Saif and Abdul thought the hours had turned out to be another long day’s work—too long for them. Haitham thought that this time he would throw up for sure, and he silently prayed that God would save the bricklayer or at least forgive Haitham for doing nothing to help him.
Saif made Haitham and Ahmed take the bricklayer outside, and after the 30 minutes necessary to start the Toyota, they headed for Kamis Hadeed’s house, located in the Dolan Heights District of Fallujah—about a 20-minute drive from the National Islamic Resistance Center.
