CHAPTER ONE
IZABELA'S POV "Please, Derrick, let go of her!" I heard mother's faint voice calling out, but before I could turn to look at her, he pushed me forward and I almost lost my steps. "Don't get me more pissed, Izzy. I swear, I will make you regret this!" His dark, cold, menacing voice sent shivers down my spine. I looked at the man who was my stepfather, and all I felt for him was nothing but hatred and anger. If only I could shred him into pieces, but no, I don't have the power against him. I am just a weakling who doesn't have the power to do anything for herself. He pushed me and I almost lost my step again. "Let go of her!" Mother's voice echoed in the empty hallway while running towards us. He flung around and faced her when she got closer, "How long would you keep nurturing this girl? She has done enough already. I am not letting her off." Mother shook her head and tried to step in between us. "She did nothing wrong to you. Please let her go, I beg you!" "She did nothing wrong?" He pointed angrily at me. "I gave her a simple instruction, and she disobeyed me." "That's not true," I answered, wanting to explain why I went to the courtyard, but my explanation was cut short when he turned and slammed my face hard. I fell to the ground and hit my head on the wall behind, causing excruciating agony to flow through me. "You don't speak when I speak, you bastard!" "Please don't…" Mother cried and tried to hold me back, but he pushed her away. I couldn't do anything. I could only watch my stepfather maltreat me and my mother badly, like a weakling. I bit my lower lip and allowed my tears to flow down my cheek. That's all I do. Cry and let my heart carry the pain of my pitiful life. "Please, I will do anything you want me to do. Just let go of her," Mother pleaded again, getting back to her feet. She joined her hands together and walked closer to him. "Anything, just let go of her, please." He stared at her for a few minutes before he averted his gaze back to me. "You have been spared again, but this would be the last time I will be merciful." He grabbed my mother's arm and dragged her away. "Mother," I called and tried to go after them, but I fell back, feeling the excruciating pain in my head due to the hit. "Please, don't hurt her," I cried and lowered my head. It's been years. Eight years since I watched my father die. It happened so fast, and in the next month after his death, Derrick appeared and forced my mother to marry him. That was the worst mistake that ever happened to us. He became the worst mistake to us. Life became a living nightmare for me and my mother. Derrick ruled over us and we had since accepted our fate! I drew my knees to my chest and rested my head, drowning in sorrows, knowing what my mother would have to pass through for my vindication. I had no idea how long I stayed in that position but I jolted up when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Miss Izabela, it's time for the hunt. The Alpha instructed that you go with us," the young lady informed. I nodded and wiped my tears. I had no choice but to do as he says. I stood up and cleaned up my dress. The moon was out, which means the hunt would be good. … The sound of a howl brought me to a halt. That was a signal to tell us that a member of our hunting group had caught a game. We were five in number but got separated, leaving just me and a red-haired girl, whom I had never seen in the pack before. Not that I am ever allowed out. The howl came again, and I realized something wasn't right. I drew my brows together, trying to figure it out. "Why are you standing there? We should get going and don't take us back, you weakling," she said with disdain lacing her voice. She rolled her eyes and went on, "I don't know why I am stuck with a weakling like you. Just because you are Derrick's daughter doesn't mean you are anything." I bit my lower lip, not able to mutter a word. I lacked the words because I knew what she said was true. I made to leave but halted when I heard the howl again. It wasn't a signal but a cry of distress. "Something is not right," I muttered. "Stop mumbling to yourself, and let's go hunt. Don't make me miss out today!" She growled. "Some…something is not right," I repeated. "That wolf… something is wrong with it." She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms below her bosom. "That is not your business. Your business is to carry the game after I hunt it down," she answered, and her eyes flashed gold. "Don't make me repeat myself, weakling!" Suddenly, the atmosphere became chilly, and a strong smell of wolf bane filled the air. Before I could alert her, five werewolf warriors came out of their hiding place and surrounded us. It happened so quickly and unexpectedly that we were both taken aback by their appearance. "Capture them," the leader ordered. Before I could get ready to defend myself, I suddenly felt suffocated. I tried to breathe but couldn't. It felt as if I was locked up in a tight box with no way of escape. I tried to keep my eyes open and my balance still, but I couldn't. I lost my strength, and my legs gave way to weakness, and pulled me down to the ground. 'Is this the end for me?' My sight was blurry, and I couldn't see the face of the werewolf approaching me. "We have her. Now, let's take this precious gift back to Alpha Nicolas. He will be pleased." Alpha Nicolas? Did I hear right? Why are they taking me to the Alpha King?
