14 Havers, a look of almost scared nervousness on his face, stood before the desk in the manager’s office of The Moor’s Edge hotel. His uniform was soaked through, despite him having been outside for only as long as it took to get from his front door to his car and from his car to the hotel foyer, but he didn’t dare make a move to try and ease his discomfort.
