CHAPTER 1
Standing beside her office window, staring into space, Billionaire Emilia inhaled deeply, trying to quell the storm brewing within, a knock on the door broke the silence. “Come in!” She said, her voice betraying the tremor. "Ma’am Emilia , the meeting with the potential partners is in an hour," her assistant reminded her gently. "Postpone it," Emilia declared, her resolve hardening. "Postpone? But Ma’am Emilia, you emphasized the importance of this meeting for the company's expansion. Are you sure everything's alright?" Without a word, Emilia walked out of the office and into the parking lot. Sinking into her car, tears welled up, blurring the city lights into a shimmering mess. Suddenly, a figure appeared beside her car. It was Daniel, observing her from a distance, concern etched on his face. He knocked softly. Emilia lifted her head, her mascara smudged, a fragile facade of a smile playing on her lips. "Just go, Daniel. I'm fine." "Look, I know I haven't always been the perfect person, but you shouldn't have to shoulder this alone," he said, his voice sincere. "I care about you, Emilia. Whatever the problem is, I'm here to listen, Lean on me." Hesitantly, Emilia opened the door. They sat in silence, the air thick with so many emotions. "I am here to listen If you're comfortable sharing. Let me in on this." Emilia remained silent, her gaze lost in the twilight. “Is this about me? Did I use the wrong choice of words with you yesterday? “ ”Uhmmm! I will be fine Daniel “, she whispered, her voice barely audible. Daniel reached for Emilia's hand, she felt uneasy, their eyes met, and she took a deep breath. "Why are you fighting this?" he asked, his voice filled with a hint of curiosity. "You know it's impossible," she replied, her voice trembling, her gaze locked on his. He smiled, a bittersweet curve of his lips. He tried to brush a stray strand of hair from her face. She jerked, but he leaned closer, his voice barely a whisper. "Can you trust me?" he asked, his eyes searching hers. Her heart hammered against her ribs, her own emotions a whirlwind. He leaned in, his lips meeting hers in a soft, lingering kiss. "I love you, Emilia," he murmured against her skin. She reluctantly pulled away, shocked, Daniel stood up and looked at her for a minute, his face a mask of composure as he left her. "Dad I wish you were here," she whispered, covering her hands on her face. A notification chimed on her phone. A message from Daniel: "Grant me the honor of dinner tonight. Please reply and I'll pick you up." With a sigh, she rose, anger simmering beneath the surface. Returning to her office, she grabbed a file and stormed out. Later that night, Emilia soaked in the bathtub, the water offering a temporary solace. As she stepped out, the doorbell rang. "Who is visiting at this hour?" she whispered, wrapping herself in a bathrobe and looking through the peephole, she saw Daniel. "Daniel, it's late. What are you doing here?" "No reply? Do I disgust you that much?" he asked, his voice deceptively calm. "No! Why would you say that?"she stammered, opening the door. "Come in," she said, showing him the way to the sitting room.” “What can I offer you?” Emilia asked. He requested a glass of wine, and she poured two glasses of wine, suspicion lingering in her eyes. They sat in silence, Daniel's gaze lingering on her. "Remember we were suppose to have a dinner date?" "I didn’t get the memo," she replied, a hint of humor in her voice. They laughed hysterically, easing the tension slightly. "You have made me smile today," she said, her voice sincere. "I truly enjoy Your company." "What you are asking for is impossible, Daniel," she confessed, her voice firm. "I am not settled for this." "I understand your hesitation, Emilia. But I won't give up on us easily. I can take care of you despite the financial gap at the moment . Let me treat you like the queen you are." Emilia smiled, touched by his words. "Thank you for caring." "So, about those tears yesterday..." "When I miss my dad, I get overwhelmed. I wish he were here, someone to guide me." “I am so sorry about this deep pain you feel. for a moment I thought it was about the way I spoke to you the other day. If that contributed, I'm sorry “ Daniel said remorseful. “ that's in the past now Daniel. I'm fine”. Daniel moved closer to Emilia and whispered into her ears, “You are so beautiful and I can't help but admire you. Please don't deny me this opportunity to be with you. ” Emilia smiled and subtly pushed him away but Daniel held unto her hands so tight and kissed it gently as Emilia blushed. They both drank and Daniel was tipsy but Emilia was drunk. Daniel took her to her room, adjusted her pillows as he lay her on her bed. and covered her up, and slept on her couch. At dawn, Emilia woke up and tried to recall what happened and realized she had a guest the previous day. Holding tight to her duvet on her chest, She opened and peeped in between her thighs if Daniel had taken advantage of her but nothing of such happened. She hurriedly went to the sitting room only to find Daniel about to leave. She looked at him emotionally and said “Thank you “. “What for?”, Daniel asked with a surprised countenance. “ For not taking advantage of my vulnerable state”. She replied. “ you know I can't do that. “ he bragged, “I want you to genuinely give me your heart. I want you for real. “ Daniel said as he made his way to the door “ Daniel please don't go”. Emilia said passionately.
