Chapter 9

Days later I was in the elevator headed up to the top floor of my fathers firm, on my way in I saw my uncle Richard standing with a group of people. When he looked my way and realized who I was, I was greeted with a bear hug and a smile "This here is my long lost niece Alisha." Many people greeted me after that. Uncle Richard was actually my papa's best friend from childhood, their fathers were best friends and as they grew up together they became best friends and created the law firm that my father runs Miller and Bates Law.     "Is Papa in his office." He nodded and I walked over to the door and was stopped by a secretary "Excuse me ma'am but Mr. Miller is not meeting with guest today, would you like to set up an appointment?"          I scratched my head looking at the blonde bimbo who clearly did not just hear was the VP of the company just shared with the group. Clearly she needed to clean her ears out. "Can you please inform him that someone wishes to speak with him."             "I'm sorry but I can not do that as he is with Mrs. Miler at this time and I don't think she would appreciate a random female coming to see her husband." she said.     I looked at her and laughed, did she just imply that I was a mistress? And that my father would have the audacity to do such a thing....in his workplace.     I smiled and she c****d her head to the side. "Will you please inform MY father, that I'm here for our lunch date." Her face paled and she picked up the phone and I walked over to the door. She spoke into the phone for a brief moment before hanging up and speaking "P-p-please g-go in." I nodded and walked into the room. My father greeted me with a big smile, while my mother wore her normal scowl towards me. "Mother.....Papa." He walked over and hugged me "What brings you in dear?" I held up the basket of food "We were suppose to have lunch together today.....Please tell me you did not forget."     "Oh i'm sorry it slipped my mind when your mother walked in to surprise me. Where is Amelia?" He smiled.            "Your ok Papa, I didn't mean to upset you. She's with Jake and Cassidy for the day, They felt I needed a break" I smiled back.     My mother took this time to ruin the moment by saying "To late for that don't you think Alisha."         I sighed and walked over to the small dining table that my father and small meetings at and set the basket down that I was carrying and opening it "Mother are you staying to eat with us?"     She looked at my father who's face plead with her to stay, she crossed her arms and walked over to the table and sat down with my father following suit. "What do we have here Alisha?" I took out the pasta and salad along with the chicken that my father love and sat down. "Your favorites, and if you finish your food I even brought dessert." My father laughed at my humor "Oh you take after..." He stopped in his tracks as my mother looked over at him her face showing rage. He cleared his throat and looked down grabbing food and placing it on his plate. "Well this looks great. Thank you darling."     I grinned "Anything for you Papa." My mother sat quietly eating her food, while me and my father continued to talk.      "Do you plan on coming to the Rose Festival this evening?" I nodded wiping my mouth "I want Amelia to see it, she loves flowers almost as much as aunt Calissa..Sometimes I feel like she might like them more then her." That made him laugh.         "Ugh, why would you bring up that awful woman." My mother spoke setting her fork down. "She's just so....Wild and acts as if she has no boundaries."     My papa looked at her, I don't think he informed my mother that he met with his sister and they talked out their problems "Mary must you speak in regards to my sister like that." My mother looked at him with rage "Well George how would you like me to remark in regards to her? It's not as though she is any help to us, have you not seen your daughters current state and scandal that she's brought back to the family."        I sat my fork on my plate, no longer hungry for the food that was left. I would never allow for this woman I called mother to see me at my down time, I pushed my seat back and stood "I think I should go. I'll see you later for the basket Papa."         I stepped around and walked out of the room, I did not want to give her the satisfaction of seeing the tears in my eyes and thinking that I feel shame. When really it was rage because of what she said. What did I ever do to this woman for her to continue to treat me like this? Even as a child she's always been so cold to me and it seems that it's only worsened now that I've come back.      I got into my car and took a deep breath. I picked up my phone and opened my messages and sent one to L.    Me- Are you Busy? He responded right away     L- Actually I'm on my lunch. What's the problem?     Me- I just came from lunch with my parents, of course it never goes well with my mother there. L- I'm sorry to hear that. What happen Me- She does any and everything to degrade people she doesn't feel is to her standards of society of living.  L- She sounds like a piece of work Me- More then that, and when she speaks of these people. She is referring to myself and my aunt Calissa. L- Don't take what she says to heart, the people who do that to others is normally someone who is suffering from an issues that is their own.  Me- I just wish...I wish she loved me as much as she loved my brothers. I was hoping with my return...Maybe it would be different...But of course...I was wrong.
