Chapter 4: Blacked Out

The closer I got to my house the more anxious I became. I think Posiden could feel my tidal wave of anxiety grow, he just sat there looking at me. I laughed nervously "what?"

Posiden huffed at me basically saying to stop putting up the act. Luckily I just started to pull into my drive way "were home," I said.

I gripped my steering wheel, awaiting what the night would bring me. It was mid day and Joseph should've been here by now, however he was a no show. I sighed stopping my truck I looked at Posiden smiling "let's try and catch up on chores."

I hopped out of the truck after turning it off Posiden followed closely. I made my way over to the chicken coop, a rusty blue wheel barrow was right beside it. I called the chickens out all of them ganging up on me, I assumed out of anger because they weren't fed yet. "All right my pretty birds, alright."

I walked over to a old metal trash can, opening the lid, it revealed a couple pounds of bird seed. I grabbed the scooper that was inside and scooped out a cup of seed. I scattered little piles everywhere cause I know they'd try to fight if I had one or two big piles. I smiled as all of them chirpped away, Posiden did a excellent job with them as well he just stood there looking at them. I could tell he wanted to chase a couple however he contained himself which made me feel relieved. My chickens were roam free so they didn't have a enclosed space and I didn't want to change that as they fertilized my crop naturally and eat most of the pests. I walked over to Posiden and rubbed his head "good boy."

We went on our way to check on the bees, they were lively today so I just peeked inside and let them be. Now it was time for the hard part. I walked over to the cows barn letting myself in through the side gate. I steadily started to make my way to ladder as the cows haven't noticed me yet. I started to climb on the ladder and Posiden just started to bark. His barks were deep and his hair was raised as if he was about to attack. I looked over quickly and it was Opal I could tell she didn't not approve of Posiden she was alerting the others that I'm here and so was a intruder. I quickly got back down slipping on one of the steps luckily I caught myself on the wooden ladder. Once I got down to the ground I started to put my hands in front of her "woah girl, WOAH."

Opals attention slowly came to me as I continued to step in front of her and Posiden with my hands to the side of me like a basketball player. The other cows were charging their way over here just looking to be fed. "Opal this is Posiden. Posiden you've seem to have met Opal. now you two get along or else."

I shook my fist at Opal and she seemed to understand. Opal was alright with Poseidon for now at least. I quickly made my way up before the cows got to me. I looked down from the loft to see them all looking up at me, waiting patiently. I tried not put any weight on my sprained ankle as I scooted one of the hay bales off the loft it fell and made a big thud as it hit the ground. That itself made me feel extremely tired, I huffed in air and rubbed my forearm against the top of my head. I climbed back down sweat pouring out of my skin like a dam broke inside me. I huffed and grabbed the grain quickly making big piles here in there outside of the barn. Everything started to get all blurry and my breathing became more shallow. Then it all went black.

I couldn't see anything anymore "am I dead?".

I tried looking around but I saw nothing but black abyss. I sat down onto the weird grey grass. I waited there sitting on the grey grass staring into the nothingness.Until I felt like something was watching me, I looked around again "hello?, is anyone there."

I stood up, brushing off my pants. Nothing responded back however I remembered this feeling. Cold air started to seep into my clothes. I shivered then it struck me, this was the same cold air as I felt last night. I booked it not wanting to find out that thing from last night. I heard footsteps run towards me then a whisper "Hello, Marci."

I spun around no one was there I felt this burning sensation again this time on my stomach. I screamed as tears rolled down my face. Then all of a sudden the pain stopped and I started to smell something delicious.

I sniffed the air, that was the smell of bacon and garlic eggs. I opened my eyes slowly revealing to me that I was in my living room. I sat up quickly which was a big mistake. My head started throbbing like a had a terrible hang over. Then someone offered me a water, I looked up staring right at Julius. I started to luagh; he was in my apron, in my house, cooking for me when I should be cooking for him. A tear came rolling down off the side of my cheek "is this a dream?"

Julius was gave me a smirk "No, it's Saturday exactly 9:24 Pm and we're on Earth right now."

My face went stone cold, I swore I could feel the blood leave my face. "N-no it cant be this was supposed to be tomorrow. Today is Friday." I said grasping onto any hope I could find within myself.

Julius arched his eyebrow almost giving me a look like you really wanna challenge me. I looked around for Posiden to see if that was real or not. I sighed in relief seeing him laying down in front of the door. "What happened?" I said closing my eyes.

Julius was hesitant at first, I could tell by the way he held his breath for a quick second. "My sister came over here yesterday, to give you some makeup before she left. She knocked on your door but no one answered. Your dog Posiden luckily got her attention as she was about to leave. She bathed you and put on new clothes before she had to catch her flight. She told me to take care of you in the mean time."

I opened my eyes realizing that I had PJs on. I sighed in relief of him not bathing and dressing me. I took a minute to respond back, the pain in my head grew more fierce. I winced in pain putting my hand on my head. Julius sets the bottle down in my lap and walks away taking off the apron. "Drink, it'll make you feel better."

I opened the water bottle and down it. I stopped half way taking a breather. Water has never tasted this good before and I was enjoying it. I drink it all whipping my face incase any of the water got left behind. I slowly got up and made my over to the kitchen table. Julius sat there looking at me "so do you want to tell me what happened."

I could tell he really wanted to know cause his finger was tapping. I sat down and Julius slides the plate that was infront of him over to me. "All I remember was I was pouring grain for my cows..." I stopped mid sentence.

