Prologue

I heard a loud knock on the door as I was preparing my breakfast. My roommates are out of sight since last night. Damn! I was so drunk that I couldn’t even remember a thing from last night. I needed to make a mental note not to get have too much of a good time ever again. But I am just so happy that college is finally coming to an end. I will be out of this hellhole! Behold! I walked to the door without even looking at myself in the mirror. “Liz?” I shouted, thinking that it was one of my roommates outside the door. I opened the door and was shocked to see a man in his forties, dressed in a very formal black suit and black slacks with matching black leather shoes standing in front the door of my apartment. “Who…are you?” I asked slowly, trying to somehow think of why a man like this would come to my door. He smiled at me. “I am Timothy Gregor. I am here to look for Mrs. Samantha Andrea Charlemagne as per the Royal Prince’s order.” I narrowed my eyes at the man. Something inside me clicked when I hear my name coupled with a different surname. “Sorry, there’s no Samantha Andrea Charlemagne here. My name is Samantha Andrea Lewis.” I said, chuckling. He smiled curtly. “Then, I am looking for you, young lady.” He said as he handed me an envelope. I unconsciously took the envelope and stared at it for a moment. From: The Commonwealth of the Kingdom of Louxuria 234 McMillian St., New Kingsville, United Kingdom “What is this?” I asked as I examined the envelope in my hands. Mr. Gregor took a deep breath. “That, your Majesty, is your marriage certificate with Prince Harris Charlemagne.” My eyes widened in shock. I almost choked on my saliva. “My…what?!” I asked in a higher tone. And what did he say? Your Majesty?! What the hell is happening?! Mr. Gregor smiled. “That is your marriage certificate, Mrs. Charlemagne.” He repeated like he didn’t care about how shocked I was at his sudden news flash! How could he be so coldblooded?! “No. No, no, no, no…” I continuously told him. “Is this a prank?” My brain is already in a state of panic. What the hell is this guy talking about? Me? Married? To the Prince? Of Louxuria? What would my mother think of me? I haven’t even told her that my exams are done! I would never ever go back to New Jersey if this…oh, my God! I cannot even comprehend how shocked I am right now. I cannot even comprehend a single word that Mr. Gregor is talking about right now. He looked at me in a serious face and there I started to panic even more. “How the hell did this happen?!” I blurted out as I looked at this piece of paper in front of me. My hands are trembling as I slowly unveiled the letter. My eyes are shaking as I read the goddamn certificate. Commonwealth of Kingdom Louxuria Marriage Act of 1978   Certificate of Marriage   I, Judge Jean Jacques Michaels, having the authority to solemnize marriages under the Marriage Act of 1978, hereby certify that at the Sacred Hall of the Gods in the Palace of Louxuria, duly solemnized marriage in accordance with the provisions of that Act between Prince Harris Charlemagne and Samantha Andrea Lewis in the presence of the undersigned witnesses. Dated this 5th day of August in the year 2018.   Below it is my signature and the Prince’s signature with the signature of some witnesses. My eyes widened when I saw Liz’s name listed below. Damn? I almost threw the piece of paper at the man in front of me. No. No. No. This is not happening! How can I be married? I don’t even know this guy! How did I have my signature in there? Did somebody forge it? But then why is Liz’s signature in there, too? My mind is in total haywire. What makes it worst is that I can’t even remember a single thing that happened last night. We went to club to celebrate the end of torture. We had some drinks. I shut my eyes and tried to remember everything. “Come on, Sam! More shots!” Liz giggled as we downed a bottle of tequila in half an hour. We were in a mood tonight and it’s all because in two weeks’ time, we will be over with college. All those sleepless nights for endless reports are way out in the bin! I took one lemon and salt as I chugged down another glass of tequila. “Sam, that hottie has been looking at you.” Gillian told me as she nudged me. I looked at where she’s looking at and saw a man staring at me with an amused grin. He has blonde hair and even from afar, I can see how his eyes are in the darker shade of blue. His thick brows complemented his deep blue eyes. “Go on and say hi,” Liz told me. I shook my head and laughed. “No way! Those types only like one night stands.” I said and focused on the lemon and tequila in front of me. “Those eyes are going to bring you to heaven when you look at them! What the hell are you talking about?” Liz beamed. “He’s such a hottie!” She giggled. I looked at him again and saw him chatting with his friends. He seemed cool…but then he looks like a f**k boy so, “Nope. I’m