I was too distraught to give her any details, just told her I was struggling with the depression a lot more than normal and wanted to put Gracie in that program. That nonprofit Hester helped to start. She drove out to meet me that very morning. Brought the permission forms, the legal documents, everything. Told me now that she was done with her book tour, she’d take Gracie into her own home if that was all right with me.