I shot up instantly surprising Julius. My chair went flying backwards falling over. "oh my gosh, my farm, my cows, my bees, my chi-."

Julius cut me off "are all fine, I did the work myself."

I looked at him astonished that he even knew what to do. "the cows are fed?"

Julius rolled his eyes "Yes their fed so is the chickens. The crops were watered and your bees box was filled with honey so I took half of it since fall is right around the corner. I also trimmed your cows hooves cause they seemed to be a bit over grown."

I gave out a little hmp and pick my chair back up. I sat again "how do you know how to do all this stuff?"

Julius grey eyes pierces me, his facial expression didn't fail. It basically yelled out I'm annoyed. I sighed and took a bite of the food continuing what I was saying before " I poured my cows some grain, everything went blurry, and I blacked out."

I started to dig into the food after saying that. I glanced up seeing Julius in what appeared to be deep thought. I finish up eating the bacon and eggs. I noticed he was in some sweats and a tank top. I stared at Julius impressive figure for awhile; his muscles were so well defined, I really wanted to feel it, his body looked like it came right out of a sculpture, I was enjoying my time until he noticed. "take a picture, it'll last longer." he groaned.

I squabble back "take a picture of what?"

Julius rolled his eyes at me "I caught you staring! what, never seen a man look like this?"

I thought about that for a minute "no, I don't think I have. I mean theres one guy but he isn't bulging with muscles, I mean he's fit and has abs but he isn't nearly as big as you."

Julius sighs "well the show isn't gonna last long. I'm going to go home in 10, I wanna sleep in my bed again."

Julius gets up from the table and walks over the the couch. he grabs a red duffle bag from the side of the couch and starts to rummage through it. I sighed thinking about what happened the last night I was by myself. I run my fingers through my hair regretting what I was about to say " can you stay another night, there's some really weird stuff thats been going on around my house at night."

I think Julius was over with this experience especially, being over at farm house that was set in 60s while he lived like a celebrity in his modern home. He kind of just looked at me funny after some thought "what do you mean weird things have been happening."

"I mean like, I feel like someone or something always watching me now, I had some wild animal try to break into here a few nights ago, and some other things as well,"I responded back quietly hoping he didnt hear most of what I said.

Julius just stood there kind of looking into space like he was remembering something. He startled me after he was quiet for so long "Alright, Im fine with that. Just I sleep out here and you sleep in your room. I'll be here as long as you need me. Also you can't open my black box that's in the fridge."

I nodded saying kind of excited"im really grateful, thank you."

I was curious about the black box that was in my fridge however I just simply ignored it. I was way to happy and tired right now to even care. I left my plate on the table and walked over to my bedroom I yawned telling him in drowsy voice "if you want a bed just pick a room downstairs in the basement there is also a bathroom down there."

Julius just looked surprised I could tell he wanted to talk more, however I was to tired and went to bed. Posiden followed me into my room jumping up on the bed. I groaned "move over, you got a big butt."

I slide into bed and with not a care in the world felt at peace sleeping with someone else in the house.

I woke up in the afternoon, I streched having my arms rattle above my head. I got up finding a note on the floor, I grabbed it.

Dear Marci,

I had to leave in the morning for my job. I got your breakfast, it's some donuts in the fridge. I'll be back later on tonight.

I put the note on my nightstand, and headed into the kitchen. I grabbed the donuts in the fridge, opening the bag it was two glazed donuts. I took a bite and automatically fell in love with the donut. I ripped off a peice and gave it to Posiden. I could tell Posiden enjoyed it too. I put the other one back in the fridge to save for later. My eyes wondered over to the black box. I started to feel a fire within me start curious at the black box; however I contained myself, stopping my hand midway to the box. I really wanted this roommate and I wasn't about to throw it all away for me peeking into whatever he had. I took a deep breath in shutting the fridge door. I did my wake up routine to keep my mind from wondering whatever was in that box.

After changing and doing what I normally did when I woke up, I headed outside. I looked around noticing that Joseph didn't come in again. This made me a bit worried for him as this was way out of his character. I went back inside heading for the kitchen. I came across my junk drawer that was right by the sink and rustled inside it. I finally found my index book after a little while. fumbling through it, I finally found Josephs old number with his mothers. I walked over to the phone and started dialing up his phone. I waited for about 3 mins and to no avail it just went to voice-mail. I then tried his mothers it rang a couple times then I hear someone pick up "Hello?"

Then it hung up, which confused me. I called again this time I hearing Josephs mother Jennifer "look I'm gonna listen to your whole damn speech, then I'm going to hang up."

Then it dawned on me Josephs mother wasn't the nicest crayon in the box. "N-no Jennifer, it's Marci... Marci Lovell."

There was a pause on the phone for little "oh well, why are you calling."

I gave a nervous chuckle "well I was wondering what happened to Joseph. I hired him while I recovered from a nasty fall and he hasn't shown up for a couple days."

I could tell Jennifer was disliking this conversation a lot by the way she responded back "I don't know what's going on with my son, he never visits me. Go see him for yourself."

"where does he..." I was cut off due to her hanging up the phone.

I groaned and fumbled through my index book again. I called people all day even old preschool friends that don't even live in the same town as me. I sighed slamming my hand against the table. "Today is just bad luck." I said whispering.

Posiden started to growl, I glanced towards him. He was growling at the door I looked towards the door anticipating something dreadful. A knock rang out twice, I was hesitant on going over and seeing who it was. Then I hear the knock rung out again ths time echoing through the house. I quietly walk over to the door opening it slowly.
