The tension in Alpha Eric's office was palpable. "The sweep of Corinne's vehicle and belongings revealed a lot of highly sophisticated tracking and recording technology," Tobias said gravely. "If anything, the vehicle tracker is a backup, since the laptop has extensive stalkerware embedded in it. The compromised laptop has a really advanced program that would have installed the same stalkerware on her cellular device, when it prompted her to sync her new Samsung device. It exploits the existing services, and she would not have noticed anything was wrong. This kind of sofware is extremely expensive, and well beyond what an average person would even have access to. We know that Corinne fled an abusive home situation, and we also know that her parents showed up at her hotel. It would be an easy determination that her parents found her location through this software, as well as access to the information on her new phone. What we do not know, is who her parents hired to maintain this software, or why." Tobias sat down, and everyone was silent.
"Tobias, I want you in touch with your connections to find out who is running the technical side of this software, and is it being reported to anyone besides Corinne's parents. Stephanie, I want you to call our vetting company that we use for new pack members and have them do a full and complete workup of Deana and Willard DuPree. I want to know everything about them and their known associates. Let them know it's a rush request and I want the report by morning. Terrence and Gibson, I want you to beef up patrols and security. Send another warrior to assist Anwar and Keith with guard rotation. Have them also take this smartphone and laptop with them for Corinne. She won't be able to continue using her new phone safely, however we will need to keep it on to track the tracker. If there's no further questions, all of you are dismissed. I need to make a phone call." Everyone stood, and Eric grabbed his Luna's hand, pulling her into a hug. "We will figure it out my love. Try not to worry." She hugged him back and gave him a quick kiss before she left to make those phone calls.
Eric reached out to Alpha Jeremiah and filled him in on everything that happened, ending with the threatening message. A loud growl exploded through the phone, and Eric jerked the phone away from his ear. "I will be there in seven hours," Jeremiah's low and angry voice said. "Okay Alpha, I will be waiting for your arr-" Alpha Eric said as Jeremiah disconnected the call. Eric pulled his hands over his face utterly overwhelmed and exasperated. He was glad that Jeremiah was on his way, but did find the reaction to the news to be a little disconcerting. Jeremiah was well known as the Alpha that connected many packs, saving the weak and abused. He was however, also known as a relentless and merciless enemy. Eric had to admit though, he had also felt rage towards Corinne's abusers. It was almost as if your strongest feeling towards the girl was amplified. Shaking himself out of his reverie, he mindlinked his Beta and Gamma to alert them to Alpha Jeremiah's new arrival time.
Leaving his office, Eric went to find his Luna, and let her know what was happening. He found her on the Alpha Floor, in her home office. She smiled and held up her hand to indicate she was almost done when he came in. "Thanks Reggie. We appreciate all your hard work. I'll let the Alpha know you will have the files he requested ASAP." After she hung up the phone, Eric crooked his finger and gestured for her to come over. She walked over to where he was leaned agains her doorway. He stood nearly a foot taller than she did. Reaching for his mate, he lifted her off the ground as if she weighed nothing more than a feather. Stephanie squealed and wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck. Pulling her close, Eric rubbed his nose along her neck taking in her scent of warm vanilla and amber. "Alpha Jeremiah is on his way now. He will be here in about seven hours," he said still rubbing her neck, his warm breath gently caressing her skin, causing goosebumps to erupt. Breathing shallowly as desire pooled between her thighs, Stephanie looked in her mate's eyes, seeing his need reflected back to her. "I think we need to be quick then, don't you? She asked him teasingly biting her bottom lip.
Eric captured her mouth with his and kissed her deeply, their tongues fighting for dominance. He pinned her to the wall, lifting her up her dress and tearing off her panties. She groaned into his mouth as she undid his belt and pants, letting them fall to the floor. Holding her up with one arm, he pushed his boxers off, letting his member spring free. Stephanie ground her hips against him, her need matching his. Breaking free of the kiss, she grabbed fistfuls of his hair, her core pulsing as her anticipation built. "I need you inside me," she said breathlessly, her chest heaving. He wasted no time and thrust deeply inside her, digging his hands into her hips as she rocked her hips faster and moaned. "Oh love you feel so good," he said as he matched her rhythm, both of them carried away with their urgency and need. Feeling her tighten against him he reached his hand down to her entrance and massaged her, stimulating her most sensitive nerve bundle until he she was panting and moaning and her legs were shaking. "Come for me," he said, his hands expertly working her bud as she came undone. Gripping her with both hands he continued thrusting as wave after wave of pleasure rocked her system and clenched her core around him, until he also released his seed into her dripping wet core. "Do you want to grab a quick shower?" Eric asked as he gently placed her back on her feet. "Mmhmm, I do want to grab a shower, but I think if you come with me it will be anything but quick, mister." Stephanie answered teasingly.
