Chapter 1: A Gathering of Kingdoms
The Kingdom of Azul had never looked more magnificent. From the towering palace walls to the bustling streets below, every corner of the capital shimmered with celebration. Sapphire banners bearing the royal crest fluttered in the morning breeze, while artisans decorated the streets with flowers gathered from every province. Merchants displayed their finest goods, musicians filled the air with cheerful melodies, and travelers from distant lands poured through the city gates. The Alliance Summit was only three days away. For the first time in over a century, every allied kingdom had accepted the invitation to gather in Azul. Some came seeking peace. Others came to strengthen old friendships. A few came with hidden agendas. King Joseph stood on the palace balcony, overlooking the city. Beside him stood Master Kael and Lady Elaris. “The kingdom hasn’t seen a gathering like this since my father’s reign,” the King said. Kael nodded. “Which is exactly why we must remain cautious.” Lady Elaris crossed her arms. “The Crimson Order won’t ignore an opportunity like this.” The King sighed. “I know.” His gaze drifted toward the distant mountains. “And somehow…” “I feel they’re already moving.” ⸻ A New Assignment Inside the Royal Academy, the six members of the Royal Vanguard stood in formation. Master Kael paced slowly before them. “You’ve all earned the title of Protectors of Azul.” “But that title comes with greater responsibility.” He stopped in front of Azul. “From today onward, the Royal Vanguard will serve as the official escort and security detail for the Alliance Summit.” Taren raised an eyebrow. “So we’re guards now?” The room chuckled. Kael smiled. “If that’s how you wish to see it.” Brakus scratched his head. “I thought we’d be fighting monsters.” Nyx spoke quietly. “Sometimes…” “The most dangerous monsters wear smiles.” Everyone turned toward her. Kael gave a small nod. “Exactly.” He placed a large map of the surrounding kingdoms on the table. “Representatives from seven kingdoms are on their way.” “The Kingdom of Solis.” “The Kingdom of Virelia.” “The Kingdom of Norhaven.” “The Kingdom of Drakhar.” “The Kingdom of Eryndor.” “The Kingdom of Mystral.” “And the Kingdom of Valeris.” Liora’s eyes widened. “Seven kingdoms…” “This is bigger than I imagined.” “It is,” Kael replied. “And one mistake could start a war.” The room fell silent. ⸻ Rivals on the Training Grounds Later that afternoon, Azul and Bashan found themselves standing in the palace training arena. Wooden practice swords rested against a rack nearby. Bashan smirked. “One match before the guests arrive?” Azul smiled. “I knew you’d ask.” Within moments, the sound of clashing swords echoed across the courtyard. The duel drew the attention of passing servants, palace guards, and even a few young nobles. Their movements had improved since the Sanctuary. Azul’s style flowed like water—patient, graceful, impossible to predict. Bashan fought like a storm—relentless, fearless, and overwhelming. Neither gained the upper hand. Watching from the balcony, King Joseph smiled. “They’re stronger.” Kael nodded. “They make each other stronger.” Nearby, Lord Varos watched in silence. His expression betrayed nothing. But hidden beneath his sleeve, his fingers tightened. “The rivalry remains balanced…” “Good.” ⸻ The First Guests Arrive As sunset painted the sky gold, the palace trumpets sounded. “The first delegation has arrived!” The massive palace gates opened. A procession of white horses entered the capital. Their armor gleamed silver beneath the evening light. At their head rode an elderly king with kind eyes and a calm smile. Behind him marched disciplined knights carrying banners marked with a soaring silver phoenix. The people of Azul applauded as the visitors entered the city. Brakus leaned toward Taren. “Who are they?” Before Taren could answer, Master Kael spoke. “The Kingdom of Valeris.” “The oldest ally of Azul.” Liora noticed something unusual. “There are fewer guards than expected.” Kael smiled. “Valeris has always believed trust is stronger than fear.” Then… A royal carriage rolled through the gates. Every conversation seemed to fade. The carriage door opened slowly. A young woman stepped onto the cobblestone road. She wore polished silver armor instead of a royal dress. A sword rested confidently at her side. Her long chestnut hair swayed gently in the breeze. Emerald eyes calmly surveyed the capital, taking in every detail. The crowd whispered. “Is that…” “The Princess of Valeris?” “She looks more like a knight than royalty.” The young woman smiled politely as children waved at her. Then her eyes wandered toward the palace courtyard… Where two young warriors were still sparring. She watched silently for several moments. The first, calm and composed. The second, fierce and determined. Finally, she turned to the elderly knight beside her. “So…” She asked with quiet curiosity. “Which one is Prince Azul?” The knight smiled. “The one in blue.” “And the other?” “Prince Bashan.” The princess watched them a moment longer. Then a faint smile appeared. “I see.” Without another word, she continued toward the palace. Neither Azul nor Bashan realized that someone had just taken an interest in them. And neither could have guessed… That her arrival would change the course of their rivalry forever.
