Chapter 2Misha
I was holding Malcolm in my arms trying to protect him from the sun and anything else that came upon us. I knew my brother was going to survive, but it will take a while for the bullet to be pushed out of his head and his body to repair itself. Until then, I will not let anything happen to him. I saw a large rock casting a shadow on the ground not too far from where we sat. Scooping up my brother, I carried him over to the shadow. It will help shield him and I from the worst of the sun. This place was a desert and the worst place ever for our kind.
I looked down at my brother as I laid him in the dirt. The last time I saw him we had been fighting. He wanted to stay in Scotland, but I wanted to go to the other side of the world and see what it is like. He refused to let me and in turn I refused to listen. I left the castle we lived in and hadn’t gone back home. That was months ago as far as I knew. I looked around our surrounding area. I couldn’t feel anybody out there that wasn’t in Malcolm’s group. I looked down at my brother again and realized the bullet had worked its way out of his head faster than I thought it would and the wound was already starting to heal. I needed to get him blood though, to hurry along the healing process even faster and he can get back on his feet.
I looked in the direction the trucks had gone and saw that two of them were headed back this way. Dammit, I’ve got to hide us. Lifting my brother, I looked all over the place for a safe place to hide. There was nothing, it was all desert. I quickly carried Malcolm to the other side of the boulder I was standing in front of and laid him down. I grabbed some small rocks that were laying around the base of the boulder and made my way back around. Standing my ground, I waited for the trucks to get closer. I wasn’t sure if using rocks was going to do any damage, but I will kill these men this time before they take us.
Lawson
I saw Misha standing in front of a large boulder as we got closer. I didn’t see Malcolm though and my stomach clenched at the thought of him being gone. The guy was a good man from what I could tell, and I had made a fast friend out of him. Slowing down, I pulled up close to Misha and stepped out of the truck. A fist size rock struck me in the head and knocked me down to the ground. Then another one hit me in the temple.
“Dammit, woman. I’m here to help your brother rescue you. My name is Lawson, and Tobias is my brother.” I could hear laughing coming from the truck and I rolled over and gave my brother the middle finger.
“Damn Tobias, you could help me out asshole. I did just save your damn life.”
Tobias stepped out of the truck and held his hands up in surrender. Misha paused in her attack and watched as Tobias slowly walked up to her. She finally dropped the rock and straightened herself. I couldn’t hear what my brother was saying to her because he was whispering but Misha shook her head and pointed to the other side of the boulder indicating she had something she wanted Tobias to look at. When he walked off and around the boulder she came up to me and squatted.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize you were Tobias’s brother. I didn’t even look at who I was throwing the rock at. I was panicking, thinking those men had just pulled up to take my brother and I again. Please accept my apologies.” She stuck her hand out to me and I slowly took it.
I couldn’t help but think that once the dirt was washed off her she was going to be stunning.
“Yeah, no problem. I understand what you’re saying.” I stood up, towering over her and made my way around the boulder to see what my brother was doing. Tobias was squatting down over Malcolm, watching him for any sign that said he was waking up.
I walked up to him slowly and asked, “Has he woken or moved yet?”
“No, I was hoping he had but it looks like he’s still out. We need to get him in the truck, so we can get the hell out of here before those guys turn around and come back.” I nodded and lifted Malcolm’s heavy ass off the ground and carried him over to the truck.
We have a helicopter on standby. We’ll have to make it around that cavern we were in earlier to get to it.
“Why make it around when we can go straight through it. Wouldn’t that be quicker?”
“We can if you and Misha are comfortable with it.”
“Let me talk with Misha and make sure she is okay with it.” Tobias said.
He turned and walked off to talk to Misha as I laid her brother in the backseat. My men were standing around the other truck watching for our enemies to come back for us.
“You guys see anything yet?” I asked them.
They shook their heads and kept the vigil up. Tobias walked back over with Misha on his arm and I had to swallow the sudden flare of jealousy. What the hell, I thought.
“Misha said, she is fine to go back through the cavern if it means we get out of here faster.” I nodded and watched as my brother helped her into the back of the truck with her brother. Turning to my men I gave them the sign to load back up and follow me. It shouldn’t take us as long to get back and go back through the cavern. I’ll call the helicopter pilot and give him our coordinates, so he can meet us and be ready to lift off.
