38 “You really think this is going to work?” Iris asked. She’d been quiet for hours, though not sleeping, at least not since daylight. Danny checked periodically, not that he expected her to leap from the moving car while handcuffed. “What?” he asked. “Whatever this is,” Iris said. He didn’t answer, but he’d certainly been thinking about it. He wasn’t sure what Iris’s role would be, but he knew he needed her alive for now, that she would be a crucial element in the resolution. Beyond that, he no longer felt stressed trying to figure it out. He trusted the process. They were headed to a safe house, a place he’d used before.
