Mercer
I felt a shift between Priya and I. For the first time since I’ve known her, she’s warming up to me. At least, that’s what I want to believe. It’s been almost three weeks now. She stopped trying to hurt herself and escape, but I had to be sure she wouldn’t try to attack my people the moment she could shift. I wanted to trust her, but everything in me told me not to be fooled. To be sure of her affections, I was planning on testing her thoroughly. I’d gotten word from one of my pack members that a boat was spotted ten miles out. A boat that wasn’t ours. It wasn’t on the shore of the main island, but it was a cause for concern. Living in an Archipelago, we had to send people out to monitor the surrounding sea. There hasn’t been a security breach since I’ve been Alpha. If it was a rescue party for Priya, this was the perfect opportunity to see what she would do.
“Mercer, are you really intending on going to war for that girl?” Olivia asked, tracing my abs with the tip of her fingers.
She crawled into my bed early this morning. We weren’t together romantically, but we did sleep together often. My heart was with Priya without a doubt. Unless she wanted all of me, s*x was fair game. She had to know I wasn’t celibate. I hoped she was jealous, that would let me know that she at least felt something for me.
“We talked about this Olivia. Priya is the legendary Red Wolf, not some ordinary girl.” I sighed.
“I’m sorry. I just don’t want our pack to suffer losses because of this. If she really does become our Luna, will we have to stop having s*x?” She raised her head up from my chest, her green eyes filled with concern.
I slipped my fingers into her sandy brown tresses and massaged her scalp.
“It would be best if we did. I don’t think Priya is the sharing type.”
“How sad for you then.” Olivia smirked.
She started sliding down the length of my body, putting the teal colored sheet over her head. I felt myself getting hard as she trailed wet kisses down my shaft. I laid my head back down against the pillows, closing my eyes. I felt her warm, wet mouth suck me in slowly. My lips parted with a deep moan as she took more of me into her mouth. As she sucked, her tongue circled the head eagerly.
There was a sudden knock on the door. I put my right hand on top of Olivia’s head to let her know she didn’t need to stop. I knew who it was, I could smell her.
“Come in.” I half moaned.
I turned my head towards the door and watched it slowly open. She started to step inside the room, still in her long sleep shirt. When I saw the realization of what was going on in her eyes, I fought like hell not to grin. She was shocked, but I could also sense just the faintest bit of jealousy.
“What the hell?! You should’ve said you were busy!” Priya shouted before quickly stepping back out.
She closed the door firmly and I let go of Olivia’s head. She continued until I filled her mouth and she drank me down like warm milk. I lifted the sheet and watched her move back up the length of my body, smiling.
“Did you catch a whiff of that? Not only was she the tiniest bit jealous, she was aroused by the sight of you.” Olivia said, looking down at me. I reached my fingers up to her chin, stroking her gently.
“That’s all I need. I can work with that much.” I kissed her neck then.
“Where does that leave us? Is this the last time we can be together?” She asked, sounding very disappointed.
“We can still have fun for now. When she willingly comes to me, then this will have to end. There can’t be any resentment towards her. Do you understand?”
She nodded.
“I could never be possessive like that. Don’t worry.”
“Good girl.” I murmured.
Olivia chose to stay in bed and sleep. I got up and showered, brushed my teeth. I put on a solid black t shirt and a pair of grey sweatpants. Everything seemed to be calm, nothing out of the ordinary so far. I entered the kitchen and found Priya sitting on a stool beside the kitchen island. I could smell freshly brewed coffee and Irish creamer. She didn’t acknowledge my presence as I walked around to the other side of the kitchen island. I took a seat across from her, resting my arms on the marble surface. She stared at me, seemingly annoyed.
“Was there something you needed to talk to me about?”
“Can you stop playing mind games with me and quit pumping me full of Wolfsbane? I haven’t done anything wrong.” She said, frowning.
“Not lately. How can I be sure you won’t do something crazy again?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.
“You can’t. I guess you’ll just have to trust me.”
“Until you earn my trust, I’m afraid I can’t do that. I know there’s still a part of you holding onto the hope you can escape. That alone makes me unable to trust you.”
She looked away from me, taking a long drink of her coffee.
“Well, you’re right about that. I wish you would be a little more reasonable. You and I both know that even if I made it to a boat, I wouldn’t be able to navigate the seas alone. Also, even in my wolf form I couldn’t simply swim back to Dawnshire. It’s hundreds of miles away.”
“At least you have the common sense not to attempt such a thing. I’ll think about it, that’s all I can say for now.” I sighed.
She was homesick, I understood that. What she really missed was her boyfriend. It infuriated me to no end knowing that Gracian had rooted himself so deeply into her heart. I’ve managed to seep in just a little from what I could tell. I wanted to comfort her in every way possible, hold her in my arms and give her all of the love & affection I’d been holding in. But first, I had to shatter any delusions she may have of ever seeing that asshole again.
