22 JJ scrubbed the sides of her kitchen sink. How could a place dedicated to washing dishes get so scuzzy? She knew she was procrastinating. Dorothy was working this evening, and the girls both had a rare evening at home. JJ had volunteered for dinner duty, but was blanking on what she could fix without making a trip to the supermarket. Maybe if she swore the kids to secrecy, they could feast on macaroni and cheese and microwave popcorn. They wouldn’t mind. She and Otto had already sworn them to secrecy when they told the girls they could play outside. Dorothy was in another of her overprotective phases, afraid all the dead leaves would trigger Rachel’s asthma.