Misha
Oh, my word, Tobias’ brother was a damn good-looking man. I was a little embarrassed with the way I looked at this moment, cursing those filthy men for not plumbing a shower in my cell for me, asshole’s. I crawled into the back of the truck with my brother and laid his head down in my lap. I missed him terribly and needed to be close to my twin. I ran my fingers through his hair as I held his hand and prayed we made it back to the cavern and out before those guys come back for us. I didn’t want to have to tangle with them if I didn’t have to.
When we crawled back out of the truck some forty minutes later, we made our way through the hidden passage way and back towards the front of the cavern. I was a little surprised at how big this place was. I mean, I knew it was big, but damn they had completely morphed this cavern into a working facility. There were rooms, beds, kitchen, and even a working restroom with showers I noted with annoyance. Asshole’s could have let a girl enjoy a shower every other day, at the very least once a week.
Getting closer to the front entrance I realized I could hear a helicopter. Just as we walked out the front there it was, a helicopter waiting for our return. I was so relieved, I could have wept. Lawson was carrying Malcolm over his shoulder and Tobias grabbed my hand to help me to the open door of the helicopter. Lawson had quickly gotten up and in with my brother, so he turned and wrapped his massive hands around my waist and lifted me into the helicopter. Tobias and Lawson’s men were right behind us. Slamming the door, Lawson put his headset on and told the pilot to take us up and home.
Lawson
I watched Misha all the way back to our landing pad at the airport. We had received sanction before this mission to land here upon our return. I jumped out of the helicopter and handed one of my men Malcolm. Then I turned and reached for Misha again. I felt this warmth of electricity every time I touched her, and it perked my wolf up each time. There was something about this little vampire woman that was intriguing, and I was dying to figure it out.
We got into the waiting vehicles and headed to the penthouse at the hotel we were staying in. I was itching to call Lakoda and let her know I had her mate, but I wanted to surprise her. Thinking better of it since she has been through so much stress and it wasn’t good for my niece, I went to pull the satellite phone out of my pocket and realized it wasn’t there. Dammit, it must have dropped it as we were getting in the chopper. Oh well, she’ll find out soon enough, seeing as how my brother was practically rushing everybody to get on the road.
Tobias looked like s**t, Misha wasn’t too far off herself. I wasn’t going to tell her that though. I wanted to ask so many questions and was about to open my mouth when Malcolm suddenly popped his eyes open and sat up. He looked around the vehicle at the people crammed in here and then down at his hand where his sister had their hands linked. She hadn’t let go since she got in the vehicle and I watched as Malcolm’s face softened and he pulled Misha into a hug. He held her for a long moment and I had to swallow the damn jealousy down again. Why the hell would I be jealous of Malcolm holding his twin sister? That’s just not like me at all.
I noticed as they pulled apart how similar they were in looks. I mean, I know they are twins, but I wasn’t told they were almost identical. The only true difference between them was her looks were feminine and his were masculine, they even had freckles in the same place. It was amazing to study, I’ve seen many twins before in my life but never a male and female that looked so identical.
We finally made it to the hotel some thirty minutes later and made our way to the penthouse. Tobias practically ran inside, searching desperately for his mate. When Lakoda’s tear-streaked face swung around and saw it was him, she yelled out and ran to him, flinging herself into his arms. He held her, rubbing her hair and kissing all over her face. My brother was truly in love with his mate, it was obvious by the look on his face. It made me envy him a little. Tobias scooped Lakoda up and carried her into the bathroom where he shut the door and locked it. My family came up to Malcolm and I and hugged us, thanking us for finding them. My Mother was in tears and crying all over my chest as I tried to calm her down. She always was an emotional person.
I looked over to Misha and then back to my Mother.
“Mom, do you or Lakoda have any clothes Misha can borrow? I’m sure she would love to have a shower. I looked at her questioningly and she nodded. I could see the gratitude on her face as I asked about clothing for her.
“Oh, of course. You looked to be about Lakoda’s size. Here honey, let’s get you some clothes and a towel and you can go shower or soak in the tub if you want. Hell, do both if you want.” My Mother told her as she ushered her into a room.
I turned and looked over to Malcolm, “Hey man, you need clean clothes? I’ve got some that should fit you.”