Eric let out a big laugh, much more relaxed after the intimate moment he shared with his mate. "Alright alright," he said, "You go grab a shower, and I'll link the omegas to prepare a room for our guest and have some food sent up for us. I also need to let everyone else know the change of plan so there's no surprises," he said, kissing her on the tip of her nose. "But whatever ideas you thought might happen in the shower, we will revisit later," he finished, wiggling his eyebrows at her. "You dork," she laughed. "Yes, but I'm your dork," he replied. Stephanie showered and changed into a fresh set of clothes. She curled up into Eric and said, "Tell me again that everything is going to be okay." Eric put his arm around his mate and said, "My love, I know it seems bleak right now, but everything is going to be okay. Alpha Jeremiah will be here in a few hours, and we have everyone working on reports. Something will give, I just know it." Eric said soothingly. "Go ahead and eat. Im going to take a quick nap, since I have no idea how long tonight will take." Stephanie nodded and dipped her grilled cheese into her tomato soup, watching her mate close his eyes on the sofa. After eating she snuggled in closer and closed her eyes as well.
At the Silentclaw Shadows pack, an extremely angry Alpha Jeremiah and his wolf were ready to kill. "Someone has been helping her parents track her, record her, and and harass her. Alpha Eric put some warrior guards on her but she was STILL FOLLOWED," he raged at his Beta. "So what's the plan Alpha?" Abel asked evenly. "Link the pilot to get the jet ready. I'm packing a bag and leaving tonight. I plan to be there in the next few hours. You're in charge of the pack while I'm gone, and I'll update you as new information comes in. In the meantime, see what you can find out about Corinne DuPree, and her parents Deana and Willard. If she is the Potential like the River Growlers think, then I cannot help but find it hard to believe no one else has ever noticed it until now." Abel stood and nodded, "I agree Alpha, I'll get right on that and let you know what I find out. When you're ready to go, I'll drive you over to the tarmac."
Jeremiah stormed towards his bedroom. Flinging the door open he grabbed his suitcase and began packing. "I cannot believe that someone was that close without anyone noticing!" Jeremiah said exasperatedly to Finn. "What's the next call going to be, sorry she got abducted?!" he continued, grabbing his toiletry bag and throwing that in the suitcase as well. "It's not entirely their fault, the River Growlers have the added security risk that the girl believes herself to be human, so they were in the human town, in the human stores. They cannot stop strange shifters from going to those places," Finn reasoned. "I think we go get her and bring her here. She would be safe that way." Finn added. "We can't just go get humans, Potentials or not, and bring them into the middle of a werewolf territory, Finn. You know this! She will think she was being abducted, not being saved from abduction!" Jeremiah exclaimed. "I know that," Finn huffed, "You don't have to kidnap her. You could just ask her to come." I rolled my eyes. "How about we meet her first before we start planning her leave from her home country?" he said sarcastically. Truth be told, Jeremiah thought Finn had a great idea, but wasn't sure how to approach it. From everything he knew, Corinne has a terrible family and her life has revolved around having to protect herself and escape bad people. "How will anyone be able to explain to her that the bad people she already knows are only the tip of the iceberg?" he thought. After exchanging final instructions the plane took off for Virginia. He reclined his seat and shut his eyes, falling asleep quickly. As the plane began its final descent, Jeremiah stirred awake. He sent a quick text to Alpha Eric, letting him know he was landing. His phone chimed, and the reply simply read, "Be there in 5."
At this same time, Corinne was pulling cookies out of the oven. After everyone left, she felt guilty for how she handled the news. It wasn't their fault these things were happening, and it wasn't fair to take out of them, she reasoned. Leaving them on the rack to cool, she started a fresh pot of coffee, and went to freshen up. She knew they were guarding her house from this unkown intruder, as she had seen Anwar through her window. "The least I can do is give them a cup of coffee and some apology cookies," she said to herself. Satisfied with appearance she piled cookies, coffee, mugs, cream, and sugar on a tray and headed out to the porch. Setting them down on her patio table, she looked around until she spotted Anwar again. Waving her arms to catch his attention, she called out, "If you and Keith aren't too busy, I wanted to invite you to have a cup of coffee with me." Anwar smiled and called back, "We will head over there in a minute!" Satisfied that she hadn't ruined her new friendships, she poured herself a cup and settled into the porch swing.
A few moments later Keith and Anwar joined her. "I wanted to apologize..." Corinne began to say, when Keith waved her off. "No apology necessary. You're in a high stress situation and it is perfectly normal to need some time alone." Relieved, she let out a sigh. "Well," she said, "if you won't accept an apology, at least accept some cookies. I baked them myself." Keith laughed and said, "now that, we can do." Anwar joined in the laughter and grabbed a cookie. After joking around for a few minutes, Anwar announced that they needed to get back to it but with the promise to stop by the next day. Keith grabbed the plate of cookies promising that he would have an empty plate for her by tomorrow. Corinne gently rocked in the swing with her cup of coffee, listening to the sounds of the night. She saw headlights approaching and tensed up reflexively, relaxing when she realized it was just Eric's SUV. They slowed as they approached Anwar, and talked for a brief moment before continuing on. She held up her hand to wave, as they slowly drove past her cottage, expecting to see Stephanie in the passenger seat. Instead she made eye contact with the most beautiful man she had ever seen.
Corinne stared open mouthed into his bright blue eyes with her arm still partially raised. Realizing that she had turned into a statue, she shook herself out of her trance, awkardly curtsied, and fled inside. Alpha Eric chuckled. Looking at his passenger's dazed expression, he said, "That was Corinne, the reason you're here." Breathing heavily, the scent of a fresh meadow breeze still lingering, Alpha Jeremiah quietly whispered, "Mate."
