I slept for what felt like weeks. Having two near death experiences in one year was enough for a lifetime. My eyes opened slowly, they felt so damned dry. It felt like I got ran over by a train, so I didn’t attempt to sit up. I looked over to the right side of the bed to see Priya sleeping peacefully next to me. She was halfway under the blanket with me, but I could see that she was nude. Her body felt so warm against mine. I yearned to feel her beside me again, to smell her sweet scent seeping into the bedding. I was eternally grateful that I’d lived to see a moment like this again. We got her back. The cost? I wasn’t sure yet.
