Chapter Twelve

Three months go by, and Attica is sitting in the doctor's office for her ultrasound and checkup. Jasper has been working so much that he has missed all the appointments so far. He promised Attica that he would be there for this one. Attica's phone rings. It's Jasper. She answers it. "Hello baby, are you on your way?" "Attica love, I am so sorry but I have an emergency meeting that I half to be at so I will not be able to make it but I have some time that you can video chat me so I can see from the video. I know that I promised you that I would be there, but you know how the job goes." Attica sighs. "Okay Jasper, I will try. But this is the time to find out the s*x of the baby. But I have planned a gender reveal party this Saturday so you half to be there." "Okay love I will. I am off Saturday, and I am not going to miss it this time. I love you." "I love you. Bye babe. I will call you back when I am in there." Attica hangs up the phone. She knew he was going to break his promise. That is how it's been the last few months.

Attica's name is called, and she walks back to the ultrasound room. "Good morning, Ms. Baker. How are we doing today?" "I am doing good. My fiancé couldn't make it today, but he was wondering if I could video chat him when you do the ultrasound." "Of course, Ms. Baker. Let's get started." Attica sits on the bed and pulls her shirt up. The lady puts the jelly on her stomach. Attica video chats Jasper. He answers. He hears the heartbeat for the first time. "Is that the heartbeat?" "Yes sir, that is your baby's heartbeat." He sees in the video the baby and he watches ecstatically. "Would you both like to know the s*x of the baby?" "No, we are doing a gender reveal this Saturday so we will find out together then." Attica states. The lady nods and checks and measures everything. "Your baby is healthy and growing normally. I will print you out some pictures of it and I will put the s*x in an envelope for you to use for your party. Congrats to you both on a healthy baby." Jasper ends the call. The lady cleans off the jelly and then leads Attica to the doctor's room to see the doctor.

The doctor comes in and says, "Hello Ms. Baker, how are you doing today?" "I'm doing good." The doctor looks over the results and ultrasound pictures. "Your baby looks good and healthy. Your blood work and urine looks good. You are growing normally and healthy. Your baby's heartbeat is a little low but not uncommon. Have you been under a little stress?" "Yes, but not too much that is not normal. It's just work." Attica responds. The doctor nods. "Okay well I will see you back in another month. Try to not stress too much because that stress is being put on your baby." "Okay thanks." Attica turns and walks out. She makes her appointment. She has the pictures from the ultrasound and the envelope for the gender of the baby. She then leaves the doctors and heads to her parents' house.

Attica knocks on the door. Her mother answers. "Attica dear, what a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting you. Is everything okay?" "Yes mom, I just would like to talk to you and father about something." Her mother has concern on her face. They both go to the living room and sit down. "Attica, is the party still on for Saturday? You father is excited about it. I do not understand why we are having a party, but I know that you will let the cat out of the bag when it comes." "Attica gives her an envelope that has the baby's s*x in it. "Can you take this to the bakery to get this taken care of for Saturday please?" "Of course, dear. May I ask what it is?" It has the instructions of what type of cake to have at the party. The baker already knows." Attica kisses her mom on the forehead and heads upstairs to her father's room.

Attica knocks on the door and then opens it to come inside. "Attica honey, what a pleasant surprise. Is everything okay?" Her father looks at her and speaks. "Yes father, everything is fine. I just wanted to stop by and see how you were doing." "I am doing good. I am looking forward to Saturday to find out what my grandchild is going to be. I have not told anyone like you have asked." "Thank you, father. I actually came to talk to you about something. It's about Jasper. I am worried that he is going to end up like you with missing everything and doing nothing but work. I know he has to work but he has missed all my appointments so far and I am afraid he is going to miss Saturday. I just don't know what to do because I don't want him to regret missing everything like you did. What do I do? Can you maybe talk to him?" Her father is concerned with Attica. "Attica honey, I will talk to him on Saturday. But just because he misses a few appointments doesn't mean that he is not going to be there for the birth of the baby. He is not like me. He is not going to work his life away and miss anything from his family. I promise you that. But I will talk to him. Just please don't worry. it's not good for the baby or yourself." "Okay father. Thank you. I know that I shouldn't be worrying you with this because you have enough to worry about. I love you." "I love you too honey. Now, go home and rest. Take care of yourself and my grandchild. I will see you Saturday." Attica kisses her father on the forehead and then leaves.

Maybe father is right. I should not worry. Attica thinks about it all and then heads home. She has a lot to plan and get ready for Saturday and also in 2 months, their wedding. Jasper and she have a lot going on right now so maybe that is the reason Jasper is working so hard now because he is going to half to take off work for their honeymoon and the birth of their child. Then he's going to half to cover for her while she is out of work as well. She then understood everything that was going on. She had an ideal and she is going to discuss it with Jasper when she gets home.
