Ascension

"Ugh... smells really bad..." I groaned before whispering under my breath out of annoyance. I never liked the realm of humans, of these petty creatures whose desires are more important than their needs. The selfish creatures that would do anything for power, money, and comfort. Yet their souls are precious and it's what we have been battling over since the beginning of time. I wasn't there when then there was light in the darkness but it's clear that the dark came first. It's logically the first to existence - darkness. Evil was born alongside good. But humans are feeble and ambitious, it turned them against God yet, their souls are still so precious that they started a war over it. And now, I'm bothered by my old man to help him with gaining all of humanity's soul. Apparently, he thought that the more soul you got, the more bragging rights you have and what makes him all-powerful beyond God as what he's always dreamed of because God's precious children are all for his torturing. What else can my old man bother me about? I never wanted to ascend up here but he cast me out of hell like a dog. I wasn't like my father. If I can leave humans alone, I would and go further down as possible for they disgust me. All these fusses for human souls... I've ascended into this place where I saw the cross. The plate where the Son of God was slaughtered. Out of all the places for me to see for the first time in centuries, why the church? And at the altar. But I stared at him, the Son which is quite my opposite. I would never sacrifice myself for the good of humanity that never understood the worth of second chance. Now they have a 3rd chance since the All Father sent an angel that I have to take care of. "Pssshhh..." I rolled my eyes at Him and turn my back. "So much for your sacrifice. They wasted their chance. Now your dad intervenes when their souls are almost ours. That's enough proof humans are just evil. Why can't you just let it go?... and seriously, father's needs to stop sending sons to do their work..."  As I walked down the altar, I immediately noticed a presence. From the cross to the darkness of the whole place and with every statue that humans worship and across the seats,  I sensed it - a kind of being that's not supposed to be here - disgustingly holy. It's divinity, an angel. My eyes darted behind a statue where he then crept out slowly. "You have come for the boy haven't you?" He asked, walking towards the aisle. "I have come for no one, I'm just simply... hungry," I smiled; continue walking my way in the middle of the aisle where I knew our paths would cross. He knew why I was her yet he still needed to ask... Why am I not surprised on these being's stupidity? "You, out of all the princes of darkness to choose from, he chose you? Is your father threatened he'll fail?" He teased with a smirk on his lips. With just one darting look at this small angel who looked like a beagle despite wearing human clothes, he immediately changed his form - flashing his bright wings, revealing his shiny armor before unsheathing his sword in defense. However, chuckles escape my lips. Is this Michael? The angel who smite my old man? "Ahhh... so you're Michael? You defeated Lucifer, right? Tell me, Michael. Between the two of us, am I the one who looked threatened? I don't even have a blade with me. " I asked as I continued to stride. "You, when you ascend, there are only deaths." He snarled. "Well... that and another thing. " I chuckled with a wide smile as I waved my hand while I continued to walk. "I can't let you walk the earth again!" His teeth gritted. But instead of engaging, I passed by him by just to taunt him. "I'll cast you down to hell just like your father!" He proclaimed his battle cry out loud accompanied by thundering footsteps that seem to shake the earth as he ran to attack. "Cast me down? Give it a try then..." I chuckled with a smirk on my face as I turn my head over my shoulders. Suddenly, a bright light engulfed him. I was already warming up my hand with the hell's fire, ready to strike in defense but someones seem to be stopping him. "Father?" He called out, looking up, And in a blink of an eye, he vanished as if the light had devoured him. I shook my head while scoffing at the pathetic angel who was all talk. His dad even saved him. I can't believe he's the angel that leads His army. After I stepped out of the church, I immediately sniffed the human stench and this realm is so full of it. Maybe this is why my father chose me because the earth is overly populated nowadays and death is my weapon. I am the demon that brings plague to men; deaths follow me with every step. Humans may be disgusting but a few of these creatures' scent is sweet. I've craved for their blood ever since my old man brought a human sacrifice to hell - a virgin whose blood is the sweetest and I could still taste that saccharine blood. I roamed around in this crowded city, somehow in awe of the changes I'm witnessing. Back in the old times, everyone is in bed when the darkness had taken over the sky. People are scared of what's in the dark but the people at this time stay up late. I've been hibernating for too long. However, I sensed another angel nearby and not just an ordinary angel. And like the first I've encountered, this one also emits that aura of an arch. Are they all threatened I'm here? I slowly turned on a dark corner to see him and get this over with, but before I was able to see where he is, his aura vanished. However, there was a girl who was just standing in the middle of the dark alley. She just stood there for a while before walking ahead. Was the angel with her just now? I decided to follow her. At the end of the street, on a lamppost, she stopped.  "Why are you following me?" She asked before turning around. The aura that reeks with divinity still lingers with her. The angel was definitely with her, but I don't see anything special apart from her sweet, sweet smell. She's an ordinary human. Ordinary yet, her scent is something else. I felt my throat dried up as I stare her form, still savoring her sweetness. She's beautiful for a human, but there's nothing more to her than that of her sweet blood that runs to her veins. I'm incredibly hungry. "You're accusing me of following you... haven't you thought that I may be going in the same direction as you?" I asked sarcastically and smirked as I continued to walk and stop in front of her. "So why do you stop now?" She asked as she looks up to me. She kept eye contact that no human had ever done. No human could hold a stare, especially in my eyes.   "I sensed an angel..." I replied in all honesty, "and you smell good." I added smiling down at her. Her brows furrow tight after my remark. I've decided.   I'll stick with this girl. Angels do not linger on earth for long that the aura stays especially with a human. This means she was blessed. She may not be special to look at but, there's something else.  Why would an archangel bless this human?
