-SELENE- "Sander?" Heart pounding, I scrambled out of bed. "What’s going on?" He tossed me my cloak. "Here, put this on. It’s still raining, and we’ve gotta walk a few houses down." "Why?" I yanked the hood over my head and shoved my feet into my boots, half-laced and clumsy. "You said you’re a med student and a healer, right?" He was already holding the door open. "The cook’s kid is sick. Really sick. She’s dying." "Oh no. What happened?" I hurried after him into the hallway, trying not to make too much noise. The inn was still asleep. The corridor was dim, the only sounds the soft creak of old floorboards and the occasional snore drifting through cracked doors. "I couldn’t sleep like you did," he said, flashing a crooked grin. "Went downstairs for a beer. Thought it might help." H