“You still haven’t told me if Gracian and the others are alive. At least tell me that much.” Priya pleaded.
“I didn’t feel the need to mention a dead man. He was shot multiple times with Wolfsbane laced silver ammo. I doubt he survived that, much less anyone else.”
I watched her eyes slowly fill with tears. She started shaking her head over and over in disbelief.
“You’e lying. You’re a liar!” She cried.
“If you recall, Gracian’s blood was all over my clothes. Seeing as I’m the one who shot him at close range, wouldn’t I know better than anyone that he died?”
The color seemed to drain from her face as she got up from her seat. She was unsteady on her feet, her hand was holding onto the countertop.
“My father was right to push me and Gray together. He tried to warn me about you. He’d told me that you were impulsive, unpredictable, particularly callous. Even if you keep me here for the rest of my life, I’ll never forgive you!” She screamed at me.
I got up from my seat and approached her slowly. The seething rage in her ruby eyes only ignited my passion for her more.
“Hatred and love are two sides of the same sword. You might feel nothing but pain and anger towards me right now, but that isn’t what I sensed from you earlier. Jealousy and lust wouldn’t be possible without some slivers of feelings for me.”
I was standing only a couple of feet away from her now. I could hear her heart fluttering in her chest like a trapped humming bird.
“You’re delusional! After all that you’ve done? How could I ever have feelings for you?!” She shouted.
I closed the distance between us and she started slamming her fists against my chest as hard as she could.
“I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! YOU DEMON!” She cried, repeatedly striking me.
She raised her arm to try and punch me in the face but I caught her by the wrist. Taking hold of her other hand before she could do it again, I pulled her against me and held her tightly. Priya completely broke down in my arms. My shirt was damp with her tears after a while. To be the cause of her pain brought me no pleasure. However, just be able to hold her in this moment brought me so much joy.
“I’m sorry, Priya. I never meant for things to end up like this. Scream at me, bruise me, do whatever you need to if it eases your suffering. I don’t expect you to forgive me. That’s only what I deserve.”
She continued crying and trying to pull away, but I held her firmly.
“Let me go! How dare you even touch me!” She cried, frustrated.
“As long as I live, I will never let you go Priya. You were always meant to be my Luna. No matter how long it takes, I’ll wait for you to come to me willingly.” I whispered.
She raised her head up to look at me then.
“That’ll never happen Mercer.” She hissed.
I heard footsteps heading towards the kitchen. Tony soon entered the kitchen. When he saw Priya and I, he suddenly looked nervous.
“Alpha, sorry to interrupt you but I have a report.” He said looking away from us.
I had a feeling what this was about. I wasn’t ready to let Priya know what was happening yet.
“Take her to her room, then report to me. Have someone stand guard. Tell Olivia to see to her needs.” I commanded. Tony gave me a firm nod before I finally released Priya from my embrace.
Without a word, she walked out of the kitchen. Tony quickly followed her out.
When he returned, we went to speak in the den instead. I sat in the rocking recliner near the fireplace and he sat on the couch across from me.
“The boat we saw last night wasn’t the only one. Our watchmen on the other islands spotted three others.” He said.
“Four of them? Do you know who it is yet?”
“Not yet. No one has tried to come to shore yet. I can’t figure out what they’re waiting for.” Tony shook his head perplexed.
It had to be the Red Eye pack and their allies. f**k me. If they were here, I had to make sure Gracian was dead. I assumed he died of is his injuries but, if I was wrong…
“Tell the watchmen to have the islands go on lockdown. Everyone needs to prepare for an attack. Make sure Priya doesn’t leave that room under any circumstances.” I said, standing up from the chair. Tony stood up before giving bowing.
“Yes Alpha, I’ll make the necessary preparations.” He said before leaving the room.
I clenched my fists. I dreaded this moment but I knew it was inevitable.
Two hours later, the pack assembled on the beaches of the main island. I stood on the frontlines with them, ready shift. Some of us held guns like before, but this time we were ready to fight as wolves as well. The other three boats had settled ten miles back while the first boat was close enough for it’s passengers to come ashore. I didn’t recognize some of them standing at the front of the boat. That is, until one of them came forward. My eyes widened briefly. That boiling anger came rising to the surface again. Gracian. That son of a b***h was still alive after all.
“To trespass here means to die here! Turn back if you value your lives!” I asserted. Gracian smirked deviously.
“You have someone that doesn’t belong to your pack, Mercer. Whether you return Priya willingly or fight for your lives, doesn’t matter to me.” Gracian proclaimed.
“She may be part of your pack, but she doesn’t belong to you! Warrick’s death doesn’t nullify our agreement!”
“I should’ve known you’d be stubborn until the bitter end. Fine by me.” He said.
Suddenly, sounds of splashing could be heard in the distance. The other boat inhabitants were heading our way. Gracian and those on the boat with him began undressing and shifting. I didn’t care who he came with, I was going to bury him this time.
