Chapter 3- Cheating

1015 Words
Could it be the work of an enemy pack or the doings of rogues? I rubbed my temples as I overwhelmed myself with a barrage of questions. Glancing at my phone, I realized several hours had passed since Nicholas and I submitted our samples for the test. "It should have come back by now," Sophie pointed out. "You're right. Maybe Nicholas has already received the results," I suggested. I left my room and made my way down the hallway toward the study where Nicholas often spent his time. The door was slightly ajar, and I could hear some voices emanating from inside. I wondered what was happening, and as I approached the door, the voices became clearer. "Are you sure everything will go as planned?" I heard a familiar voice say in a concerned tone. "What's going on in there?" Sophie asked. "I'm not so sure either," I replied, my expression filled with bewilderment. I discreetly positioned myself to the side of the door, angling my ear toward the narrow opening to eavesdrop on the conversation within. "Yes, it will," I heard Nicholas' voice respond, causing my body to jolt. "How are you so sure? What if that little... b***h causes trouble?" Chloe interjected with annoyance in her voice. "You don't need to worry about that. The DNA proves the pups are mine. When the first pup is born, I'll bring it to you immediately," Nicholas's words weighed heavily on my heart. What on earth were they talking about? "Do you really think a mother would allow you to take her pup away right after giving birth?" Chloe asked. "I promise you, you'll have the pup. You have my word," Nicholas declared sternly in front of Chloe. What? My pups? I instinctively clutched my stomach protectively as their conversation hit me like a ton of bricks. Dizziness washed over me, and a surge of unease knotted in my heart. Why would Nicholas take my pups away from me and give them to Chloe? Witnessing my own mate utter such horrifying words made me feel sick to my stomach. "I believe you, Nicholas. Thank you for doing this for me. I love you," Chloe said, and my eyes caught her burying herself in Nicholas' chest. He held her, but remained silent. Anger and jealousy surged within me as I watched the two of them together. My mate and my friend – the two people whom I had loved and trusted the most in my life – were having an affair with each other! The sheer betrayal was too much to bear. I couldn't stand it any longer, and neither could my wolf. Sophie whimpered in despair as she witnessed her mate with another woman. The urge to burst into the room and unleash all my rage at them was overwhelming, but I held myself back. I couldn’t let Nicholas get away with his deceit. My pups didn't deserve to have a monster as their father. I left the study room, but as I turned around, I was taken aback to find Chloe's mother standing before me. Her blonde hair cascaded gracefully over her shoulders, and her flawless skin appeared ageless. "What brings you here, my Luna?" she inquired, her eyes wide with surprise. "I'm not sure if you're aware, Ruby, but your daughter has betrayed me. She's deceived all of us," I disclosed, my cheeks flushed with anger. "My Luna, you must be mistaken. Chloe is a kind-hearted girl, and she would never do anything to harm any one of us," Ruby explained with a nervous chuckle. "I know everything your daughter and my mate are up to. I've overheard their plans. Just wait and see how I inform each of their schemes to the pack's elders," I declared before walking away briskly. I was too furious to pause or heed anyone. He claimed to love me. He promised to protect me. He vowed to keep me happy for the rest of my life. Every word he spoke was a lie. I was a fool to think that an Alpha would love an orphan omega like me. As I made my way to the pack's elders, I sensed someone standing behind me instinctively. "Who's there?" I questioned, turning to confront the person lurking behind me. "You should have learned to keep your mouth shut," Ruby warned in an errie voice before shattering a glass vase over my head. The vase shattered into countless pieces as I collapsed to the floor at her feet. Blood began to pool around my body as my vision started to blur. The only thought that crossed my mind before I blacked out entirely was of my pups. —---------------------------------------- A brilliant white light flashed across my slowly clearing vision. My body felt numb, and my head throbbed as if a truck had plowed through it. Gradually, as my hazy vision sharpened, I started to hear distinct beeping sounds, playing on repeat. I found myself within the walls of a room—a hospital room. It gleamed with pristine whiteness, bathed in the glow of a massive light attached above me. Countless wires connected various machines to my body, now adorned in a hospital gown. Despite the pain coursing through me, I made an effort to raise my body and sit up. A large bandage wrapped around my head. I clutched my temples, attempting to ease the splitting headache that overwhelmed me. "Emily! What happened to you?" Nicholas's voice echoed as he stormed into the room with Caine and Ruby. Normally, my face would light up with a smile upon seeing my mate, but today it remained somber. I recollected everything that had transpired earlier, making it impossible to trust him again. "Emily? I'm asking you something," he pressed, narrowing his gaze at me as I refused to answer. My eyes caught Ruby standing beside him, with a slight curve at the corner of her lips. "Oh, thank God you're here, Alpha. Th-the Luna was trying to abort her pregnancy!" Ruby suddenly broke the room's silence, leaving Nicholas and me in shock.
