CHAPTER ONE
Sienna~
“Where’s Adrian?!” My voice was already hoarse from hours of screaming as another contraction hit me. I grabbed the sheets tight until my knuckles turned white. “Please… someone get him! I can’t do this without him!”
This was supposed to be our big day. Our mating ceremony. My coronation. The moment we’d finally be crowned together. But twenty minutes into our vows, the pain had started and my water broke.
My best friend, Brielle, was the only thing keeping me from falling apart. She held my hand and brushed the hair off my face. “It’s okay, Sienna. Just Breathe,” she whispered, but even she sounded scared.
The midwives kept exchanging looks, whispering to each other as they avoided meeting my eyes. Something wasn't right.
Another contraction hit and I screamed into the pillow, biting down until I tasted blood. My entire body shook. The worst part wasn’t even the pain, it was the empty space where Adrian should have been.
“Why isn’t he here?” I sobbed. “Didn’t anyone tell him the baby is coming?”
Brielle hesitated, twisting her fingers nervously. “He’s… performing the coronation rites.”
My screaming stopped and everything went quiet. For a moment, I just stared at her.
“What?” I whispered. “What did you just say?”
“Brielle…”.
“That’s… that’s my ceremony,” I said weakly as I tried to push myself up. “No… he wouldn’t do that. He couldn’t.” My voice cracked.
Brielle gently pushed me back. “Sienna, please stay down. You’ll hurt yourself. You’re already mated, so they knew it wouldn’t change anything. That’s why they went on without you. You’ll still be Luna when it’s done.”
Her words stung. “Doesn’t change anything”? It changed everything. That was father’s throne, my birthright, taken while I lay bleeding, begging for the man who had sworn to stand by me.
Tears blurred my vision as I shook my head. “He wouldn’t do that to me,” I repeated to myself. “There has to be a reason.”
Brielle squeezed my hand weakly. “Of course. He loves you. Just breathe.”
“Luna, there’s a problem,” the doctor called my attention. “It’s taking too long. Your wolf is weakening. If we don’t act fast, you could lose her.”
My heart dropped. Losing Mara meant losing half of myself.
“Do whatever you need to save my baby,” I whispered.
She gave a girl nod before injecting something into my arm. The pain doubled so fast it stole the air from my lungs.
“Please…” I cried. “Get Adrian… please…”
Brielle stood. “I’ll go. I’ll bring him myself.” She ran out.
Then, through the blinding pain, I heard a baby’s cry.
“A boy,” the doctor said, placing the small, warm bundle in my arms.
But before I could catch my breath, another wave of pain hit, worse than the first. “There’s another,” She gasped, her eyes wide. “You’re having twins.”
A sharp gasp escaped me as the pain in my stomach moved up to my chest. I could feel my wolf fading with every breath, slipping away from me. With her, a part of me felt gone too.
“It’s a girl!” They yelled in joy.
They placed her beside her brother. They were so small. So perfect. Even with my body shaking and my wolf gone, my heart ached just looking at their tiny chests rising and falling against me.
Then the door slammed open and suddenly, everywhere went silent.
Adrian stood there in a red cloak, holding the Alpha’s coronation mantle. My chest tightened.
His nose twisted with disgust at the sight of me as his dark eyes scanned the scene with a cold detachment.
I smiled weakly anyway. “They’re here, Adrian… our children. Aren't they beautiful?”
For a moment, it was just us. Nothing else mattered, not the ceremony he’d gone through without me, not the lingering pain that spread from my loins to my abdomen. Just the four of us.
“Doctor,” he said firmly, ignoring me. “Bring me my heirs.”
The doctor hesitated, and my heart sank as she gently took them from my arms and handed them over.
I struggled to sit up. “Adrian, please… will you mark me now? My wolf, she’s gone. You can revive her before it's too late.”
But Adrian just shakes his head.
“Wolfless humans have no business with marks. You are weak, Sienna. I deserve better.”
For a second, I froze, wondering if I’d heard him correctly. There was no way I had. My heart was pounding so loud it drowned out everything else.
“Adrian…” My voice cracked. “You can’t mean that. After everything I’ve been through for you...”
My heart sank. I could see the hunger for power in his eyes as he held the babies who were supposed to bring us together, while I lay there like some stranger watching from the corner.
His eyes fell on my dejected state, his gaze filled with scorn.
“I, Adrian Carver, reject you, Sienna Rivenhall as my mate and Luna forever.” he said coldly, then turned to his guards. “Take her.”
