Work- Amelia's POV

1123 Words
Click, click, click…. My nails tapped on the keyboard of my work computer as I updated a file for my boss the next morning. A yawned slipped from my mouth and work partner, Samantha, caught it. She glanced over at me and smirked. “Late night?” She asked as she turned back to typing her computer. “With a man, I hope?” I stopped typing and turned to her. “After Oliver stood me up last night, I’m good on dating these men you bring to me.” I said, rolling my eyes. “Wait, he stood you up? When I spoke to him, he said he was out at the movies with you.” I shook my head and went back to typing. Samantha was my best friend, but it was like she always introduced me to these men that are nothing, but arrogant assholes, who don’t want to date or think they are too good for women who work in CEO companies. “I’m sorry, girl.” Samantha said. “I thought he was the one for you.” “I think, I’m just going to focus on my work, okay? I’m not in a rush for a man at the moment.” Samantha got up from her desk and walked across to mines. She leaned on my desk and glanced at me with those fawn-brown, almond shaped eyes of hers. “I’m sure you’ll find a man.” She whispered to me. “Hell, I wish you would find one so you can finally get some.” “I’m not in the rush to find one, Sam.” I told her. “This is what I should be really focusing on.” Samantha sighed before she walked back to her desk. Good, I thought to myself. Now, I was able to try and focus on this work. However, there was something else bothering me at the time. Something that I remembered from last night. My eyes widened when the wolf popped up in my mind. The black fur and its huge size. It really scared me, but when I looked into its eyes… I felt something else, besides the fear. Those sea-green glowing eyes were mesmerizing to me, making me stare into them longer than I had ever should. There was a dog tag on his neck, if I remember too. That’s how I was able to know it was there. I sighed again and stopped typing. Then, I turned to Samantha and gave her a small whistle. She stopped typing and looked back at me. “Just out of curiosity, are there wolves out here in California?” I asked her with squinted eyes. “Wolves?” She asked with wide eyes. “Out here, in California? Girl, please. Wolves don’t come this way.” “Really?” I asked. “That’s strange.” “Why do you as?” I smiled at her and shook my head. I wondered if she would’ve taken me serious if I told her about the midnight visitor. “No reason. I just.. I swear I saw one last night. It was hiding behind the bushes and I saw it as it approached me. He was…” “What, a runt?” I shook my head. “He was huge.” I told her. The other CEO assistant, Jasmine, stopped typing and turned her attention to me. “I’m sorry, did you say a huge wolf?” She asked. “Like a wolf that was taller in height?” I turned to her and nodded my head. “That’s not a regular wolf.” She told me. “Are you even sure you saw a wolf last night?” “Yes, I’m sure.” I told her. “Every night, I step outside to feel the breeze in my backyard and sit by the poolside, splashing the water with my feet. Last night was the first time I saw it.” “I think you were just dreaming.” Samantha said. Jasmine stopped talking and typed something into the computer. She whistled at me ad when I turned back to her, she turned her computer screen my way. The picture was of a huge wolf being compared to a regular size man. “Was that what you saw?” She asked me. I nodded my head. I recognized the black fur, completely. The wolf had it. Samantha walked over to us and stood by my side. “And?” Samantha asked her. “What’s your point?” “These wolves died years ago.” Jasmine began, fixing her prescription green glasses on her face. “They were fearsome wolves. Like nobody was able to get close to them without them trying to feast on them.” “Wow.” Samantha said. “That’s creepy. What did they call them?” “They’re called dire wolves.” Jasmine said, then she turned her eyes to me. “If you met one like this, you need to watch out. They are carnivores and kill humans as well as livestock.” That looked like the wolf I saw last night, but what she told me was completely different. His attitude towards me was way different from the ones online. “That’s strange.” I told her. “That one didn’t act like that at all. He was , a lot friendlier.” “And he looked like this?” Jasmine asked. “Yeah, but his eyes weren’t black like that.” I said. “It was a sea-green glow.” “Sea-green? Are you sure that’s a wolf? It sounds like a man you need to bed.” “That’s what I said.” Samantha joked. I rolled my eyes and went back to working. They weren’t listening to me. Like I know what I saw and I wish I saw it again. Just one more time to let them know that my eyes didn’t deceive me. While I was working, someone was whistling through the front door of the building. I glanced up and saw the USPS man coming with a big package in his hand. He walked around, spreading his Ivory Spring scent into the air, forcing the women to glance up from his work. His muscles made the button up look so good on him. And how he was wearing the dog tag around his neck….. Don’t let me get started. He walked to Samantha’s desk first and Samantha walked over to him. She tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around and glanced down at her with a smile on his face. “Wow, you are tall.” She said. “Is that package for me, gorgeous?” “Hello to you, too.” He said. “Are you, Mrs. Amelia Prestcott?” I got up from my desk and walked over to him. “It’s Miss. Amelia Prestcott.” I said. When he turned his head to me, those alluring sea-green eyes were back. It made me think of the wolf I saw. And those dog tags that I mentioned, were right around his neck. He stared back at me as well with a shocked expression, like he knew me. Maybe Samantha and Jasmine were right; maybe my wolf was an actual man himself.
