CHAPTER FOUR

NICOLAS POV I watched as my sweet girl scurried out of the courtroom. I wasn't dumb; I heard all the remarks made about her, which I was sure she heard too. I faced my subjects: the council of elders, and they all bowed their heads in fright. "Paul, Agnes, and Scott, do you know the grave sin you just committed?" I asked, facing the three whose voices were the loudest. "How dare you talk ill of my Luna!" They all shivered in fright and dared not look at me. "You do know there is a punishment for those who talk back against me, right?" I asked, with my voice calm and low. That's the best way to get an enemy or prey fidgeting. Be calm, and act unbothered while letting them know the punishment of their sins. That way, they would be more frightened. "We… we are sorry, Alpha," Paul said, with fear lacing his tone. "You know me, I don't forgive my offenders, and you three have offended me the most today. You dared talk ill of my Luna, that means talking ill of me too, and now, you three would be punished." I faced the warriors stationed by the door, and they all rushed in. "Lock them up in the dungeon until I decide their fate." The fear in their eyes grew, but I cared less. As long as that woman would be the mother of my child, no one dares mess with her. I walked back to my seat and crossed my legs. "Let the meeting continue," I said and my voice echoed in the quiet room. The meeting went on, and while the elders deliberated on the coming alliance with the Thanos wolf pack, my mind wandered to how it all started. Getting a child is my only hope. I have a deep secret that no one, except my mother. That deep secret is a big threat to my life, and there is nothing that can be done about it. This was the reason why I opted to have a child to continue in my place when this secret of mine finally overwhelms me. I can't allow anyone else to rule the pack. 'It wouldn't fall into the wrong hands,' was the promise I gave to my father. The past ladies I had brought in to birth my child all vanished into thin air. They all stole and left with no traces of them left behind, not even their families, who I would be able to hold as hostages, to bring the criminals out, were left behind. I had lost all hope until I finally saw her, Izabela, on my last visit to Greycrest pack. She looked so innocent, and was kind to others, but when I looked deep into her eyes, I saw a different person. All I saw was exhaustion. She looked tired of life but had to keep pushing on. I saw how her stepfather had manhandled her, and that exhaustion got replaced by hatred and anger. She was the perfect person I needed. Someone who wants to go away from the cage she was locked up in, only to walk into the one I will create for her. The voice of a warrior cut through my thought when he said, "Sorry for the interruption, Alpha, but the new Luna escaped." Escaped? I dropped down my leg and drew my brows. I should have noticed earlier, I couldn't perceive her scent around. "You were supposed to be watching her," I grunted. "I apologize, sir, but I did. I only looked away when she went into the restroom, and when I noticed she was taking too long, I went in and found out she had broken the window and escaped," he explained. This can't be happening. Not her. I had high hopes for her. The head servant rushed in and bowed her head. "My lord, the family crest has been stolen!" She announced. Did I fall into the wrong hands again? As usual, something of value is stolen, and then next, the culprit disappears. I grunted and stomped out of the courtyard, heading to the restroom where she went. Could this be a coincidence? They mysteriously disappear after stealing something. I went into the restroom and looked around. Everything seemed normal except the broken window. I sniffed and perceived the faint scent of Vanilla, which belonged to her and it was only her scent I could perceive. I looked around, trying to find a clue she must have left behind, but found nothing. It was all clean and well planned. I couldn't help my laughter as I faced the elders all waiting for me to speak. "This is a lame plan and surprisingly, it took me this long to notice it," I said and faced the warriors. "Get me my ride. My Luna has been kidn*pped, and I am going to rescue her." I rode my horse with one place in mind. One destination where she could be, if possible, she ran. Izzy was in danger, and if I don't get there as fast as I can, I will lose her. Her scent was gone. It was as if she were completely gone from the earth. I halted the horse and looked around for the sight of any clue, but found none. I drew my brows in concern, knowing it was about to end with no result. Whoever was involved in all these outsmarted me. How could I think they were all running away when it was obvious all the women I ever brought to the pack were kidn*pped? I grunted and shut my eyes, ashamed of myself for my failure. "My lord, there is no single trace of her. What should we do?" The commander of my warriors, who was behind me, asked. I opened my eyes and fixed them on nothing. I wasn't ready to give up yet. I will find Izabela no matter what and make sure the person who dared kidnap her pays with their lives! "We keep going until we find Izabela. No one is leaving and no one would get a rest until she is found," I answered, gritting my teeth. "You heard the Alpha. No one is getting any sleep or leaving this place without finding her!" He ordered the warriors. I looked beside me and noticed my right-hand Beta wasn't with me. He was always with me but I was too concerned about searching for Izabela that I never noticed he wasn't around. "Where is Ethan?" I asked with a firm voice and just when one of the warriors wanted to give an answer, someone suddenly jumped out from the bushes. "My lord!" He yelled, limping towards me. I frowned as he got closer. "Ethan, where have you been? Why are you here?" "My lord, I plead for your mercy. I am nothing but a weakling who couldn't do anything," he answered and went on his knees. "I saw someone dragging the new Luna out of the pack house, and I went after them. I couldn't call the warriors because I was scared of losing her. I followed them, but at a point, I missed my way. I went to search for the Luna again and I found out she was buried…alive." He said with his head bowed. Buried? The world came to a still for a few seconds. "The people involved are the Bracket wolves pack," he further added. I jumped down and ran deep into the forest, following his scent from where he had walked out from. Izzy can't be dead. I finally came to an open space, but there was no one in sight. I noticed a heap of sand, which indicated a hole had been dug and covered. Without wasting a minute, I ran close and began to dig it open. The warriors who were behind me all came to help, and in a matter of minutes, we were able to dig it down. There Izabela was, lying still and breathless…
