The car hurtled through the night, the endless road stretching ahead of us as if leading to another world. After what felt like hours, the car finally came to a stop. I looked around, disoriented and exhausted. We were in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by darkness, the night air thick with the scent of pine and earth. A sense of foreboding hung in the air, amplifying my unease. Zeke spoke to the young driver in German, his tone sharp and authoritative. Through the long drive, I had learned the young driver’s name was Ray. He had a youthful face, almost boyish, but his eyes held a depth of experience that belied his age.
