5 Tired though he was after his late night of nature watching, Nathan woke on the dot of five-thirty. He had been waking at that time for so long that he did so regardless of whether he had an alarm set, or even if he had a reason for getting up. He was halfway out of bed before he remembered that there was no reason for him to get up. Even so, he had to force himself to slip back under the covers and close his eyes; he didn’t hold out much hope of being able to get back to sleep, but he couldn’t see the point in getting up if he didn’t need to, dozing was a better idea.
