Classes for the day passed in a daze. Although I usually didn't pay that much attention to the teachers, my mind was completely focused on what happened a few hours ago, trying to digest it. Zoning out again, I replayed in my mind the scene that unfolded itself a few hours ago.
*Flashback*
"Zach!" I heard Ethan shout angrily as I rushed to see what happened. I was rudely woken up from my beautiful sleep when I heard Ethan shout. "Are you that much of a jerk to go after a vulnerable girl like Amber?!" He confronted Zach. Seeing the latter walk towards Ethan with a swagger, I realized that there was gonna be an epic confrontation, and as much as I wanted to stop this...thing, whatever this confrontation was called, I WAS just woken up and a bit groggy so I decided to stay and see how this played out. That's when it hit me. "Didn't Ethan hate his sister?" I rubbed my eyes and muttered to myself confusedly. "So what, what is it to you if I went after whatever her name is?"Zach shot back. "So what- you are really thick-skinned! She's my sister, you jerk! My sister! Couldn't you have tried to score a girl that isn't as innocent as my sister?!" Ethan incredulously shouted at him. I could see the tip of his ears getting redder by each passing second. "Nah man, your sister's fun not like other girls who throw themselves at me." Zach grinned at him. By this time, a large crowd had gathered around the two boys, trying to see what was the huge commotion about. "You-!" Ethan sputtered and threw a punch at Zach. The latter wiped away the blood that came out of his nose and threw one punch back. It was quite obvious to everyone that Zach was way fitter and way stronger than Ethan as the latter staggered back and spit out blood. I saw a few spectators place bets on who would win the fight. I shook my head, silently crept up to them and dragged them away from the crowd. Taking away their bets and scaring them into leaving the campus for now, I walked back only to find the boys both fighting away like they were in a ring. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Valentina watching them concernedly. I locked eyes with her and with a silent agreement, we both dashed to the boys and pulled them off each other. Holding Ethan tightly as Zach was dragged a few steps back by Valentina, I glared at Zach and saw him smirk back at me. "See you around, Alex" he said as he and his sister disappeared into the crowd.
*End of flashback*
Remembering the split agreement I had with Valentina, I decided to find her. Lucien's words appeared in my mind for a second. "Meanwhile, just stay far away from the De Leon and her brother." "When the time comes you will know what you want to know." He had said all those things, and fed up of cryptic words, remembering his words only made me want to clear things up with Valentina. "I mean, after all, her last name is Rodriguez because of her father so technically only her mom was a De Leon...right?" I reasoned with myself.
But now didn't feel like the right time. Pushing my thoughts away, I went into my dorm and found Amber sobbing into her pillow. I thought about what she had been going through and decided to give her some space and privacy. "Al- Alex, can you.. can you please stay with me?" Her soft voice stopped me in my tracks. "Of course." I answered softly and sat down beside her.
I wasn't sure what exactly would make her feel better so I ordered in pizza and some drinks.
Amber looked broken, and I didn't think Ethan alone could have made her feel like that. I sat there with her till dark then I climbed onto my own bunk and tried to sleep. After a few minutes, I heard Amber's voice. "Alex...will you sleep with me? I'm scared..." Hearing her innocent voice, I climbed down and wrapped my arms around her. "You're safe, Amber." I comforted her. She snuggled into my arms and soon snoring could be heard. I lay there frozen, and for the first time in a long run, I felt warmth in my heart.
