Chapter Seven

Attica and Jasper walked into the conference room and greeted Mr. Baker and the corporate attorney. They all sat down around the conference table with the contracts sitting on the table in front of each of them. Attica was worried and stressed not know what this contract was going to say. All she knew was the everything in her life that she worked hard for was about to be taken from her by this contract.

Mr. Baker spoke first breaking the silence, "Attica, I love you very much. I know that you are upset with me right now due to you feel that this is not right. But Jasper and I worked on this contract over the weekend to make the best decision for you as well as this company. We want the best for you, and we are so happy for you to have Jasper in your life. I hope that you will say yes to him and marry him. I wish you will follow out my wishes in hopes that I will have a grandchild before I pass." Attica looked at her father. She nodded. She didn't know what else to say to him.

Jasper spoke up. "Mr. Baker, as of this morning, your daughter and I are officially engaged to be married." Mr. Baker was excited. He smiled and said "This is the most wonderful news you both can give me. I want to officially welcome you to the family, Jasper. I look forward to you being my future son-in-law. I hope that you both will be very happy and that we can have a grandchild soon." Attica looked at her father. "We will not be having any children until we are married. I do not know how long you have father, but I hope that we will be able to provide you with your wishes of one before you pass."

They all were silent again. This is when the corporate attorney had spoken up. "Please read the contract and ask any questions that you may have so we can get this contract signed and enforced as soon as possible." That was when Attica got very nervous again. What could Jasper and her father discussed this weekend and decided with the contract to benefit her? She took a deep breath, look down at the contract and started to read it.

"This is the contract in the event of Mr. Dolthan Baker, sole owner of Baker Enterprises. The joint parties involved are Attica Baker and Jasper Adams. This contract states that on Friday at midnight Mr. Baker will be retired and the new owner will take over and enforce the company. The sole owner being pointer to Baker Enterprises is Jasper Adams. In the event that Mr. Adams marries Attica Baker, they will be co-owners of the company. Ms. Baker will be in charge of her current responsibilities and will be the CEO of the company until another contract is created, or she retires. Mr. Adams will be in charge of all the other responsibilities but cannot make any decisions without the legal counsel of the company attorney and/or Ms. Baker.

In the event that Mr. Adams and Ms. Baker has a child or children, they will be next in line to own the company when they reach the age to do it or when another contract is reached. The company is not allowed to be sold or ever in the hands of anyone other than family. If this happens, this contract becomes voided, and the sole owner goes back to Mr. Baker until another contract is reached. If Mr. Adams or Ms. Baker ends up divorcing within 10 years and there are no heirs, the company will go to the sole owner of Attica Baker."

Attica gasped. She could not believe that her father would allow her to have sole ownership of the company or even co-ownership. Jasper must have had something to do with this contract. She looked at her father and then at Jasper. Everyone sat there in silence. Attica spoke, "Father, you are allowing me to be co-owners with Jasper of the company? And if we do divorce, you will allow me to take the company over? Why the change of heart?" Her father looked at her and said, "Of course I do not believe that you both would divorce because I see the love you to hold for each other so I believe that you both would be together for years. But this is just a precaution. Also, Jasper and I discussed this contract, and he was right. You are the CEO of the company and the one that has been having it run since you started here. This is your life, and I should not take it away due to you being a woman. I just wanted you to have more to life than just work. I have missed so much in life by just working and was not there for you as much as I wanted to be there. I do not want you to make the same mistake I did. I want you to have a life."

Attica thought for a second. She now realized what her father was trying to tell her. He is dying of cancer, and he has done nothing in his life except work. He has missed so much in her life as she grew up and so him wanting her not to be life him made sense. She also knew from what she had experience whether it was a dream or whatever it was, she knew what she wanted in life and what she didn't want. She wanted to be happy. She wanted her children and her Jasper. She was going to work but she was also going to cut back on how much she did so she could enjoy her life. "I understand father and I will not let you down. Thank you for everything you have done for me and in my life. I love you." The corporate attorney spoke up next, "Do we have any questions about the contract? Or are there any changes that you would like to be made before it is signed?"

Her father then spoke up, "Actually I do want the change made that both Jasper and Attica are co-owners regardless of if they are married or not. I do not want this to be a reason for them to get married. I wanted them to marry for love and not for the company. "

Attica and Jasper looked at each other. Jasper spoke, "Mr. Baker, I believe that I speak for both Attica and myself when I say that we are in love, and we will never marry for the company. We both will work together for this company and our love is not going to change the fact of us working together for the company. We love each other and if we decide to go our other ways, we will not marry just so we can run this company. We would not do that to ourselves."

Attica spoke next, "Father, I think the contract is fine the way that it is. Jasper and I have already agreed to run the company together so this will not change. And in the event that we do break up we will come to another contract if we need to, but we will not marry each other just for the company. I will not life miserable nor with Jasper just so I can have co-ownership." Her father looked at her and then nodded to the attorney, "This contract is fine and so we will all sign it. Thank you so much for your time here and I will get these copies to you in about 30 minutes." The attorney nodded and walked out of the room. Everyone signed the contract. They all got up and left the room.

Attica was so relieved to have gotten through that and that her father's view was changed due to her love, Jasper. She was starting to see that she had made the right decision in life to be with Jasper and to give him the change to be the love of her life. She wanted to give him something special for it and she knew exactly what she was going to do. She was going to give herself to him tonight. She was going to let him sleep over with her. She didn't care if they were married or not. He had proved to her that he was Her's forever. So now she wanted to show him that she was his'. She wanted to start their lives together and she wanted her children. So why not start their lives together now. Maybe Jasper would be okay with it. She was hoping.
