"Nic, please listen to me. This isn’t what it looks like. He-" I attempted to speak the truth, but Nicholas cut me off before I could.
"What does it look like then? It clearly looks like you were w*****g yourself out tonight." he snapped furiously, veins bulging on his forehead.
I cringed at the sight of his anger. Throughout our entire year of marriage, I had never witnessed this side of him. It was as if he had turned into a completely different person.
"I swear to you, I didn’t do anything. I would never cheat on you with anyone. Please, you have to trust me." I implored, desperation evident in my voice.
"My Luna, I’m sorry but it’s low even for you to stand there and lie to our faces when the evidence is clearly right in front of us." Beta Caine chimed in, disappointment etched across his face.
"I-I didn’t have s*x with that man! I don’t even know who he was. He assaulted me, Nic. Please listen to me." I exclaimed, striving to convey the truth to them.
I didn't care much about Beta Caine's opinion; my sole concern was Nicholas. It hurt me to see that he wasn't even trying to empathize with me.
"It doesn’t look that way. You were clearly enjoying it. Look at it!" Nicholas said sternly as he advanced towards me.
His tall, imposing figure loomed over me, his eyes glaring at me with intense anger.
"I swear, I wasn’t. He tried to assault me but I fought him and he ran away." I revealed the harsh truth, hoping it would shed some light on their perspectives.
"Fine, my Luna. Let's assume that's the truth. But it still doesn't explain what you were doing at that hotel. Weren't you headed to your doctor's appointment?" Caine inquired with suspicion, leaving Nicholas also eager for my explanation.
"I was, but I received a text from Nic asking me to come to the hotel. I left for the hotel immediately after my appointment."
"A text? What text? I didn't send you anything," Nicholas said with a mix of confusion and disappointment.
My brows furrowed as I heard his words. How could he forget what he had told me just over an hour ago?
"You did! Here, I can show you," I exclaimed, retrieving my phone from my pocket and scrolling through my messages.
"It's... not there. I-I don't understand," I stuttered, unable to locate the message.
I couldn't understand it. I had seen the message with my own eyes outside the hospital. How could it have vanished?
"So, not only did you betray your own mate, my Luna, but you also attempted to make up terrible lies to save yourself from the consequences?" Caine scoffed, accusing me without mercy.
Tears threatened to escape my eyes as everything seemed to turn against me. No one believed a word I said, and it felt like the more I spoke, the less they trusted me.
I couldn't believe that my words had no impact on them at all. I had always been a loyal Luna, not only to Nicholas but to the entire pack.
I would never forsake the love of my life for a brief encounter with a stranger. I was being framed, and the worst part was that they believed it unquestioningly.
"No! No, I'm not. Please, Nicholas, if not anyone else, at least you can believe me, right? I'm carrying your pups, for goodness' sake." I said, clinging onto hope.
"You don't need to keep lying so shamelessly," he yelled, advancing toward me with deliberate steps.
My eyes continued to brim with tears, and my feet kept retreating as he drew nearer. Gradually, I felt the wall against my back, and I realized I was now cornered, with Nicholas looking down at me.
His anger was enough to send a shiver of fear down my spine. I had never felt this way around him before.
This side of him was typically reserved for rogues or the pack's enemies. He had never directed such anger at me throughout our year of marriage, until now.
"Nic... please," I implored, my helplessness evident in my tone.
"Tell me, Emily... How many more men are there in your life? Are those pups inside... even mine?" he inquired, driving a stake through my heart.
A lump lodged in my throat, and my trembling palms couldn't contain the tears that poured from my eyes. How could he say that? How could he even entertain such a thought?
My face flushed, and I struggled to breathe properly.
"Nic... What are you saying? These are your pups! I swear to the moon goddess," I said, gripping his hand with pleading eyes.
"Do you really think I can just believe whatever you say? You can't even explain the pictures you have right in your hands," he dismissed my grip with brute force, and his eyes were filled with nothing but disdain.
"You can think whatever you want about me, but please... don't say anything wrong about your pups. They are yours!" I summoned every ounce of my energy to impress the truth upon him.
"Prove it then," he said simply, remaining indifferent to my emotional turmoil.
"Let me do a DNA test. If I find out that they aren't mine and just some random scum's... I wouldn't want anything to do with them," he added before leaving the house with Caine, slamming the door behind them.
I was left in a state of shock, struggling to process what had just transpired.
My knees gave way, causing my body to slump toward the ground. I clutched my aching belly as I began to sob bitterly, the hurtful words of my mate echoing in my mind.
My entire marriage was unraveling, all because of manipulated pictures? It was all lies!
"Oh my god, Em. What happened?" I heard a concerned voice from the entrance of the house. It sounded familiar.
I raised my head, and through my tear-filled vision, I saw Chloe standing before me.
"Chloe, please tell him. Please tell him that I didn't do anything wrong," I cried out as Chloe tried to help me up from the floor.
"First, you should stop crying! I can't understand anything you're saying with all your mumbling," she said, grabbing a napkin from her purse and gently wiping my tear-stained face.
She settled me on the couch and handed me a warm cup of tea to sip on.
After explaining everything to her, she collected the scattered photos from the table.
"You're right, Em. These photos may look real, but only a fool would ever believe that you would do such a thing," Chloe commented, her gaze still fixed on the pictures.
"N-Nicholas believed them. He didn't even give me a chance to explain myself. He's even thinking that I'm pregnant with another man's pups!" I whimpered, the bitter truth weighing heavily on me.
Chloe gently took both of my hands after placing the tea cup on the table and locked her eyes with mine.
"He was shocked, Em. You need to give him some time... and I'm sure he will come around," she tried to console me, though my pain ran deep, and it wasn't so easily soothed.
My face remained clouded with sadness and despair. It felt like an insurmountable pit I had fallen into.
"He asked for DNA proof, right? You should give it to him. He'll soon realize he was a fool to ever doubt your loyalty to him," Chloe asserted with determination.
"You think so?"
"I know so, Em. Now please stop crying and give me a hug." She immediately enveloped me in her arms.
Chloe had been Nicholas' childhood friend, but after our marriage, she became my closest best friend. I couldn't imagine going through this without her.

After submitting my samples to the lab, I patiently waited in the pack house for the results. I spent the whole day in the bedroom, trying to contain the anxiety that was steadily building up inside me.
Even though I knew I was innocent and the results would undoubtedly confirm Nicholas as the father, I couldn't help but be anxious.
Just as those images had been manipulated, what if the test results were tampered with?
I tried to think of anyone in the pack who might want to do something like this, but my mind drew blanks before I could come up with any suspects.
Why would anyone want to do this? Especially against the Luna of the pack?
