Becoming the Phoenix

Chapter 4

Calvin walked us to our first lesson of the day. He explained that this lesson helps you to control your gifts. I still wasn’t sure if I had one to control I still don’t remember what happened that night but miss weatherbourne said I was the Phoenix what ever that ment. I sat next to Calvin as the teacher went to each student and asked them to show what they had learnt with there gifts a girl made flowers grow from her hand, another made water dance, one even made a mini tornado go through the classroom causing papers to fly everywhere the teacher gave her a disapproving look as she moved on to the student sat next to her “Blake your up” she said. He got up and stood In front the class it was him, I’d recognise those cold blue eyes anywhere and now I have a name to go with those eyes Blake . Blake rose his hands I wasn’t sure what’s happening then tiny icicles fell all around us they looked like little diamonds it was beautiful. his gift was ice. “Very good Blake” the teacher said.The teacher then moved onto Calvin “remember Calvin your in control” confused and excited to see what he could do I watched as his eyes glowed red his breathing became ragged and claws extending from his fingers his breathing becoming more ragged he turned his head towards me sharp fangs in place of is normal teeth “MOVE” he gritted but before I could even move out of my seat Blake had already pulled me back behind him, his hand tight on my arm I heard the teacher shout “ YOU CONTROL THE WOLF THE WOLF DOES NOT CONTROL YOU CALVIN” I peered around Blake and Calvin had returned to normal taking deep shaky breaths. Blake loosened his grip on me and I look up at him I flash of concern flashed in eyes before returning to his cold stare “ thanks” I said. He didn’t respond he just walked back to his seat and sat down the girl next him wrapped her hand in his and gave me glare. I wasn’t about to get into that no matter how attractive Blake was I know that type of girl and with superpowers I was definitely not getting into that.

I took my seat next Calvin he looked at me with apologetic eyes “Taylor let’s see what you have” the blood ran from face I haven’t got anything to show well I don’t think I do even if I did I don’t know how to it had only ever happened that once “ i.. I don’t know how to” I said nervously Calvin put his hand on my shoulder and gave me a encouraging smile as turned I caught Blake’s eyes on Calvin’s hand and he looked annoyed “ miss Taylor your gift comes from your emotions work on it tonight the feeling has to be strong happy, sad , angry, they will all power your gift”. The girl next to Blake laughed “are we sure she’s not just human.” She said with venom i her tone. Yep she was definitely one of those mean girls. The teacher turned to her “ Ava keep your snide remarks to yourself or find yourself in another class.”. Ava huffed and snuggled her body into Blake and gave me a grin.

The rest of the school day went without any problems which I was so pleased about turns out I only have that one lesson with Blake and Ava. I could live with that. I met a girl called Harriett she seemed really nice it was her first year here aswell and she seemed just as nervous as me she told me she was a witch but her spells never seem to go to plan I was glad I found someone more like me. I hope we can become friends I’d never had girl friends before it would be nice to talk about girl stuff with someone and iv got a feeling I’m going to need a good friend in this place if I’m going to survive it.

Miss weatherbourne saw me at the end of the day “how were classes today I hope no one gave you any trouble” she asked “ it was ok still getting used to everything. Calvin has been amazing and I think I made a new friend” I said hopeful “well I’m very happy to hear that Taylor.” She smiled at me “ we have an emergency fund for people who come to us with nothing, so at the weekend iv agreed for you and Calvin to go off site so you can buy yourself some new clothes and school supplies ” she said. I wasn’t sure what to say I suppose I couldn’t just live in my uniform “thank you I really appreciate it” I said thankfully “ its not a problem dear now I let you go and enjoy your night” and with that we said I goodbyes. Calvin was waiting for me, to walk me back to the girls dorms. We headed into forest “sorry about what happened in class today. I usually have better control then that over my wolf” he said apologetically “ it’s fine at least you had something to show, I think that girl in class was right, what if miss weatherbourne is wrong about me?” I said not even sure if it was question “hey don’t stress your self about it you’ve had a rough few days your emotions are all over the place give your self some time and just relax” he said reassuring me. I smiled up at him thankful to of had him for my first day it really did help “ thank you for everything today you made a really scary day a bit less scary” I said. He pulled me into a hug “No worries beautiful. Like I said I got your back” he said. Still shocked from the closeness of the hug I pulled away “I’ll meet you here same time tomorrow” he said and I nodded in agreement and we said our goodbyes and I headed up to my room.

Once in the comfort of my dorm I quickly changed into the gym sweats and baggy top that was In the wardrobe. I’d done it I’d survived my first day maybe it won’t be so bad here after all. I flopped down on the bed drained from the first day, something crinkled under me and I reached under my back and pulled it out it was envelope addressed to me i sat up and opened it
