28 Wednesday was apparently not a very exciting night at the strip club. Adam had dozed off in the back, and Luther couldn’t remember the last time he’d heard a sound in the vehicle beyond his occasional soft snore. Luther was in no danger of falling asleep himself. He had never been comfortable in Virgil Rutledge’s presence. But now, seated next to him in the dark, Virgil in no way restrained, Luther realized he’d burned through a great deal of his fear of the man. “How did you know about this place?” Luther asked. “What made you think Danny might come here?” Virgil didn’t answer, but Luther hadn’t really expected him to. The man wasn’t exactly a team player, which was why, regardless of his biological relationship to Adam, Luther didn’t trust him. He needed to figure out the man’s end
