Chapter 3: My betrayal

“What the hell is this?” I gasped as they turned to see me. Christian stands from his chair shocked and pissed to see me, Victoria however grins. “Anka, why are you here? I told Daniel I would talk to you at home.” His voice is cool and calm. “Christian… What…Is….THIS?” I struggle to control my voice. “We can discuss this at home, please go and don’t make a scene.” He starts moving to me, putting himself between me and Victoria. “A scene. Chris…” I pause and look directly at Victoria. “What the hell is going on?” I use my Luna voice on her so loudly and full of force that shakes the room. Christian stiffens as he knows she can not resist my command but before he can try to overdrive me, she gladly blurts out. “Christian is going to dump you and make me his new Luna. He is going to reject you today in front of the pack.” Victoria begins to laugh in my face but quickly stops as Christian shoots her an angry look.

Shock hits me as this new information comes to light. “Christian,” I gasped, “is this true? You're going to reject me?” My breathing becomes erratic as anguish begins to take me. Lyra is howling to shadow trying to call to him. He won’t talk to me. Shadow is ignoring me. Lyra Whispers. “Anka, I wanted to wait until I could talk to you back at the house but I guess now will have to happen.” He sighs, combing his hand through his hair. “Anka, we made a mistake, I made a mistake. You just weren’t made to be a Luna. Your lack of confidence and strength to help lead this pack and it shows weakness to others. Victoria has grace, family, wealth, and an understanding of high society.” I flinch at his harsh words, each one a stab to the heart. “Go home and we will discuss any arrangements later tonight.” Christian calming states as he moves to open the door for me to leave. I’m shocked stiff, I feel like my life is crashing down around me.

“ANKA! NOW!” He shouts, shocking me out of a trance. I turn to him and stand right in front of him, staring him right in the eyes. We stared at each other for what felt like ages as I searched his eyes for any sign of falter but his cool blue eyes were solid and determined. I close my eyes as I listen to my heart break. Without another word I walk out, I need to get out of here before I finally break. I don’t stop until I go straight into the car and peel out of the parking lot. I speed out of the city heading straight for the pack. He is leaving me, he is actually picking Victoria over his own mate. Lyra is going crazy in my mind, she wants out, begging to take control. “Wait please. Let me get to the ruby pack territory first.” I try to compromise with her as I try to focus on the winding road. Anka I need out. I can't take this anymore. Shadow had accepted Christian decision. She wailed in my head, pushing forward in my mind.

I was half way home just on the outskirts of crescent moon territory. I pull over on the side of the road and quickly jump out of the car running into the nearest forest. I don’t get far until Lyra pushes forward and howls the loudest I have ever heard. She continues to howl her pain into the sky. The loss of her pups, the love of her life, her mate, and her family. She howls until my throat is stressed and in pain. I pant gasping for oxygen as a panic attack comes crashing down. I start to wail, falling to my knees. He doesn’t love me anymore, I gave up so much to make him happy and he doesn’t love me anymore. My phone in my pocket rings, I quickly look to see who it is. Cassie, not Christian. I take a few deep breaths to calm myself down and answer the call.

“Cassie, is there anything new?” I asked, clearing my throat as I tried to regain my composure. “What happened? Were you crying?” Cassie shouts on the phone. I began to move back to the car. I need to get out of here before anybody from the crescent pack finds me crying in their territory. “Cassie I don’t want to talk about it right now, distract me. Was there anything new?” I repeat, getting more agitated as I see my car in the distance. Cassie sighs “Wolfsbane and something else, I haven’t found out the other half yet. I’m still running the tests. The wolfsbane must have been to prevent your wolf from sensing your pup was in danger.” Before I could respond, I heard a loud engine noise from behind me. It was at this moment where it felt that time moved in slow motion. As I turned to look behind me I noticed a car speed straight towards me. The man in the car looks me in the eye with resolve and malice.

“No!” I scream as the car hits me full on, my body tumbling over the car. I lay on the ground gasping for air, pain spreading everywhere. I stare at the black corvette as it has stopped. For a second I thought it was going to reverse to hit me again but I heard movement in the trees. As the car takes off speeding in the distance, I try to remember if I have seen it before. I faintly hear my name being yelled over and over again, Cassie was still on the phone when I was hit. “Cassie… WLF88… bla…” I choke out, I’m struggling to breathe. My vision is beginning to blur as I see a group of men running to me. One notices the phone still in my hand and picks it up speaking to Cassie. “ Ma'am, stay with me, help is on the way.” One of the men speaks to me as the other runs to my car. “John, the woman on the phone says that she is the Luna of the ruby pack, Luna Anka. Quickly let's move her to the car. We need to take her to the pack hospital. Charles mindlink alpha so he can notify the Alpha so we can have permission to enter.” The guy on my phone yells to the other.

Shock flashes on their faces as the one named John gently lifts me from the ground and moves quickly to the car. “Tom, open the door,” John barks. My vision is starting to fade as a numbness spreads throughout my body. “Luna, please stay with us,” John's voice starts to become faint. I try really hard to stay conscious. “ W…L…F…8…8” I chant in my mind. “Do you hear that?” Tom says, with a surprised tone in his voice. “Yeah… is that the Luna?” John commits as he gets in the back seat with me. “I’m Anka. The…car…W..L…F…8…8” I mind link again, I feel my mind becoming fuzzy. “Luna Anka we are almost there. Our Alpha called ahead and they are ready for you just hang on.” John's voice is frantically trying to keep me awake. “Thank you… Stay…” He holds my hand as the darkness pulls me under.