“Yes, that would be much appreciated. I need to get the blood off my face and get rid of these dirty clothes and get myself into clean ones, so I can feel normal again. I’m going to have to take Misha with me when she gets done so we can feed. She desperately needs it.” It was on the tip of my tongue to offer myself up to Misha and I had to bite down on my tongue, so I wouldn’t say anything. Why the hell would I want to offer myself up as food for her? Geez, the sun must have gotten to me today. I nodded and turned to get his clothes and then go talk to my men.
Misha
A shower, a hot shower. I was in heaven right now and I never wanted to leave. I scrubbed my body hard. I needed to get the filth off me and it seemed like it was clinging to my body. When I was done showering I stepped out of the bathroom as I brushed my long hair.
“I thought you were never going to emerge.” Malcolm said, as he passed me and headed into the bathroom.
He shut the door and I heard the shower come on immediately. His head wound was healed except for the large bruise left behind from the bullet. I have never been so thankful in my life for our immortality like I was today. If he had been mortal, he would be gone right now, and I would be by myself.
Stepping into the main room of the suite, I came face to face with my rescuer. We stared at each other for a long moment before someone else cleared their throat. I took a step back and looked around at the group gathered around the table.
“Ah, hello, my name is Misha Kelly. Malcolm is my twin and my older brother by five minutes,” I said, with a small wave towards everybody. A slightly tall woman walked up to me and gathered my hands in hers. She was very beautiful. She reminded me of a fey in the story books I grew up with. I knew right away she was Tobias’s mother. He looked a lot like her.
“Hello, I’m Davina Cain and this is my family. You have Terk over in the chair by the bar, Lucian here next to his father Kent. You know Tobias and his mate Lakoda and Lawson you met him today also. She said pointing out each person. Oh, and this is Lakoda’s dad Michael Blair. I have two other son’s Jake who went out for a while and Lucian who went back home to take care of things there. I’m so thankful that you are alright and here with us Misha.
I stared at each one of them, trying to make sure I remembered all their names. Lakoda stood up and walked over to me. I smiled at the small girl and reached for her at the same time she reached for me.
“Thank you, for trying to come back for me and your mate.” I said, as we hugged each other.
“I would have come for both of you this second go around, but my family is stubborn and wouldn’t let me out the door.” she said, winking at me.
“You’re damn right they wouldn’t let your crazy ass out the door. If they did I’m sure my daughter would have been born early and the both of you girls would be in wolf form running around like a bunch of rabid wolves.” Tobias said, laughingly. I laughed with them as he painted the image in my head of Lakoda and a small pup trying to kill the guys who kidnapped us. Lakoda huffed and swatted him on the shoulder.
“You know shifters don’t shift until they hit maturity and that’s after they are eighteen.” She said, as she tried to hold back her smile.
The door to the room opened and Malcolm stepped out. Smiling, he walked up to me and gave me a hug.
“You ready to go feed sister?”
I nodded vigorously and grabbed a jacket that Davina handed me.
“I’m starving. I don’t think I have fed right in a while and I know I need it.” I said, shrugging the jacket on.
“It’s a bit chilly outside. I know you guys don’t get cold, but it will help you blend in while you’re out feeding. Malcolm, you better keep an eye on her and both of you come back safe,” Davina said.
“Yes ma’am, we’ll be back shortly, I promise. Come Misha, we need to get going and I want you to stay close to me.” I nodded, as we headed towards the door.
“Wait, I’m coming with you guys. I’ll help keep a watch while you feed. I would feel better if I knew you were safe.” Lawson said.
Malcolm quickly agreed to let him go with us and we left the room.
I was a little nervous having Lawson around while I fed. There’s something about the man that I’m attracted to and I don’t want him to think less of me. What if my feeding disgusted him? It might turn him away from me before I could get the chance to get to know him. That would suck. He’s so nice and gorgeous and I felt like there was something between us, a spark of attraction maybe?
As we made our way down to the lobby I noticed my brother and Lawson scanning the place, never taking their eyes off the tons of people milling around. I didn’t see anything or anybody that would stand out or be questionable, but I have learned over the last few months not to trust people and nothing is what it’s supposed to be. This world is full of secrets and lies.
I waited as Lawson opened the door for me and we stepped outside. The sun was just starting to go down and the street lights were coming on. Europe was a beautiful place but at night it was almost magical. This has always been one of my favorite places to be in the world. Now that I wasn’t facing certain death, I was really looking and appreciating the things in this world that I took for granted before. My life has always been very sheltered. It took me venturing out on my own to figure it out. I wish I would have had that knowledge before I had taken off.
