Chapter 5

Ana POV The cab I boarded pulled up in front of my parents' huge gate. I looked at the gate and sigh heavily. I prepared my mind to face their spiteful face. I stepped out of the cab and paid the cab man as I went inside the house. I got inside the house and laughter filled the room. I stepped inside to see my dad, step siblings and my step mom sitting around the dining table. Their lips were moving nonstop with a smile playing on their face and I could tell that they were having a playful conversation. They didn't notice my presence but it hurts to see my dad choosing his new family over me and my sick mother. I turned to head to my room when I heard my step mother's voice. I halted, turning to face her. "Ana, why are you just coming now? Don't you know that you have something to do for my daughter, Chloe," She said, and my eyes darted to Chloe who seemed busy cleaning my dad's stained lips. "What should I do for her?" I asked, tiredly. I had a terrible day today and I don't want them to add to it. "First, where were you?" She inquired, gazing at me. "I was at the hospital," I murmured. My father scoffed. "Too busy to help to assist your sister. Can't you see that she's fragile." Did he just say weak? Weak my foot. She's very strong, and antifragile but I didn’t argue. I just lowered my gaze. "I’m sorry." "Mom, dad. Please stop, it's fine. She was busy taking care of her mother at the hospital so please don't be too hard on her" She asserted, smiling and I scoffed, muttering an inaudible word. "Fake," Chloe stood up and walked to my side as she held my shoulder, dragging me to the sofa. She made me sit on the sofa and I began to wonder what's going on. Why is she suddenly acting nice to me.. "Sis, how is your mom's health?" Caramel asked, acting sweetly as she approached me, seating next to me as I was trapped in the middle. "I appreciate all you do for this family," Chloe said, smiling and before I could react, she pulled out a silver necklace,"We got you something," she said, holding it out. I stared at it, stunned. She had never given me anything before. Slowly, I reached for it. "Thank you...what did I do to deserve this treatment," I spoke, my voice barely above a whisper. "We bought a necklace and we want something in return," Caramel responded, and my eyebrows arched. "And what's that?" The two sisters grinned, glancing at each other before settling their gaze on me. "Marry in my place," Chloe said, and my jaw dropped. "And who am I to marry?" I asked, gazing at the two of them. My dad and my step mother gazed at me with a disdainful look but the smile on Caramel and Chloe is giving a hint that something is wrong. "And you have to pay us back for this gift if you truly appreciate it by helping my sister out," Caramel muttered, stroking my hair as her eyes trailed from my face down to my neck. "The second of the Harrington family.”
