their equipment. “Jordan!”
