Chapter 5 0900, 31 March 2004 Highway 10 Fallujah, Iraq Clifford Jones stared at a map in the front seat of a black Chevrolet Suburban headed north on the Baghdad-to-Ramadi Expressway and looked at the approaching cloverleaf intersection. He yelled at the driver, “Get off here!” The driver reacted to Clifford’s instructions, and the Suburban, followed by three Mercedes trucks and another black Suburban, headed west on Highway 10 towards the center of Fallujah, Iraq. The trucks hauled restaurant equipment from Taji, Iraq to Camp Ridgeway, and since trucks got hijacked every day in Iraq regardless of whether they were transporting goods for Americans or Iraqis, the trucks needed escort by armed security contractors.
