Chapter 13

1290 Words
Eli was gone on a field trip today, and I didn't have to be at work today. That didn't prevent me from working, though. I sat my butt down on the couch and finished many paper works that needed to be done in owning a small business. Reid has also stayed home, but he didn't say much to me. He seemed to be very focused on his work and was on his laptop, and took many business calls since this morning. When I lived with him, he had always been so focused on his work. And this is precisely how I would see him almost every day. Not much has changed in this. "So, are you actually going to do work or stare at me the whole time?" He looked down at me. I wanted to curse. Of course, I was staring. "Right! Sorry," I brushed it off, focusing back on my work. But not before I heard him let out a chuckle. He fell back on the couch beside me, and we did our work silently except when he took one of his dozen calls. "You know you could use a break?" I said. "Well, if I get one, you probably should too, " he pointed over at my workspace. "I can't right now. I have all these papers to look over and-" I stopped mid-sentence to noticed him smirking at me. "Right! Well, I guess I'll leave to it," He chuckled, staring at me for a few seconds before he got yet another phone call. I always thought it was impressive to run a business at 25 years old. I mean, he was only 22 when he started, and then he married me. He was able to handle everything by himself and have thousands of employees behind him. I own a small business, and as much as I loved it with my whole life, it was super hard running it. There's so much that goes into owning a business, and I couldn't even imagine how hard it was for him. But still, he always had that calm face. And I admired him for it. "Do you want something to eat?" He asked me. I checked the time to see it was way past 12. "Sure. Do you want to go out or cook something here?" I asked him. "We can go out," he said. "Though we have to stop by my office for a quick second," I nod my head. - I almost forgot how big his office was. It was something that was straight out of a movie. I only ever came here two times in the time we were married. The building itself was enormous, and his own office was probably bigger than the apartment we live in. It still shocks me that he left this luxury life to live in a small two-bedroom apartment. He took out a couple of files on his desk as I waited awkwardly in his office, looking around. "What are you thinking?" He asked, looking up from his files. "Nothing, just how big this place was," I said. His eyes went back to his files. "It could be bigger," he said. "I guess you could make it happen," I snorted. "I can make anything happen, and you should know we are married," "Please, I was only married to you for three years, and even then, I barely knew you," I shot back. He closed his file and looked at me. "Aren't you now?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow. "Aren't I now what?" I asked him. "Getting to know me?" I sighed. "It's not like you give me much of a choice. We live in the same place," I told him. "It's not a punishment," "I never said it was," "You're speaking as if it is," "Then that's your problem, not mine," He took in a deep breath. "Let's just go get food," I agreed, and we headed out of his office and made our way to a restaurant I had never been to. But by the looks of it, it seemed like it caused more than a month's rent. It was obviously somewhere where he would pick. We were seated right away in a private area away from most of the guests. The waiters treated us like we were VIPs. I mean, I guess we are. Even if I wasn't, Reid indeed was. "What do you want to eat?" He asked, and I glanced over the menu. Everything on here just looked absolutely delicious, but I wasn't going to admit that. "I don't really like anything on here," I said and pushed the menu away from me. It really wasn't because I was stubborn... okay, maybe a little, but I couldn't afford anything on here even if I sell half my kidney. The server came up to us. "Good afternoon Mr. Hall and miss-" "Mrs. Hall," Reid said before she could call me anything else. The server was a tall girl with beautiful blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes, someone that Reid probably would have liked, but he, to my surprise, did not even look at her in the eye. "Right, Mrs. Hall. What can I get both of you today?" "I'll have the Winter Salad with Easy Herbed Pork Tenderloin, and for the lady, a water will do," he said. I knew I said I didn't want anything, but him ordering me just water and him an amazing lunch that looked absolutely incredible was just cruel. I stare at him. After the food had arrived, he devoured his food while my mouth watered for half of it. But my stubbornness prevented me from saying anything or letting my pride go. "You sure you don't want anything?" He asked for the 5th time since his lunch arrived. I knew he was asking on purpose, but it still pissed me off. "No, I'm sure I can get more food for ten times less than how much that salad costs," I said. He laughed. "You know this is a family restaurant. We can eat all the food we want without being charged a penny," My mouth went wide. He couldn't have said this sooner while I sipped on my water the whole time. "Why didn't you say anything?" I questioned him and turned to call one of the servers and ordered half of the menu. And stuffed my mouth when all the food arrived. "I thought you said you didn't like anything on the menu?" Reid beside me smirked. "Ya, that's before I knew everything was free," I said and continue to stuff my face. - By the time we made our home, I was exhausted from eating so much. I didn't even want to move from the couch. The food at the restaurant was delicious, and I ate everything I could, but now even a single bite of anything else would make me throw up. "I can tell you enjoyed lunch," he crossed his arm. "I'm never eating again," I groaned. He chuckled and came to sit beside me on the couch. "Don't you have to pick Eli up soon," he said, turning his wrist to show me the time on his Rolex. I groaned even louder. "I can barely even move. I'll just call Chris and ask him to pick him up," I said, reaching for the phone that was in front of me on the coffee table, but before I could grab it, Reid did. "So you don't bother asking me if I can pick up our son?" I sighed. "the teacher barely even know you, and they know Chris well," "Well, they will f*****g get to know me, then I'm going to pick up my son!”