not into those types.” Gillian rolled her eyes. “Oh, yeah. We forgot that your type, are those nerds like Vincent, right?” She mocked with her thick British accent. I let out a tired breath. “Come on! Vincent is a decent guy!” “Decent but a nerd…” Liz mumbled before drinking her shot. Vincent Meyers is our batch president in our department. He’s tall with streaks of his Asian decent so evident in his face. He’s muscular but he doesn’t wear clothes that accentuate his body. He wears eyeglasses because he has astigmatism. He loves reading books and he’s neat. Being neat made him get the upper hand from other male batch mates that we have. I shook my head. I am not here to think of boys. We are here to have fun and to celebrate! The three of us went to the dancefloor and jived in with the people dancing to the music of Jennifer Lopez. Tonight had the huge crowd. My friends and I don’t usually go to clubs but this has got to be a lot of people because Liz and Gillian were pushed towards the front due to the huge swarm of people. People kept on pushing me that I ended up bumping someone. “Sorry.” I said without looking at the person I bumped into. “Are you alright?” A thick British accent welcomed me. I nodded. “Yep. No prob.” I said as I continued to dance through the night. Being in UK for almost four years made me immune to the British accents of people. I still miss the accent of the people from New Jersey though. Another person pushed me and I landed onto someone again. What the hell? “Oops.” I heard the person say as he placed his hands on my shoulders. “Are you alright?” I narrowed my eyes when I realized that I bumped into the same person once more. I faced him and almost fainted when I saw the hottie Gillain and Liz were talking about in front of me. Damn. His face seriously didn’t look this good from afar. “I…I’m…I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” I stuttered. He smiled and nodded. “It’s fine.” He replied. “Haven’t seen you around here,” he said. I smiled. “I…my friends and I don’t really party.” I replied back, trying to focus my brain into speaking and not into spacing out at this beautiful creature. “You’re American?” He asked. I nodded. “I thought so. It’s because of your accent.” He smiled again and his dimples came out. I opened my eyes as I remembered tidbits of what happened last night. The hottie…tequila…dancing…damn! I continued to shake my head in disbelief. “You have got to be wrong about this, Mr. Gregor. I am not married to anyone.” I said and it was supposed to make him believe me, but why did I sound like I was making myself believe my words? Mr. Gregor smiled at me. “I know that this took you by a little surprise—” “A little? No! This is a LOT of surprise for me!” I exclaimed at him. I am already freaking out. “Tell me. This is a prank right? There’s actually a hidden camera around here.” I said as I tried to search for a freaking hidden camera. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it! I have already cussed every curse I know in my head as I paced back and forth, starting to think of a way out of this. How? Come on, Samantha! Think! “Your Majesty, the Prince and the rest of the Royal Family are waiting for you in the Palace.” He said calmly. I looked at him in disbelief, in despair, in anguish…I don’t even know what I am feeling now anymore. “Look, Mr. Gregor, I don’t have an idea of what you are talking about. I don’t even know if this…marriage contract…is valid or not.” I told him, trembling for some unknown reason. Mr. Gregor smiled. “That is valid, your Majesty.” He said in a certain way that makes me tremble even more. “The Judge who presided your wedding is the King’s most trusted in the kingdom.” Wow. Like that helped me feel better right now? It just made me feel a lot more agitated! I was chuckling weakly and shaking my head. “There has to be a mistake.” I insisted. “I am not married with someone else. I just finished my college exams!” He narrowed his eyes at me. “How old are you, if I may ask?” “Twenty-three.” I replied. “Legal.” He said. “And that just makes this marriage valid.” My jaw dropped at what he said. Can he not see how freaked out I am right now? I am married and I didn’t even remember how we got married. Holy crap! Did he kiss me?! Damn! No! That can’t happen. I shook my head once more. Oh, freak! The more I think about it, the more it gets complicated. The more I think about it, the more obscure thoughts enter my mind. It’s making me crazy! “I know you have a lot of questions right now, but if only you would come with me, your questions will be answered.” Mr. Gregor told me. I looked at him, now somehow interested in meeting the mighty prince of Louxuria…that I just married…last night…without me knowing… “Will you come with me, your Majesty?” Mr. Gregor asked once again and there I decided to finally face this fear and get all my questions answered.
