Chapter Eight
Samantha had been dating Alex for a few weeks, and she had been eager to meet his friends. Alex had told her all about his close-knit group of friends, and she was excited to see if they would approve of her.
As they walked into the coffee shop, Samantha could feel her nerves starting to get the better of her. What if Alex's friends didn't like her? What if she said something stupid or awkward?
Alex seemed to sense her nervousness and gave her a reassuring squeeze on the hand. "Don't worry, they'll love you," he said with a smile.
As they approached the table, Samantha saw a group of lively and chatty people who all seemed to be in their early twenties. There was Emily, a bubbly blonde who was Alex's best friend; Jake, a tall and lanky guy who was always making jokes; and Sarah, a quiet and reserved girl who was an avid reader.
As Alex introduced Samantha to his friends, she could feel their eyes scrutinizing her. But as they started talking and laughing together, Samantha began to feel more at ease.
Emily was the first to warm up to Samantha, asking her questions about her favorite books and movies. Jake, on the other hand, was a bit more sarcastic, teasing Samantha about her love of romance novels. But despite his joking, Samantha could tell that he was a kind and loyal friend.
Sarah was a bit more reserved, but as the conversation turned to books, Samantha found herself bonding with Sarah over their shared love of literature.
As the afternoon wore on, Samantha felt like she was becoming a part of the group. They were all so welcoming and friendly, and she could tell that they genuinely liked her.
As they said their goodbyes and Alex walked Samantha home, she turned to him with a smile. "I think I passed the test," she said.
Alex grinned, putting his arm around her shoulders. "Definitely," he said. "My friends loved you. And I have to say, I'm pretty fond of you myself."
Samantha felt her heart skip a beat as she looked up at Alex. She knew that she was falling for him, and she could tell that he felt the same way about her.
