The Masked Warrior
The icy wind howled through Frost Forest, carrying with it the scent of snow and danger.
Towering pine trees swayed beneath the silver glow of the full moon, their branches creaking like restless spirits. Every shadow seemed alive, every gust of wind whispered an unseen warning.
Lyra Everhart ran as fast as her legs could carry her.
Her white cloak snagged on thorny bushes, and icy branches scratched her arms, but she didn't dare stop.
Behind her came the terrifying sound she dreaded most.
Growl… Growl...
Four enormous black wolves burst through the undergrowth, their crimson eyes glowing in the darkness.
They were not ordinary wolves.
These beasts had been twisted by corrupted magic, making them larger, faster, and far more vicious than any creature Lyra had ever encountered.
"They're getting closer..."
Fear tightened around her chest as she stumbled over a tree root.
She hit the frozen ground hard. Pain shot through her knees. "No..."
The wolves circled her slowly, their sharp teeth glinting beneath the moonlight.
Lyra's breathing became uneven.
She wasn't a warrior.
She belonged to the peaceful Moon Rabbit Clan, a clan known for healing rather than fighting.
Although she possessed magical abilities, they were meant to protect life not take it.
One wolf lunged. Lyra instinctively threw up her hands.
A silver barrier flashed into existence.
Bang!
The beast crashed into the shield before being thrown backward. The barrier flickered violently.
"I can't keep this up..."
Her magic was already fading. The wolves attacked again. Cracks spread across the barrier.
Just as it shattered.
A brilliant beam of golden light shot through the forest. Boom!
The wolves cried out in pain and retreated into the darkness. Silence returned.
Lyra looked around in confusion.
"Who... saved me?"
Not far away stood a lonely wooden cabin.
Golden light spilled from beneath its door.
With nowhere else to go, Lyra hurried toward it.
She pushed the door open.
The warm air inside was a welcome contrast to the freezing night. A fireplace burned quietly in one corner. But something else immediately caught her attention.
A man knelt in the center of the cabin.
He wore black armor scarred by countless battles.
A dark mask covered the upper half of his face.
His sword was buried deep in the wooden floor as he used it to support himself.
Golden flames danced wildly around his body.
He looked as though he was fighting an invisible enemy.
His breathing was ragged. Every few seconds his body trembled violently. "Stay back..." he growled.
His voice was low, rough, and filled with pain.
Lyra froze.
She had heard stories about warriors suffering from magical overload.
When too much power gathered inside a beast warrior, their bodies could no longer contain it.
If the energy wasn't released. Their power core would shatter.
Death would soon follow. The masked man slowly lifted his head.
Even through the mask, Lyra could see the agony in his golden eyes.
"I said...",
"Leave."
The room shook as another wave of power exploded from his body.
Furniture splintered. The windows cracked.
Lyra stumbled backward. She knew she should run. But she couldn't.
"He saved me..."
She whispered softly. "I can't leave him here to die."
The man's breathing became heavier.
Black veins spread across his neck as the uncontrollable power consumed him.
Another painful roar echoed through the cabin.
Without thinking, Lyra closed her eyes.
Silver light surrounded her body.
Her human form dissolved into countless glowing particles.
A heartbeat later. A small white rabbit stood where the young woman had been.
The Moon Rabbit.
Using her beast form allowed her healing magic to become much stronger.
The tiny rabbit cautiously hopped toward the warrior.
Golden flames lashed around him. Every instinct told her to run.
Instead, she continued forward.
When she reached him, she gently rested one tiny paw against his arm.
Warm silver light flowed from her body into his.
For a brief moment. The flames calmed.
The warrior opened his eyes in surprise.
"So... warm..."
he whispered. Hope filled Lyra's heart.
"It's working." She poured more healing magic into him.
But suddenly,
His power erupted like a volcano.
A deafening roar exploded through the cabin.
The shockwave threw Lyra across the room.
She crashed into the wooden wall. The silver light around her flickered.
She transformed back into her human form.
Blood trickled from the corner of her lips.
She wiped it away and struggled to stand.
"My healing magic..It's not enough."
The flames surrounding the warrior were becoming brighter. His heartbeat was weakening.
At this rate.
He would die before sunrise.
Tears filled Lyra's eyes.
"There has to be another way..."She searched her memory.
Then she remembered something her grandmother had once told her.
"When a beast warrior loses control of their power, only a perfect soul resonance can calm the storm. Such a miracle is blessed only by the Moon Goddess."
Lyra's heart pounded.
Could she really risk something so sacred for a stranger?
She looked at the masked warrior.
Despite his suffering, he had used his last strength to save her from the wolves.
He had expected nothing in return.
Slowly, she reached for his trembling hand.
"If fate brought us together tonight..."
"Then I won't abandon you."
Outside, the full moon emerged from behind the clouds.
Its silver light poured through the cabin window.
Far above the sleeping world.
An unseen goddess watched silently.
And for the first time in centuries.
The threads of two destined souls began to intertwine.
